Bruce Springsteen shares emotional reaction to 'touching' portrayal of his dad in biopic

This fall, Bruce Springsteen will be treated to a singular honor – watching his life story on the big screen. "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere," which arrives in theaters this October, will chronicle the rock icon's rise to fame, and early buzz for the film is coming from the subject himself. In an interview with The Times that published Saturday, June 21, Springsteen revealed that watching "Adolescence" star Stephen Graham portray his late father, Douglas Springsteen, has been emotional. It's "a little otherworldly, and also quite touching," the singer said of the experience. Springsteen's father, who is as much a foe in his musical canon as he is a muse, lies at the heart of some of the more difficult scenes in the movie. "There's some unusualness to it because the movie involves, in some ways, some of the most painful days of my life," Springsteen recently told Rolling Stone, revealing that while he visited the set when needed, he tried to stay away to give the actors a wide berth. "If there was a scene coming up that was sometimes really deeply personal, I wanted the actors to feel completely free, and I didn't want to get in the way, and so I would just stay at home," he told the outlet of the moments meant to recreate his childhood. Springsteen, whose working-class iconography has made him a prophet of the everyday American experience, opened up in the latter half of his career about how much of his image is based on his father. The two shared a fraught relationship, which will no doubt take center stage in the movie. "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White will portray the famous rocker and do his own singing – a new trend for biopics, bolstered by recent performances from Austin Butler in "Elvis" and Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown." When does the Bruce Springsteen biopic come out? "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere" will hit theaters Oct. 24, 2025.

Star-packed, Covid-shaped 'Death Stranding 2' drops this week

Japanese video game legend Hideo Kojima releases "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach" this week, a star-studded PlayStation sequel inspired by the Covid pandemic. Kojima has said the follow-up to the meditative 2019 game, in which "Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus played post-apocalyptic deliveryman Sam Porter Bridges, is "about connection". "The social situation was that everyone was divided" when development began on "Death Stranding" in 2016, Kojima said as he presented the new instalment at Los Angeles' Summer Game Fest on June 8. "I said, let's get connected. Right after that, we had the pandemic, and my fiction became a little reality" as people communed over new digital channels, he added. "Death Stranding 2", which drops Thursday, reflects Kojima's hope that people will rediscover analogue ways of being together following the years of isolation, he said. The first "Death Stranding" was a hybrid between a hiking simulator and a classic action game. It was set in a gloomy, fantastical science-fiction universe where characters are aged by the rain and carry foetuses that warn them of dangerous ghostly creatures nearby. Reedus's character Bridges had the job of reconnecting the last outposts of civilisation in a devastated United States following a disaster. This time Bridges's adventures will bring him to Mexico and Australia, in a story that 61-year-old Kojima -- creator of the equally fantastical "Metal Gear" stealth action saga -- said was completely rewritten in light of Covid-19. "I already had the DS2 idea but I had to scratch that off because I experienced the pandemic. So I rewrote," he said. "It's a new connection... I put that in the game system and I want everyone to experience that," Kojima added. French actor Lea Seydoux -- a star of films like James Bond adventure "No Time to Die" or Quentin Tarantino's World War II romp "Inglourious Basterds" -- returns in 3D form alongside Reedus. But new big-name talent is also along for the ride, including American actor Elle Fanning and the likeness of "Mad Max" director George Miller. French singer Woodkid composed the score for the new episode. Kojima Productions, the eponymous studio the developer founded in 2015 after leaving Japanese giant Konami, said in March this year that the first "Death Stranding" had more than 20 million players. And the franchise is broadening out to other media, with a feature film in development with American studio A24 as well as an animated film. Kojima is already turning his bottomless energy to other projects, including a horror game, "OD", co-written with American director Jordan Peele ("Get Out", "Nope") and developed in partnership with Microsoft. He is also returning to the world of spy games in the vein of "Metal Gear" with a new espionage title, "PHYSINT". kf/tgb/lth

Zimmerman Is An It-Girl's Bohemian Holiday Dream — These Are The Best 12 Pieces To Wear Now

It's no secret that Australian brand Zimmermann has holiday dressing sussed. Founded by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann in 1991, the label has put easy, breezy bohemian dresses high on our packing lists ever since. Zimmermann's signature louche silhouettes, evocative cutouts and, perhaps most pointedly, its dreamy prints have made it the resort wear brand of choice for It-girls world over. You need to look no further to understand the brand's universal allure than a recent trip to Mykonos, where a set of global stars descended on the Greek island to toast the latest Zimmermann collection. Among those notable names wearing the brand from top-to-toe was Laura Harrier. 'Zimmermann just gets the fantasy of vacation,' the American actor tells ELLE UK. 'The pieces are feminine, elevated, and light enough to toss in a suitcase but still make you feel like the main character wherever you are.' 'Pack things that move,' Harrier says on the topic of packing like a pro. 'Anything that flows, flutters, or catches the light a little. Those are the pieces that make the moment feel cinematic.' She's right. Zimmermann's signature aesthetic comes most alive when worn in roomy silhouettes, whether silk chiffon evening dresses or sweet cotton two sets for the day. What's best about curating a holiday wardrobe from Zimmermann is the consistency of its collections, which means you can just continue to add and build your wardrobe like you do your holiday memories. Even if the brand's signature bohemian elegance isn't your usual thing, it's hard not to fall for it or consider it the ultimate switch off. Trying on a new guise is an easy way to side step out of your usual life and into something all the more relaxed. If this is the summer you signal your first foray into the world of Zimmermann then here's where to begin. Laura's favourite? 'A floor-length black dress I wore one night —sleeveless, super fluid, and it felt very Grecian goddess. The silhouette was so simple but powerful, and the way it moved in the wind by the water… it was giving drama without trying too hard. Definitely my favourite moment.' Freelancer
