Sources: Why Knicks remain in pursuit of Jason Kidd amid Mavericks contract talks
The post Sources: Why Knicks remain in pursuit of Jason Kidd amid Mavericks contract talks appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks' head coaching search goes on. The team reportedly had interviews scheduled for this week with former NBA head coaches Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown. They're also still in pursuit of Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. What's the latest in their process of finding a coach? Advertisement The Knicks' front office, led by team president Leon Rose, continues to leverage their relationships throughout this search. The team is still gathering information on various candidates. Targets like Kidd and Jenkins have indeed emerged as 'early favorites.' Typically, however, New York performs its organizational due diligence. Here, that means continuing to collect intelligence on top candidates from all over their list as they wait on Kidd and the Mavericks. Some of those coaches have experience at the NBA level, like Kidd himself and Jenkins. Sources familiar with the situation tell ClutchPoints the Knicks are also still looking into, and organizing thoughts on, candidates who coach at the collegiate level. With regard to Kidd and the team's steady interest in him as their potential next head coach, the Mavericks' rejection of the Knicks' request to interview Kidd didn't stop the chase. The 'mutual interest' reported to exist between Kidd and the Knicks was a sign that it wouldn't. Advertisement New York is helping other teams' head coaches get paid by showing public interest in hiring them away. The Chicago Bulls and Billy Donovan agreed to an extension and raise soon after the Knicks requested to interview him. On Thursday, the Houston Rockets and head coach Ime Udoka agreed to a contract extension, too, after being in the same situation. Until Kidd and the Mavericks either reach an agreement on an extension and raise or agree to leave their contract as-is, the proverbial door technically remains open. Sources tell ClutchPoints the Knicks will pursue Kidd until that door is firmly shut. If Kidd and the Mavericks make a final decision to continue their partnership, the Knicks will need to move on. They won't have to conduct much of a 'pivot,' though. They will need to break down and continue to supplement the information they've gathered on other top candidates. NBA team owner Mark Cuban reveals he rejected stunning offer from Kamala Harris ahead of election loss to Trump
NBA team minority owner Mark Cuban has revealed that Kamala Harris ' ticket for last November's election could have looked very different. The former Shark Tank personality, who owns a 27 percent stake in the Dallas Mavericks, has shared that the former Vice President had reached out to him amid last year's Race to the White House. The 66-year-old claimed that Harris' team had asked him to submit vetting materials to be considered for her running mate in the 2024 campaign. But Cuban, despite being outspoken in his opposition of Donald Trump, surprisingly turned the Democratic hopeful down. The Bulwark's Tim Miller quizzed Cuban on the rumor Thursday, asking: 'Somebody I kind of trust said that they asked you to send in VP vetting papers and you said, "No, the list would be too long." Is that true?' Cuban, who campaigned for Harris, admitted that it was before going on to explain why he passed over the offer. Talked to @mcuban for tomorrow's pod and he tells me he declined an offer to be vetted for Kamala VP. What might have been! We also discuss the fallout of his decision to sell the Mavs but gotta wait til tomorrow for that. — Tim Miller (@Timodc) June 20, 2025 'The second part of that, my response was I'm not very good as the number two person. And so if the last thing we need is me telling Kamala, you know, the president that, no, that's a dumb idea. Right. And I'm not real good at the shaking hands and kissing babies,' Cuban added. Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate but was defeated at the ballot box by Trump and Vice President JD Vance. 'I mean, obviously it would have been different,' Cuban added. 'My personality is completely different than Tim's. My experiences, my backgrounds are completely different. 'I think I've cut through the s*** more directly. I'm not a politician. And so it would have been different, but it would have been awful,' Cuban joked, 'She would have fired me within six days.' 'It would have been better than the present situation, you know?' Miller retorted. 'Well, yes, that's true. But, you know, I really thought she was going to win,' Cuban replied. Cuban hit out at Trump in the build up to last year's election, taking aim at the president's golf game in an email to 'I can out drive him by 100 yards,' the 66-year-old Cuban wrote of the 78-year-old Trump in an email to It came after Trump had bizarrely claimed that Cuban has 'really low clubhead speed' and is 'a total non-athlete.' Typically Cuban has attacked Trump's business acumen, understanding of tariffs, and his failure to hold his 2016 campaign promise of building a border wall and making Mexico pay for it. 'This man has so little understanding of tariffs, he thinks that China pays for that. This is the same guy who also thought that Mexico would pay for the wall,' Cuban told an audience in the battleground state of Wisconsin. 'Did Mexico pay for that wall?,' Cuban asked the crowd, who responded, 'no.' In addition to his bitter tiff with the president over their golf games last October, Cuban has been highly critical of Trump. The entrepreneur campaigned for Harris in the buildup to her ultimate defeat at the ballot box last November and took aim at Trump's inner circle. 'Donald Trump – you never see him around strong, intelligent women, ever. It's just that simple,' Cuban said on The View last November. 'It's just that simple. They're intimidating to him. He doesn't like to be challenged by them,' Cuban added. Trump's national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the comments were 'extremely insulting to the thousands of women who work for President Trump, and the tens of millions of women who are proudly voting for him.' Cuban later apologized, saying he 'didn't get it out exactly the way I thought I did.' In August of last year, the wealthy 'shark' made it clear that his support had shifted from Trump to Harris after 'he got to know him,' according to Business Insider. 'I actually started off supporting Donald, and then I got to know him better,' Cuban told Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, during an interview last year. 'I was like, he's great - he's not a typical Stepford candidate. I thought that was a positive,' he added. 'But then I got to know him.' However, he was one of the first members of Camp Kamala to publicly concede defeat on election night, sending a message of congratulations to Trump The businessman sold a majority ownership of the Mavericks for $3.5 billion to the Adelson family in December 2023. Cuban still holds a 27 percent stake in the team.

Potential Celtics-Mavericks Trade Emerges After Cooper Flagg News
Potential Celtics-Mavericks Trade Emerges After Cooper Flagg News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After getting the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, it would be the twist of the century if the Dallas Mavericks don't end up with Cooper Flagg. Based on the Mavericks' most recent meeting with Flagg, as reported by Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, it doesn't appear as though they'll make any surprises. Advertisement "Flagg had dinner Tuesday night... with several Mavericks officials," they wrote. "General manager Nico Harrison and coach Jason Kidd essentially served as co-chairs of a welcoming committee that also included new team CEO Rick Welts and former Mavericks All-Star-turned-assistant GM Michael Finley... By this time next week, Flagg will officially be a Maverick." Flagg will be added to a team that will have Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis at full strength. That alone restores hope that the Mavericks will be a contender again after the Luka Doncic trade. However, Flagg may not only help form a contender in Dallas, but also might form a defensive juggernaut with the Mavericks. Just one day after the news of Flagg's meeting in Dallas, The Athletic's Christian Clark and Jay King reported on the Boston Celtics potentially trading Jrue Holiday to the Mavericks. Advertisement "As I have dug into the trade market for Holiday, league sources have pointed to the Mavericks as one potential fit," King began. He added, "Even at Holiday's age, I'm not sure any guard has more defensive versatility," King wrote. "Good luck scoring against lineups with Anthony Davis, Flagg and Holiday. (Yes, I'm putting Flagg in that group already. He will walk into the NBA as a top-shelf defender)." Former Duke forward Cooper Flagg at the 2025 NBA Draft Banks-Imagn Image The last piece of a potential trade will be what the Mavericks trade for Holiday. Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington are candidates, but the Celtics want to save money, so they may have to re-route one of them elsewhere. Advertisement For now, it's clear Flagg is Dallas-bound. The question remaining, is who will meet him there? Mavericks Projected to Pair Star Free Agent With Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Dallas Mavericks have gone through a rollercoaster of a year. After trading generational superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of this year's NBA trade deadline, a lot more has happened. Nico Harrison heard his name in "Fire Nico" chants throughout the remainder of the season after the Doncic deal, but the Mavericks were given some major luck. In the NBA Draft lottery, they landed the No. 1 overall pick despite having just a 1.8 percent chance of doing so. With that pick, Dallas is expected to bring in another potential generational star in Duke Blue Devils phenom Cooper Flagg. Those three players would quickly put Dallas back on the map as a team to watch. It has been reported that the Mavericks would like to target a point guard. Keeping that in mind, a new projection has been made that would see Dallas add a longtime star point guard to play alongside Irving, Flagg, and Davis. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report has projected that the Mavericks will end up being the team that signs Chris Paul this offseason in NBA free agency. "Prediction: The Dallas Mavericks, who need a replacement guard until Kyrie Irving is healthy, use the TMLE on Paul," Pincus wrote. Paul would be an intriguing pickup for Dallas. Whether he would be a starter or play key minutes off the bench remains to be seen. He averaged 8.8 points per game to go along with 7.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals, while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 37.7 percent of his three-point attempts. At 40 years old, Paul would bring great experience to the court. His impact on the court would also be valuable to a team looking to turn around and quickly be a championship contender again after trading Doncic away. There will be plenty of teams around the NBA with interest in signing Paul. However, the Mavericks make a lot of sense as a potential suitor. Camilla Buchanan: Mavericks not weighed down by the past
London Mavericks head coach Camilla Buchanan believes breaking free from the shackles of the past has helped her side reach this season's play-offs. The franchise finished in the top four for the first time since 2016 and Buchanan feels the fresh rebrand under new ownership has meant her squad have not felt the unwanted hand of history on their shoulders this term. Mavericks had finished fifth in five of the last six completed seasons, with the franchise becoming the perennial nearly side to many, but Buchanan insists her youthful squad had no time to be burdened by what went before them en route to securing an historic fourth-place finish this term. 'It has been a completely new journey,' she said. "While it is still Mavericks, it has felt completely brand new at times. I don't think this group feels the weight of what was. 'That reflects in the nature of the squad; we are a really young squad that is still building. 'It is an achievement, but it is just the first step, and we don't want to stop there. You have to take stock of the small wins, but by no means are we done.' The new ownership and rebrand has gone beyond just a shiny new name, logo, and colour scheme for the two-time Netball Super League champions. Buchanan's side have been well-backed in their pursuit of the play-offs, with a wide-ranging support staff complementing the work of Buchanan, Mikki Austin, and Tamsin Greenway. That also extends beyond training sessions, which now almost exclusively take place during the day and end with group meals. 'Eating together after training is one of the highlights of the day,' added Buchanan. 'It is all integrated with the back office staff, everyone is sitting and enjoying food together. 'It sounds like a Brady Bunch moment, but it really matters. You can see that in the squad this year, they are a really tight knit group – one of the tightest groups I've ever been involved with. 'The players are really well looked after, and I think that shows in what they give back to the club.
