Dad-of-four dies after stomach ache turned out to be stage four cancer

A dad whose stomach ache turned out to be stage four bowel cancer has died days after setting up a fundraiser to pay for his treatment.
Kyle Ingram-Baldwin, 40, from Minster, Kent, was diagnosed with stage-four bowel cancer after going to see his GP for a stomach ache.
He went through six rounds of chemo and another, more targeted course, but these were not able to get the disease, which spread to his liver, under control.
On June 8, he launched a GoFundMe as he was 'wasn't ready to give up', and more than £15,000 was raised towards finding alternative treatments.
But Kyle's wife, Becky, has now confirmed that he died on June 16.
In an update on the fundraising page, she wrote: 'Unfortunately, Kyle took a very sudden and unexpected turn and we lost him yesterday.
'He was the most incredible man I have ever met, and I know he would want me to thank everyone for all your sharing and donations. I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you who donated to try and help Kyle. I'm so sorry we didn't get to.'
He recently bravely spoke of his battle with cancer and how it had impacted his wife and children aged 12, nine, three and one.
He said: 'It's really hard to put into words, because I love my kids so much. You just worry about their future.
'They've got the best mum in the world, and I genuinely mean that. My wife's incredible.'
Today,Becky told donors they would all be receiving a refund, but after an 'overwhelming' number of messages, she set up a new fundraiser to support her and Kyle's young children.
She added: 'As we raised such an incredible amount from so many selfless people, I thought maybe (and it feels so weird and uncomfortable) if people wanted to, once they get refunded, they can gift money to our children.
'I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but the amount of messages I've had is just overwhelming. If you want to give your donation to charity or just make memories with your families, that's what you should do. It didn't feel right for me to make that decision.'
Kyle's ordeal began in October last year, when he sought his doctor's advice after suffering from a stomach ache for a couple of weeks.
The dad-of-four had suspected his pain was stress-related, and expected the diagnosis to be gallstones. After his pain got worse, he went to A&E.
An ultrasound found bulges on his liver, and a CT scan followed, before a call into a room of doctors, where he was given the devastating diagnosis.
He said: 'I was thinking, what's going on here? What have I done wrong? I was putting the blame on my own feet and worrying about the future for my wife and kids.
'That's probably the hardest thing – the mental side. Don't get me wrong, the physical is not funny either, but it's a mental challenge.' More Trending
Before his death, he said he was 'blown away' by the huge sum raised by the fundraiser and said it had given him hope.
Kyle worked for Automatic Retailing, a wholesale supplier for vending machines, and helped run the Men's Mental Health Support Talking Football project in Minster.
He wanted to encourage others to get checked out urgently if something doesn't feel right.
He added: 'I didn't present with any of the conventional symptoms. If you think anything's wrong, please press your GP and go get it checked, because I genuinely wouldn't want anyone being in my position.'

Simple mistake led to gallons of burning hot grease falling on female worker

A North Carolina mother was left with third-degree burns after gallons of hot grease fell on her at work. Monika Horton was working at Brick City Grill restaurant when she was asked to turn off the fryer - a job she claimed she was never trained to do. Instead of hitting the off button, Horton accidentally hit the release button - causing the boiling hot grease to suddenly explode all over her body. 'So I went over and pulled what I thought was the off button, but I hit the release button,' she told My Fox 8. 'So all of that grease came flooding out on me at one time.' The 350-degree oil caused her to fall and every time she tried to escape the inferno, she kept falling, leading to burns so bad she had to be life-flighted to the UNC burn center. 'When that grease hit me, it hit me, you can see it went straight through my Crocs. I'm going to have croc scars forever,' she said. She spent weeks in the hospital, where underwent a skin graft on her foot. Doctors estimate it will take her two to four more months to completely recover. Even after weeks in the hospital, dark red burns still linger on her skin and will leave permanent scars. However, Horton cared less about the scars and more about getting home to her daughter as fast as possible. 'It wasn't: "Oh man, I can't go to work," or "Oh man, I'm going to be broke," it was just 'Am I going to be able to play with my daughter again like a normal person again?"' she told the outlet. The family started a GoFundMe to help pay for her medical bills, as her job does not offer health insurance. 'Many of you already know how loving and hardworking my wife Monika Horton is,' her husband Brian wrote. 'She is the backbone of this family, and we can't do this thing called life without her. So I'm here today asking for help and prayers as we move forward in this healing process. 'The hospital bills and other bills are piling up, and I am just one man trying my very best to hold it all together, but it is hard, so very hard to do without my better half and loving mother, our backbone of this family, Monika Horton.' Hannah Smith, 22, lost both her legs after being sucked into a boat propeller while on a dream holiday to the Bahamas and has undergone 26 surgeries in the past six weeks A 22-year-old woman who had both of her legs torn off after being sucked into a boat's propeller has endured a "rough" few days as she prepares for her 27th surgery. University graduate Hannah Smith was celebrating graduating with top honours for her arts degree at Miles College, Alabama when the tragic accident happened in the Bahamas. Hannah fell from the side of a pontoon boat as it was docking and was suddenly dragged beneath the water by its propeller, leaving her with catastrophic injuries and partially severed legs. ‌ Hannah remains in an intensive care unit at a hospital in Miami six weeks on from the horrific incident and has undergone 26 surgeries. More are planned in the future, according to her devastated sister Rachel, who has been by her bedside since the tragedy last month. ‌ In an update posted on Friday on a GoFundMe page set up to cover the mounting medical bills, Rachel said: "Please keep Hannah Banana in your thoughts and prayers. The past few days have been pretty rough. She was scheduled to undergo her 27/28th surgery today. "However, due to multiple complications, surgeons were unable to proceed. She's currently undergoing needed lab work, tests and procedures to assist with her comfort, control pain, remedy certain issues and prepare for additional surgeries. "Anyone who's ever been in an ICU knows that some days are better than others. Yesterday and today have not been the best days. Please keep her lifted in prayer. After falling into the water and being sucked into the boat's propeller, Hannah was saved by two passengers who managed to grab her arm and pull her back on board. She was then given emergency first aid by the strangers before being airlifted to hospital. ‌ In another update posted on June 12, Rachel said the recovery process has been extremely difficult. "Hannah continues to display strength. She will be undergoing her 22nd surgery tomorrow. People are asking for updates but please keep in mind, as virtue of being in ICU, she still requires intensive care," the heartbroken sister said. "These surgeries have required her to need more blood, plasma, fluids and medications to regulate other systems. Through the pain and suffering, God has given her a will like non other. She is grateful for your prayers and support. The journey this far has been difficult to say the least. Hannah was just made aware of the death of a beloved uncle, making the situation strenuous. Please continue to pray for our family. Thank you for all the love and support." Hannah's family describe her as a crossfit-loving athlete who is a keen cheerleader, footballer and track runner. "We're trying to keep her spirits up," mum Tracy told the Mirror. "She's in a lot of pain. We're trying to practise techniques to distract her from it. Encourage her and just try to keep her pushing forward." The Royal Bahamas Police said an investigation into the freak accident was ongoing, adding in a statement: "The victim is alleged to have entered the water from a vessel she was a passenger on while it was attempting to dock. She sustained serious injuries to her lower body, caused by the vessel's propeller."

Kyle, the UK's youngest person with MND, gets surprise on his 14th birthday The family of Kyle Sieniawski said the "unbelievable" support helped to make the day special even though it was spent in hospital Kyle was diagnosed with MND in January (Image: Family handout ) A young boy from Pontypridd who was forced to spend his 14th birthday in hospital has had an amazing surprise from hundreds of strangers. Until March last year, Kyle Sieniawski was like any other healthy child, enjoying his favourite hobby Taekwondo, going to school and playing with his friends but he is now heartbreakingly stuck in hospital with limited mobility due to the effects of motor neurone disease (MND). He is thought to be the youngest person in the UK living with the disease. ‌ But to celebrate his special day, hundreds of strangers sent cards to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff to wish Kyle a happy 14th birthday. Even though he was tired, he was awake until 9.30pm on Thursday (June 19) opening them all. ‌ They arrived from all over the world - including from as far away as Spain and New Zealand - as well as plenty from across the UK. Kyle has been in hospital since December (Image: Family photo ) In total he received 278 cards but that number is set to get even higher as some are still making their way to Kyle's room. There is a five foot card due to arrive which has been signed by members of the MND community, organised by a woman who has MND herself. The family said the "unbelievable" support helped to make the day special and lift Kyle's spirits. His aunt, Heather Jones, said he told the nurses he would "jump out the window" if they didn't stop. ‌ One woman, Lucy Helen Taylor, who has been following Kyle's journey online also drove three hours to deliver a handmade Roblox birthday cake. He's been playing the game a lot since being in hospital and is now known as the "champion", so much so in fact that he got gifted a huge Connect 4 set. Kyle's parents Melanie and Mark want to thank everyone for helping to make Kyle's day special. They added that the messages of support they have been receiving since Kyle's diagnosis have helped them to get through the days. ‌ Kyle was opening cards until 9.30pm at night (Image: Family handout ) His parents are still fighting a battle to try and get Kyle home. He has been stuck in hospital since December 31 last year because they cannot get their home adapted with the equipment Kyle would need.
