It marks a happier public image for the party following reports about internal strife among the grassroots.
Last week this newspaper reported complaints that the leadership of the DUP 'had stopped listening' in the wake of the recent defeat of Communities Minister Gordon Lyons for the position of party secretary at its annual general meeting.
It was also reported that councillors in the party are at loggerheads with the leadership whom they accuse of 'disrespecting them' and denying them their 'democratic voice', adding that there may be a 'grassroots uprising' if the upper echelons don't pay heed to their views.

Spiking to become an offence in Northern Ireland as part of new UK-wide crime reforms
The move forms part of a series of legislative consent motions introduced in the Northern Ireland Assembly on Monday, which will see a range of provisions in the UK Government's Crime and Policing Bill extended to Northern Ireland. Confirming the decision, Ms Long said: 'Spiking is a despicable act that leaves victims feeling violated, vulnerable and confused. Whilst spiking can happen to anyone, it is predominately an attack against women and girls, and one which often goes unreported. 'I hope by making spiking an offence, it provides additional reassurance and protections to women and girls and will give victims the courage to report attacks to the PSNI.' The Crime and Policing Bill, introduced at Westminster in February, is designed to help deliver the UK Government's Safer Streets Mission — which aims to halve knife crime and violence against women and girls over the next decade and boost public confidence in the criminal justice system. As well as creating a specific offence of spiking, other provisions being extended to Northern Ireland include the offence of cuckooing. Cuckooing is a crime where a criminal, or criminal gangs, exploit vulnerable people. The most common form of cuckooing is where drug dealers take control of the victim's home and use the premises to store, prepare or distribute drugs often as part of county lines networks. News Catch Up - Monday 23rd June An updated offence of possessing material on how to create child sexual abuse images, strengthened requirements for sex offender notification, an offence of encouraging or assisting serious self-harm and new offences relating to the use of electronic devices in vehicle theft are also included as new provisions. Reforms to the confiscation of criminal proceeds Proceeds of civil recovery including costs and expenses and the implementation of international law enforcement information-sharing agreements are also included. Separately, a second legislative consent motion was introduced for four measures in the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, also being extended to Northern Ireland. These include: supply of trailer registration information, two offences concerning articles for use in serious crime, an offence for breaching an Interim Serious Crime Prevention Order. A fourth measure — relating to the validation of qualification fees — falls under the remit of the Department for the Economy. The Justice Minister added: 'It is, of course, my preference to legislate for devolved matters through the Assembly. However, the extension of the provisions will ensure consistency across the UK in tackling certain types of criminality and provide important safeguards for victims.' The Crime and Policing Bill includes a combination of reserved and excepted matters, some of which apply directly to Northern Ireland, while others require Assembly approval through legislative consent motions.

DUP MLA hits out at ‘sectarian' vandalism of Orange Arch in Newtownabbey
Photographs of the damage show the poles attached to the arch covered in green spray paint. North Belfast politician Phillip Brett condemned the latest attack on the arch alongside local business properties. Mr Brett said: "Sadly, this is far from the first occasion in which the Glengormley Arch has been vandalised over recent years with sectarian graffiti. "The latest incident is not only an attack on the right to cultural expression but an attack on our entire community with town centre premises also vandalised yet again. 'These cowardly acts do nothing but stoke tension and they have no place in our society. I have spoken with the PSNI and urged them to take swift action against a tiny minority who have been seeking to provoke, intimidate and divide our communities. 'I want to commend the members of Carnmoney District LOL No. 25 who have engaged positively with the local community and public bodies to ensure the 12th July period is celebrated with tolerance and respect as they prepare to host the East Antrim Combine Demonstration this year in Glengormley." News Catch Up - Monday 23rd June In 2022, unionists welcomed permission being granted to erect the arch, which has been considered controversial in the past. Carnmoney District LOL 25 had applied to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to erect the arch on the Antrim Road in time for the area's mini-Twelfth parade.
