Phone tapping: Mahesh Goud to appear as witness today
Hyderabad: PCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud is set to appear as a witness in the ongoing probe into the 'phone tapping' case. The Jubilee Hills ACP will be recording his statement on Tuesday.
Mahesh Kumar Goud, who was serving as PCC working president during the November 2023 Assembly polls, was one of victims. His phone was allegedly tapped during the previous government's tenure, besides that of scores of other opposition leaders.
Following police summons, the PCC chief has been asked to participate in the inquiry and provide his statement as part of the legal proceedings. He will be examined as a witness in connection with the case, which is being probed to uncover the extent of surveillance allegedly carried by the KCR regime.

Telangana cabinet to finalise reply to Ghose panel on KLIS and other key issues
HYDERABAD: The state cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday will deliberate on the information to be provided to the PC Ghose Commission, which has requested details of cabinet approvals by the previous govt for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The commission, currently investigating the sinking of piers at Medigadda and the damage to the Annaram and Sundilla barrages under KLIS, has cross-examined former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former ministers T Harish Rao and Eatala Rajender. Following their depositions, the commission is understood to have written to the govt seeking further details. KCR , Harish Rao, and Eatala reportedly informed the commission that the project was undertaken with cabinet approval. However, Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who served during the first term of the previous BRS govt, claimed that many decisions were made solely by KCR. "The chief minister's office has responded to the Ghose Commission stating that the requested information will be submitted by June 30. The matter will be discussed at the cabinet meeting on June 23," sources in the CMO said. Faridabad: Missing woman was killed in sleep by father-in-law over family feud
The 25-year-old woman whose body was found buried in a soak-pit in front of her in-laws' house in Faridabad's Roshan Nagar on Friday, was strangled to death by her father-in-law while she was asleep on April 21, police said on Saturday. Bhoop Singh, 54, was arrested late on Friday, produced before a city court on Saturday, and taken on a two-day police custody. Tannu Rajput was killed two months ago and buried in a pit outside her in-laws' house, who then told everyone that she had eloped. (HT Photo) During interrogation, Singh told police that family feud was the primary reason behind the murder and he entered Tannu Rajput's room on the night of April 21 when she had fallen asleep. He strangled her to death with her scarf. The deceased's husband Arun Singh, 28, registered a missing person's case at Palla police station on April 24. It is yet not clear if the husband or the other in-laws knew about the crime or were involved. 'We suspect that there might be some other factor too which he is trying to hide,' assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Rajesh Lohan said, adding that Singh, his daughter, and Rajput were present in the house at the time of the crime. Singh runs a tailor shop inside the four-storey house and kept misguiding the police during interrogation in the past months as whenever called, he would reach the Palla police station for 'help and cooperation' to trace her 'missing' daughter-in-law, the ACP said. 'Arun Singh, a private firm employee, was on night duty like other days while his mother was out of town to attend a wedding. The deceased's sister-in-law had gone to sleep on the ground floor while she was sleeping in her bedroom on the first-floor,' Lohan added. After the murder, Singh said he dragged Rajput's body downstairs and dumped it into the soak-pit dug right in front of the entrance and covered it with sand late in the night. Next morning, he filled it further with bricks and roped in a mason to get it cemented. He later told the family members that she had probably eloped as the main gate was open when he woke up on April 22. Police said the pit was dug for sewer connection a couple of days before the murder. After some days, Rajput's family approached Faridabad police and urged them to quiz the father-in-law for clues to know her whereabouts as they suspected foul play. On Friday, police again called the suspect for questioning, when he finally told them about the incident. Police said Rajput's husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law may also be arrested if their involvement surfaces after further investigation. The missing person's case has been transformed into a murder case by invoking sections 103(1) (murder), 3(5) (common intention) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Rajput's husband and other members of the Singh family, police said.

HP High Court Raps HPU for withholding Associate Professor's Salary
Shimla, Jun 21 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court has pulled up Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) for withholding the salary of an Associate Professor for over two years, despite his promotion under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). Justice Sandeep Sharma, while allowing a civil writ petition filed by Dr. Bhawani Singh, directed HPU to release the pending salary within six weeks. Dr. Singh, appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2016 in the Department of Hindi, was promoted to Associate Professor on September 9, 2022, under UGC norms. The promotion was approved by the university's Executive Council through an office order dated July 4, 2023. However, HPU withheld the salary, citing lack of approval from the state government. The court noted that Dr. Singh was working in the higher post but denied its pay scale. 'The petitioner, who admittedly at present is working against the higher post, is being denied salary of the higher post,' the order stated, terming the university's conduct as 'bad in law' and 'unjustified.' HPU's repeated attempts to seek approval from the Finance Department were blocked, as the department claimed that the Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme ceased with the introduction of the Himachal Pradesh Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2022. However, the court rejected this reasoning, asserting that UGC regulations, having statutory force, must prevail over state policies in such matters. Citing Supreme Court rulings in Gambhirdan K. Gadhvi v. State of Gujarat and Prof. (Dr.) Sreejith P.S v. Dr. Rajshree M.S, the court emphasized that UGC norms are binding on state universities. 'UGC Regulations should become part of the statute framed by Parliament and, therefore, shall prevail,' Justice Sharma said. The court ruled that state government approval was not a precondition for releasing the salary. Failure to comply with the order within six weeks will entitle Dr. Singh to interest at 6% per annum on the delayed payment. Senior Advocate Sanjeev Bhushan, assisted by L.S.
