Ambrosio Lifts Walleye To Narrow Victory Over Everblades
If the Kansas City Mavericks hope to make a second consecutive appearance in the Kelly Cup Final, they will have to get up off the deck to do it.
Colby Ambrosio tallied the game-winner in the third period to give Toledo a 4-3 victory at Cable Dahmer Arena. The Walleye now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.
As opposed to the 2-0 score in Game 1, Saturday's contest was an offensively-heavy and high-scoring matchup.
The Walleye got on the board just 1:49 into the first period as Mitch Lewandowski lit the lamp off a rebound in front of the net. Nolan Moyle and Carson Bantle assisted the game-opening goal.
The Fish kept it going with another goal just over two minutes later at 4:07. Jalen Smereck shot the puck from the blue line and it went past Mavericks goaltender Jack LaFontaine. Moyle got the sole assist with his second of the night.
However, the Mavericks answered right back with two goals of their own. Charlie Wright ripped home a goal at 7:34, and Max Andreev tied it at 12:15 off a setup from Cam Morrison and Cade Borchardt for a 2-2 score.
Just 1:18 later, the Walleye would respond as Trenton Bliss put in a shot from a Smereck feed to restore the Walleye lead to 3-2 heading into the second.
Despite a goal-filled first period, the game settled down afterward. The Mavericks scored the only goal of the second, tying the game at 3-3 early in the frame. Casey Carreau found the net off assists from Morrison and Andreev.
The score stayed tied through the remainder of the second, setting up for a big third period. Toledo got back to their game, putting heavy pressure on the KC defense and was desperate to take back their lead.
The Walleye pressed in the offensive zone, and it paid off at 6:12 when Ambrosio wound up and patiently waited for the puck. After a setup from Brandon Kruse and Matt Anderson, Ambrosio buried a one-timer to restore Toledo's lead.
The goal stood as the game-winner, thanks to a strong defensive effort and performance from Carter Gylander, who stopped 24 shots. LaFontaine made 25 saves in the loss.
Despite the negative outcome, Kansas City's special teams were effective, going 2-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Game 3 is Tuesday night as the series switches to Toledo for the next three games. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 Pm ET.

How to watch Seattle Sounders vs Paris Saint-Germain: TV channel and live stream for Club World Cup today
Paris Saint-Germain will close out their Club World Cup group stage campaign today, meeting the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. The Parisiens have had mixed fortunes in the United States, producing a formidable 4-0 win over ten-man Atletico Madrid in their opener before falling to a frustrated 1-0 loss to Botafogo. Advertisement Igor Jesus, reportedly set to join Nottingham Forest this summer, was the goalscorer in the Botafogo defeat. Luis Enrique, though, highlighted the efforts of their back-line as a defining factor in the result. 'Botafogo was the team that defended us best all season, obviously in our League and in the Champions League,' he said. 'They made a low block from the start and were very efficient, united. We didn't generate as many chances as usual.' The champions of Europe could not muster a response to his first-half strike, failing to convert any of their 16 shots, 10 corners, and 75% possession. Despite enjoying home pitch advantage for much of the competition, Seattle sit bottom of Group B with zero points. They are not yet eliminated, though, thanks to the middling fortunes of Atletico and PSG, and could still qualify with a win. Advertisement Goal difference is not an issue, either, as any win would see them surpass Atletico's tally of -2. How to watch Seattle Sounders vs PSG Live stream: Viewers can watch the action live online via the DAZN website. Kick-off is at 8pm this evening. DAZN is the global broadcaster of the new-look Club World Cup. No subscription is required to watch the game, with the entire tournament available to their 'Freemium' members, which means you only need to sign up for a free DAZN account. Steelers hint at new Terrible Towel, special announcement coming next week
Steelers fans may soon get a glimpse at the 50th anniversary edition of the Terrible Towel — as a special announcement is coming next week. The official Steelers Pro Shop teased that a reveal is coming, posting an image on social media of what appears to be a close-up of the 50th anniversary 2025 Terrible Towel. Back in May, Steelers President Art Rooney II claimed a new throwback jersey was set to be revealed in July, and also hinted at a 'little celebration' for the 50th anniversary of the Terrible Towel. Advertisement The Steelers debuted the Terrible Towel on December 27, 1975, in a playoff matchup against the Baltimore Colts, and it has since become a larger-than-life symbol of Pittsburgh sports — evident by its journeys to unbelievable locations such as Mt. Everest and space. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. Bills Praised For 'Home Run' Offseason
Bills Praised For 'Home Run' Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When it comes to assessing the Buffalo Bills' offseason, most gravitate to the things they haven't done - like extend James Cook. Advertisement However, it is worth noting that the franchise has done a great deal of good over the past couple of months, both by signing key free agents and by re-signing their young talent. Yes, we get it with Cook, but we also can't overlook how this roster is constructed and that a lot of young, promising talent have seen their futures be pledged to Buffalo. For SI's Matt Verderame, in his good, bad, and ugly from the 2025 offseason, Beane's ability to get most key players re-signed is definitely a positive. "This offseason, general manager Brandon Beane extended a slew of his younger, homegrown players, including corner Christian Benford, receiver Khalil Shakir, linebacker Terrel Bernard and edge rusher Gregory Rousseau," Verderame writes. "There's not a single Pro Bowl or All-Pro nod between the quartet, but each is a rising star at his position and Beane got them all on good deals. Advertisement "The only remaining question in this realm is running back James Cook, who has a year left on his rookie deal. Cook led the league with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 but is still slated for free agency. If Cook re-signs at some point, that's another home run for Beane and the Bills." © Tina MacIntyre-Yee/Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images With a host of key players now locked away, the Bills can look forward to what they hope will be a 2025 season that ends in Josh Allen hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Yes, Cook and his contract saga have taken the edge off what has been a fruitful offseason, but there have been good strides made elsewhere with the roster. Advertisement None of the contract extensions were ridiculous in terms of money, so the Bills will be in a good spot, salary cap-wise, down the line. But while those deals were "home runs," there is still one more that must be done. Somehow, someway, figure out a deal for Mr. Cook, and this 2025 would have been as close to perfect for Buffalo as you can get.
