Treading slowly out of their Airbnb on to the heavily-policed street, the O'Brien family turned to inspect the aftermath of the appalling events the evening before.
Behind the tangled cordon, empty beer bottles and takeaway boxes were strewn across the deserted road. In the distance, a forensic officer checked the road surface for evidence.
For the sombre-looking family-of-four, it was like waking up from a violent nightmare, hoping it was just a dream. But it wasn't.
Less than 24 hours earlier, the group were among thousands of joyous Liverpool fans packed into the street for their team's Premier League-winning parade.

Liverpool fan Alex Todd, who runs Liverpool FC fan account 'Don Kopleone' on X, told The Independent about the horrifying scenes in the immediate aftermath of Monday's incident.
He was part of a crowd which surged into a nearby Hooters bar as the car plowed through the celebrating fans just metres away.
'Suddenly, I heard lots of shouting, felt a surge push me and tens of others into the bar, while one guy who had been standing next to me turned and sprinted in the other direction towards what I would later learn was the car,' Mr Todd said.
As soon as he heard about the car, Mr Todd said he was 'panicking' about his little sister who had got caught up in the crowd a few metres behind him.
'I saw her falling through a crowd into the bar about twenty seconds later and she burst into tears immediately, the car had only been a few metres away from her,' he added. 'I texted family group chats immediately to let people know there had been some kind of incident but for the moment we were together and safe.'
The bar went under lockdown for the next hour, the 25-year-old said, before they were let out through the back doors 'quite shaken up but thankfully all safe'.

Natasha Rinaldi, 31, was watching the parade from her friend's flat on Water Street, Liverpool, when she heard 'desperate screams' from below.
'We rushed over to the window and saw injured people all over the floor,' she told The Independent .
'We heard so many screams. I will never forget seeing a woman stuck under the car. It was so distressing. She was the last person to be rescued.'
Ms Rinaldi, a Liverpool FC fan for 12 years, said the collision, which injured 47 people including four children, had 'destroyed' what was supposed to be a 'very happy day'.
She said: 'It is unbelievable. I had been dreaming of this day for so long. I have followed the club for years and go to the games all the time.
'Everyone was so happy. But after it, everyone was broken. It destroyed what was supposed to be a very happy day.'

Liverpool FC chief executive Billy Hogan thanked the club's supporters who 'helped each other' after a car drove through fans celebrating in the city on Monday.
He said: 'On behalf of all of us here at Liverpool Football Club, I would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts to all those who've been affected by this appalling incident on Water Street yesterday evening.

A Liverpool fan run down at the club's victory parade has described how he 'locked eyes' with the driver and 'pleaded for him to stop' moments before the car ploughed into him.
Jack Trotter, 22, was enjoying celebrating his team's success when he found himself 'face to face' with the Ford Galaxy on Water Street in the city centre on Monday.
He told the PA news agency of the moment before he was struck by the car: 'He had slowed down. And then I put my hands up and pleaded for him to stop, and he wasn't stopping.
'Then he clipped me.' Mr Trotter said the incident was 'very quick'.
'I did lock eyes with him,' he continued. 'People were hitting his car, shouting at him. Everything was very dark. Everything was very blurry. He had ran through me by the time I could get a good look at him.
'When the car had hit me, the adrenaline kicked in, and I didn't really, obviously feel anything. And then once I found my partner, the adrenaline wore off, and then I just collapsed on the wall and said 'Abbie, that's me, I'm gone'.

Weight loss pill shows promise in new trial
A new weight loss medication, which can be offered by injection or tablet, can help patients lose a significant amount weight, studies suggest. An early study have found that people who received higher doses of amycretin as a weekly jab lost 24.3% of their body weight after 36 weeks of treatment. And initial trials assessing a tablet form of the drug also showed promising results, with patients taking daily tablets losing an average of 13.1% of their body weight after 12 weeks. Weight loss jabs have been hailed as transformative by NHS leaders. But injections come with additional work for over-stretched health services so tablet forms of medication may offer a new hope for the millions of people looking to lose weight. It has been estimated that around 1.5 million Britons are having weight loss jabs, which have been either prescribed through specialist weight loss services or private prescriptions. GPs will be able to dish out that jabs from next week. Amycretin, made by Novo Nordisk, helps to control blood sugar and appetite by targeting two specific receptors in the body – GLP-1 and the amylin receptor. An early trial in 125 adults testing weekly injections of amycretin, which has been published in The Lancet, found that those taking the highest dosage (60mg) lost 24.3% after 36 weeks of treatment. It also showed signs in improving blood sugar levels. Side effects included nausea and vomiting and were mostly mild to moderate and resolved by the end of treatment. 'These phase 1b/2a data support the potential of once-weekly subcutaneous amycretin as a therapeutic for people living with overweight or obesity,' the authors wrote. 'Amycretin appeared safe and tolerable, and there were significant reductions in body weight after 36 weeks of treatment.' The second early trial, published in the same journal, assessed amycretin in tablet form in 144 people over 12 weeks. There were mild to moderate side effects including loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Researchers found that people taking the highest dose of 100mg per day, lost 13.1% of their body weight over four months. The authors wrote: 'Amycretin effectively lowered body weight and improved metabolic and glycaemic parameters in people with overweight or obesity. 'Longer studies with more participants are warranted for evaluation of the safety and efficacy of amycretin in individuals living with obesity and type 2 diabetes, and to optimise the dosing regimen.' The studies were also presented at the American Diabetes Association's Scientific Sessions in Chicago, in the US. It comes as a separate study, which was published at the same meeting, examined the effects of weight loss jab Wegovy at higher doses. Researchers found that giving patients 7.2mg of Wegovy, also known as semaglutide, once a week led to an average weight loss of 20.7%, with a third of participants losing 25% or more of their body weight after 72 weeks.

Marc Guehi has been selected as Liverpool's next signing once Jarell Quansah departs for Bayer Leverkusen and it appears that the Crystal Palace star is already a big fan of some of his potential teammates Marc Guehi has hailed Liverpool 's 'fantastic players' including Mohamed Salah ahead of a potential move to Anfield. The Crystal Palace captain has been identified as the Reds' next summer signing once they get deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez over the line. Guehi has been identified as a replacement for academy graduate Jarell Quansah, with the defender set to sign for Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the England defender, with his Crystal Palace deal due to expire in 12 months' time. And while there appears to be some work left to do to get a deal thrashed out, Guehi has already made his feelings very clear on Liverpool. Speaking ahead of taking on the Merseysiders back in 2023, he said: "I don't think there's any good time to play Liverpool, really. Everyone knows how strong they are as a team, they've got some fantastic players." Having hailed Liverpool in general, Guehi also had special praise for one of his potential future teammates way back in 2021. Liverpool newcomer Florian Wirtz motivated to build on Leverkusen achievements
The Premier League champions have paid Bayer Leverkusen £100million for the 22-year-old Germany international but that fee could potentially become a British record as there are £16m of add-ons included. If achieved that would surpass the existing mark of £115m which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023 and it is understood Liverpool will be happy to pay these 'aspirational bonuses' as it will mean they have enjoyed considerable success at elite level. And that is what Wirtz, one of Europe's hottest properties, is determined to contribute to. 'I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve,' he told the club's website. 'Of course I want to keep going at this performance. He wants to continue the progress which saw him score 57 goals and contribute 64 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen. 'This was also a big point for me: that I will improve my own personal level and physical levels because I think everyone knows that in Liverpool the players are machines – really strong and really physical,' he added. 'But I see this also as an opportunity for me to get better in this point. So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me.' Liverpool saw off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to secure Wirtz. Leverkusen had valued him at £126m but a compromise was reached last week, although the up-front fee easily outstrips the £85m deal Liverpool agreed with Benfica in 2022 for Darwin Nunez, who is expected to leave this summer. 'I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me.
