On a track, we want a car that's consistent, responding predictably to steering, braking, and throttle inputs lap after lap. No alarms and no surprises, please. Even pros want that in their race cars. Along with speed, of course. We're happy to report the Subaru WRX tS brought more consistency to VIR than the standard WRX we flogged here two years ago, as well as a little more speed.
The big enabler is the tS's new Brembo brake setup—six-piston fronts, two-piston rears, and larger rotors—courtesy of the TR-spec WRX. The tS also inherits the TR's Recaro sport seats, along with its wheels and 245/35R-19 Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires, up from 18-inch Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600As of the same width. Adaptive dampers from the WRX GT complete the package.
Around VIR's many turns, the tS understeered so massively that we thought the front rubber had melted away. The upside to this front-biased cornering balance is that it made the tS feel virtually spinproof.
In the competition against the standard WRX, the tS emerged victorious by 1.2 seconds. It clipped chunks of time out of Sectors 1 and 4, two places that emphasize cornering grip and agility. That improvement was a possible byproduct of the new adaptive dampers and tires. The tS gained a combined 1.5 seconds in those sectors, though it gave back several tenths in the track's final corner.
But it's the tS's new brakes that made lapping VIR less stressful. Two years ago, we wished the standard WRX had better stoppers. Wish granted. The new setup proved indefatigable, never showing a hint of fade. That gave us the confidence to nail them hard in the braking zones and trail them past the turn-in point.
Taken together, the changes to the tS confirmed that it's a real track-day machine now. It's quick enough to entertain experts, stable enough for newbies to learn on, able to lap continuously until the tank runs dry, and unshakably consistent—something track drivers of all stripes will appreciate. We sure did.

Paddle shifters can be used to take manual control over the eight-speed automatic transmission. In Japan, the IS 500 Climax Edition goes for 9,500,000 yen, which is equivalent to around $65,000. Porsche's $290K Collector Car Just Had a Very Human Error
Launched in 2023 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary 911, the Porsche 911 S/T is one of the most exclusive modern Porsches ever built. With just 1,963 units produced – a nod to the model's debut year – the S/T is a purist's and collector's dream. It pairs the 911 GT3 RS engine with a six-speed manual transmission, and thanks to weight-saving measures, it stands as one of the lightest 911s of the 992 generation. Its base price of $290,000 didn't stop well-heeled collectors from optioning theirs up well past that mark. For collectors, part of the appeal lies in the limited-run serial plaque that comes with each unit, serving as a tangible reminder of exclusivity. But that sense of uniqueness has been shaken after a pair of 911 S/Ts were spotted online – both bearing the same production number: 1,724 of 1,963. Located in Guatemala, one of the cars was finished in Shore Blue launch. It was shared on an enthusiast Instagram page nearly a year ago, clearly showing its dash badge. The second car, a Sonderwunsch commission in a custom Rose Red finish, recently appeared at a German Porsche dealership. In a video, its badge also reads "1,724 of 1,963." Porsche has confirmed the manufacturing glitch in a statement to CarBuzz. A representative from the brand confirmed that the duplication of the plaques was an accident. Still, when it comes to highly personalized cars like the 911 S/T, especially ones involving Porsche's bespoke Sonderwunsch program, a duplicated plaque is the sort of detail that makes owners raise an eyebrow, even if it doesn't affect the car's mechanical integrity or value. Manufacturing mistakes aren't new, even for brands with reputations as sterling as Porsche's. From misapplied badges to much more serious issues like powertrain defects or faulty airbags, human error is part of production reality. Land Rover Reveals Defender 110 Trophy Edition and a Competition for It to Conquer
Land Rover has announced a special-edition 2026 Defender 110 Trophy Edition, which features expedition gear and callback Trophy design elements. The Defender 110 Trophy Edition features a deployable roof ladder, a large roof rack, a raised air intake, and 20-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tires. To challenge the new model, Land Rover has created a rigorous off-road Defender Trophy competition that will be shared online to promote African wildlife conservation efforts. One of Car and Driver's own having narrowly avoided death from all angles behind the wheel of a Land Rover Discovery TDi during the 1993 Camel Trophy in Borneo, we can attest that the British marque and its vehicles know how to take adventure to the ragged edge. While the notoriously rigorous Camel Trophy and subsequent G4 Challenge are no more, Land Rover is introducing a new Defender Trophy international adventure series for 2026 and a special Defender 110 Trophy Edition model to go with it. Land Rover The new Defender 110 Trophy Edition will serve as the competition's off-road weapon of choice, fitted with celebratory styling elements and expedition-ready parts. The special-edition model is offered in two colors: Deep Sandglow Yellow or Kenswick Green, with the former recalling a staple hue on historic Camel Trophy vehicles and the latter celebrating the U.K.'s lush greenery. Exclusive Trophy decals also adorn its gloss black hood, C-pillars, and rear tailgate. On the inside, Ebony Windsor Leather seats preserve some luxury in the cabin. Land Rover Apart from the unique colors and decals, most of the Trophy Edition's external modifications are already available on the standard four-door Defender via the $5400 Explorer Pack, but they'll be put to good use during the Defender Trophy. To reduce underbody threats, it comes with a front undershield, a rear scuff plate, and wheel arch protection. Gloss black 20-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tires should also make quick work of iffy topography, and a raised air intake is meant to filter out any airborne dust clouds. Since gear storage is aways a critical aspect of lengthy safaris, the Trophy Edition features a large roof rack, a side-mounted gear carrier, and a deployable roof ladder to reach objects stowed overhead. The Trophy Edition is available to order now, priced at the equivalent of about $121,000. Final Will Be in Africa in 2026 Ultimately, the Discovery Trophy is meant to put the new special-edition model to the test, but contestants from more than 50 countries will initially duke it out on the regional level before moving on to a rigorous global final in Africa. Land Rover hasn't said what the exact hurdles will be, only that the contestants will face "driving challenges, ingenuity challenges, and physical challenges" along the way. The African final will be hosted in the fall of 2026 by Tusk, an African wildlife conservation group, with the teams' progress to be shared online. After completing the adventure, Land Rover says, the winner will "get the opportunity to leave a positive legacy with the people and places touched by Defender Trophy."
