CM Fadnavis reviews security, preparedness in Maharashtra
Mumbai: In the backdrop of growing tension between India and Pakistan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday reviewed the overall security and preparedness of the state's police and administrative agencies.
Taking a comprehensive review of all aspects like mock drills, blackouts and other measures, CM Fadnavis, who was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, directed the administration to conduct mock drills in each district, establish war rooms at district levels and set up a coordination mechanism with hospitals during a blackout.
He said that even though lights would be switched off to avoid being targeted, electricity supply could be provided through an alternative system to avoid any inconvenience to the patients.
He also instructed the use of dark-coloured curtains or glasses to prevent light from being seen from the outside.
To convey the importance of blackouts in the present situation, CM Fadnavis directed the administration to distribute videos to students and citizens explaining the dos and don'ts in order to create widespread awareness.
This apart, he asked the administration to study the central government's 'Union War Book' in depth and inform everyone about it.
"Police cyber cells in every district should monitor social media and identify handles that are helping Pakistan and take action against them. If anyone is helping the enemy or spreading false information, take action against them," he said at the meeting.
CM Fadnavis announced that every District Collector will be given an emergency fund on Friday, from which if any urgent material needs to be purchased, it can be done immediately.
Apart from this, if any important proposal comes in this regard, the District Collectors have been asked to approve it within one hour.
He also asked the District Collectors to hold a meeting of all the Municipalities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and ask them to also create awareness about blackouts by involving the cooperative housing societies.
Further, CM Fadnavis categorically said that the police department should be more vigilant than ever. 'Considering the possibility of increasing activities of anti-national individuals, conduct more combing operations and intensify patrols,' he said.
He mentioned that filming military preparation-related activities and broadcasting them on social media was a crime and asked the administration to file a case immediately.
In a bid to further strengthen maritime security, he instructed to hire fishing trawlers as needed.
The CM said that the government should establish a system to provide citizens with up-to-date and accurate information about the situation.
'Considering the possibility of cyber attacks on critical government infrastructure including power generation and distribution, conduct an immediate cyber audit," the CM directed.
He asked the administration to invite the heads of all three military services and the Coast Guard in Mumbai to the next meeting through VC for greater coordination between the government and the security establishment.

1 2 Nagpur: In a major push to reduce pollution in Nag River, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday directed city officials to expedite the construction of two key Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at VNIT and Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV). Fadnavis suggested that both STPs be developed on the lines of the Dharavi model in Mumbai. Fadnavis and Gadkari were holding a review meeting regarding the Nag River Pollution Abatement Project at Hyderabad House on Sunday. The Dharavi model, known for its high-efficiency sewage treatment in minimal space, is now being seen as a blueprint for Nagpur's urban water management challenges. CM Fadnavis specifically recommended that both STPs adopt a compact, high-capacity design similar to the one successfully implemented in Mumbai's Dharavi. Supporting the move, Gadkari asked Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to immediately submit its technical report to enable the speedy execution of the projects. The two STPs are seen as critical infrastructure to stop untreated sewage from flowing directly into the Nag River — a long-standing environmental concern in the city. Once complete, the projects are expected to significantly improve the river's water quality and reduce public health risks associated with sewage pollution. Besides the STP push, Fadnavis and Gadkari reviewed the city's broader infrastructure progress. Gadkari once again expressed concern over the low-pressure water supply in some localities and directed officials to act promptly. During the meeting, a review of the city's integrated traffic management system and CCTV network was also conducted. Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari informed that six teams are working to revive non-functional cameras and that the entire CCTV system will be operational within the next two months. The chief minister also called for a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) that considers Nagpur's future urban expansion. He instructed that any road stretches dug up for utility works, particularly by MSEDCL, be restored without delay. The meeting was attended by revenue minister and guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Krishna Khopde and Pravin Datke, urban development principal secretary Govindraj KH, MahaMetro MD Shravan Hardikar, MSIDC MD Brijesh Dixit, district collector Vipin Itankar, and senior officials from NMC, NIT, MSEDCL, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Nagpur: In a major milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Sunday handed over possession of 480 flats to economically weaker section (EWS) beneficiaries under the project Swapniketan, located at Mouza Wanjara. The symbolic key was handed over by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis , along with guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and minister of state Ashish Jaiswal. Addressing the gathering, CM Fadnavis congratulated the new homeowners and praised the quality of construction undertaken by NMC. "The same quality flat is being sold for Rs18 lakh in the adjacent scheme, but citizens are getting the flat under PMAY for Rs9 lakh," said Fadnavis. He also proposed that similar PMAY buildings — with at least 1,000 flats — should be developed in each of Nagpur's six assembly constituencies to ensure accessible housing for all. "PM Modi has already provided funds for building 30 lakh houses in the state this year. Out of the 12 crore population of Maharashtra, over 1.5 crore will be able to live in their own homes thanks to PM Modi," said Fadnavis. Stressing Nagpur's place among India's green cities, he encouraged citizens to reduce private vehicle usage and make greater use of the eco-friendly electric bus service made available by the city administration. "Steps are being taken so that the private vehicle usage is reduced in the city and people should use public transport. In the future, Metro and E-bus services will be provided within 300m to 500m distance from any person's home, especially in suburbs," said Fadnavis. During the event, city beautification projects were also unveiled, including landscaping and decorative works under Mahdi Bagh, Dahi Bazar, Sakkardara, and Dighori flyovers. Road Upgrade For Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Gets Gadkari Nod
Nagpur: In a major boost for road connectivity to Nashik for Kumbh Mela 2027, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Sunday approved upgradation, along with construction in some patches, of up to eight highways leading to the city. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting support for upgrading the road infrastructure so that Maharashtra is prepared to handle the influx of visitors to Nashik. After a meeting with Gadkari in Nagpur, Fadnavis also informed reporters that projects related to the Nashik Ring Road as well as Dwarka Circle were discussed. "We have identified certain highways which lead towards Nashik, and their upgradation was extremely important. These include roads coming from Dhule, Sambhaji Nagar, Mumbai, Palghar, Nagpur and Gujarat. Along with this, there are some internal roads which also need to be upgraded to support the flow of visitors towards Nashik," said Fadnavis. "Gadkari ji held a meeting regarding our request and he has approved all the projects. Soon, a DPR will be prepared and funds allotted.
