England name squad for India series
London, June 13 (UNI) England have named a 14-member squad for their upcoming T20I series against India, with star spinner Sophie Ecclestone making her much-anticipated return.
Ecclestone, ranked No.1 and No.4 in the ICC Women's ODI & T20I Bowler Rankings respectively, returns following her temporary break from cricket.
The England squad, who are already brimming with confidence after a dominant 3-0 series win over West Indies in the T20I as well as ODI series, will be bostered by her return.
This series marked a successful start to Charlotte Edwards' tenure as head coach and Nat Sciver-Brunt's captaincy.
Pacer Lauren Filer also makes a return to the squad after missing out on the West Indies series last month.
Amy Jones, who has been rising rapidly in the ICC Women's Player Rankings has also been named in the strong unit.
England Squad: Em Arlott, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Paige Scholfield, Linsey Smith, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Issy Wong
Edwards expressed her excitement about the prospect of facing India as well as the return of star spinner Ecclestone.
'There was lots to be happy about in the West Indies series but equally lots of things we want to keep improving on - we're always looking at getting better. Five games against India in front of big crowds at great venues will serve us really well. This is a significant series for us with the countdown well and truly underway towards the home ICC Women's T20 World Cup," Edwards said.
'It's great to have Soph back, and we're looking forward to having her back in the group. She has obvious qualities and she'll be an asset to us," she said.
'It does mean Sarah Glenn misses out, we are blessed with a strong group of spinners and we unfortunately can't play them all. It's now a great opportunity for Sarah to go back to The Blaze and play some competitive cricket in the Vitality Blast,' Edwards added.
Schedule:
1st T20I - 28 June, Trent Bridge
2nd T20I - 1 July, Bristol
3rd T20I - 4 July, The Oval

Yashasvi Jaiswal Is Worst Fielder In Team India, Fans Cannot Keep Clam As India Opener Dropps 3 Catches
The Headingley Test between India and England saw a sublime mix of brilliance and blunders from the visitors. While Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrated his first Test century on English soil, his nightmare in the slip cordon sparked an online frenzy, leaving Indian fans furious and Jasprit Bumrah visibly frustrated. Yashasvi Jaiswal's elegant ton on Day 1 had fans and pundits hailing the young opener as a future great. But by Day 3, the narrative had turned sharply. In a horror fielding display, Jaiswal dropped three crucial catches—each one off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling—handing lifelines to England batters Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook. The trio collectively added over 100 runs after their reprieves, swinging the momentum back in England's favour. This unwanted feat of three dropped catches in a single innings made Jaiswal the first Indian player to do so in five years, according to CricViz stats. Fans on X didn't hold back. "Sharam kar le Yashasvi!" trended across platforms, with users comparing his fielding to Monty Panesar's infamous bloopers. Fielding Failures Haunt India: A 5-Year Low India's overall fielding effort at Headingley was substandard. The team shelled six catching chances, their worst single-innings performance since 2019. What made matters worse was the fact that four of those came off Bumrah, who otherwise bowled a phenomenal spell—claiming 5/83 in 24.4 overs. Even usually safe hands like Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant joined the list of culprits. These lapses allowed England to post 465 and nearly erase India's first-innings advantage, finishing just six runs behind. Jasprit Bumrah: A Lone Warrior with a Big Heart If anyone emerged as India's saving grace, it was Jasprit Bumrah. On an unhelpful surface, Bumrah was relentless—removing Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Josh Tongue with pace and precision. His spell not only rescued India from a potential collapse but also etched his name alongside Kapil Dev for most five-wicket hauls in overseas Tests by an Indian pacer (12). Despite the dropped catches, Bumrah remained remarkably composed. 'Nobody is dropping catches intentionally. They're all trying hard and are still learning. I don't want to put more pressure on them,' he said in the post-day press conference, displaying maturity and leadership. Fans Unforgiving, But Bumrah Extends Support While Jaiswal was roasted online, the Indian vice-captain chose empathy over emotion. Bumrah cited cold conditions and inexperience as possible reasons, urging critics to not judge harshly. His reaction won praise from legends like Sachin Tendulkar, who lauded the pacer for his resilience despite being 'denied a nine-wicket haul.' Even so, the missed opportunities have raised serious fielding concerns. Michael Vaughan, in commentary, remarked, 'India could've led by 150 if they'd held their catches.'

Sourav Ganguly Open To Coaching Team India: A Potential Twist In Indian Cricket's Future?
In a candid revelation that's set the cricketing world abuzz, Sourav Ganguly, one of Indian cricket's most iconic leaders, has admitted that he is open to becoming the next head coach of Team India. During an interview amidst the ongoing ENG vs IND 2025 Test series, Ganguly stated that while he hadn't previously considered the role due to his commitments as BCCI President and IPL administrator, he's now ready to keep the door open. "I'm just 50. Let's see what happens," Ganguly said, signaling a potential return to Team India in a capacity he hasn't taken up yet — that of a coach. With this statement, Ganguly may be closing the loop on a storied cricket career that has already seen him shine as a player, captain, and administrator. A Career Built for Coaching? Despite never donning the official head coach cap, Ganguly's cricketing intellect and leadership credentials remain unmatched. His strategic mind was evident during his tenure as captain, where he famously built a fearless Indian side in the early 2000s. Post-retirement, he served as BCCI President from 2019 to 2022 and is currently the Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, giving him valuable experience in franchise management and talent development. While fans have long speculated about a return in a coaching avatar, Ganguly had dismissed the idea in 2019 citing other priorities. Now, the tide may be shifting — and with Gautam Gambhir's contract running till the 2027 ODI World Cup, Ganguly could emerge as a prime candidate thereafter. Gautam Gambhir's Start: Rocky but Promising Ganguly didn't just stop at his own ambitions — he also offered his take on Gautam Gambhir's early journey as Team India head coach. Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid post the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the transition has been anything but smooth. "He started a little slow, losing to Australia and New Zealand," Ganguly observed. These losses cost India a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship Final — a major early blemish on Gambhir's report card. However, Ganguly balanced criticism with encouragement, noting, 'He picked up with the Champions Trophy, and this England series is going to be a big one for him.' This ongoing England series is pivotal not just for India's performance overseas but also for Gambhir's credibility as head coach. Under Shubman Gill's captaincy, India posted a mammoth 471 in their first innings in Leeds, signaling a potential turnaround in form. Ganguly on Coaching vs Politics: 'I Am Not Interested' Interestingly, while Ganguly showed enthusiasm for a future coaching role, he was clear about not entering politics, despite ongoing speculation, especially in West Bengal. Asked if he would join politics or even consider the Chief Minister's post if offered, Ganguly simply smiled and said: 'I am not interested.' His focus seems firmly on cricket, and more specifically, a future with Team India in a mentorship role. What This Means for Indian Cricket If Ganguly does throw his hat into the coaching ring post-2027, it would mark a return of one of the most visionary cricketing minds India has produced. His ability to nurture young talent, his fearless brand of leadership, and his vast administrative experience make him a compelling candidate. Furthermore, a Ganguly-Gambhir transition could be seamless — the two share mutual respect, and Ganguly's comments reflected that bond. 'He was a great guy when we played together. He had a lot of respect for me and the seniors,' he said of Gambhir.
