‘Forest Gump' star Gary Sinise open to Hollywood comeback under ‘right circumstances'
Gary Sinise would make a Hollywood comeback — if the opportunity was right.
During an interview with Fox News Digital ahead of the PBS National Memorial Day Concert, the actor said that he would return to the film and television business if the circumstances aligned.
'I can't leave home for the amount of time that I used to go and shoot a movie or something like that, but if the right thing came along — under the right circumstances and it felt right and the timing was good and it didn't take me away from home too much — I would absolutely consider it,' Sinise said.
'It's all about timing, and it's all about the project and the people that would be involved in it. I've been blessed, you know, like I said, when you're on television on a hit show for nine years ('CSI: NY'), you can put some money away, and I've been able to use that money for good, and you know, now I can kind of be selective about what I'm doing in life.'
Back in 2019, Sinise took a break from Hollywood to care for his son McCanna, known as Mac, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called chordoma. Mac died from cancer in 2024.
Sinise is grateful for his movie and TV career, giving him the financial freedom to care for his son during his final years.

Photo by'I had a blessed career and I financially did well. And I've been able to build a foundation. I've been able to take care of the family. I was able to take care of my son during a very difficult time because he needed round-the-clock nursing care and that's not paid for by the insurance. So, there were a lot of things I've been able to do because I had a successful movie and television career,' said Sinise.
'If the right project came. I would consider it, no doubt. I'm not out there pounding the pavement right now. Occasionally doing a paid speech or paid narration or something that only takes a little bit of time, doesn't take me away from home too long,' he said. 'So, I put a little money away, and it helps keeps things flat, where I don't have to dip into the investments too much because I save those for special things that I want to support and donate to.'
Sinise told Fox News Digital that there were projects he passed on to be home with his family.

'There have been some things I've had to say I was unavailable for the amount of time that it would take. Some television series that would take me away from home, you know, every week and that kind of thing. I just can't do it with the situation that we're in now. With the family. I have to find the right… kind of thing,' he said.
Sinise said he's been talking to some people about projects that would align with his current lifestyle.
'I'm talking to a few people about a couple of different things that would fit the lifestyle right now a little bit better. And that's important, you know. I got five grandkids. We're hoping for more. Leaving home for long periods of time is just not anything I want to do,' he said.
'I put in my time doing that for many years and had some great wonderful projects, and they took me away from home quite a bit when my kids were young.'
'Right now, I want to stay home a lot more, and I'm fulfilled with the mission of the Gary Sinise Foundation.' he admitted.
The actor founded his foundation in 2011 to support veterans, first responders and their families through various programs, including smart homes, mental wellness initiatives and community outreach.
Aside from running the Gary Sinise Foundation, the 'CSI: NY' actor will be returning for the 19th year as the PBS Memorial Day Concert's co-host.
Sinise told Fox News Digital that he initially got involved in the event after being invited by Hollywood actor, Joe Mantegna.

'He called me and said, 'Have you heard about the National Memorial Day Concert?' And I said, 'No, I haven't.' He said, 'Well, I just got involved with it a couple of years ago. It's a big concert on the West Lawn of the Capitol, and it's televised on PBS,'' Sinise said.
Mantegna then invited Sinise and his band to perform at the 2005 Memorial Day concert. The following year, he was asked to come back and co-host with Mantegna.
Sinise described the annual concert as a 'national memorial service for our fallen heroes.'
'Memorial Day is about remembering and honoring those who have sacrificed, given their lives in service to our country over the years. We still have over 130,000 Americans buried in 26 different cemeteries overseas because of the sacrifices that were made during World War II and what not. That's a lot of sacrifice to keep us free over the years,' he said.
During the show, military service members and their families are showcased, and a spotlight is shined on those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The National Memorial Day Concert will air on PBS on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. The show can also be live-streamed on PBS on Memorial Day.

What Epic Universe means for Universal Orlando Resort's other theme parks
It's been just over a month since the opening of Universal's shiny new theme park, Universal Epic Universe. This month also marks 35 years since the opening of Universal Orlando Resort's first park, Universal Studios Florida. Universal has four Orlando parks in all, and while many travelers are eager to experience the new addition, the company is betting big on the wider destination. 'This fourth gate changes everything for Universal Orlando,' resort President and Chief Operating Officer Karen Irwin said at a small gathering of executives and journalists at Epic Universe, on the eve of its opening. 'It not only cements us as more than a full weeklong destination vacation, but it also adds three hotels to the resort.' Here's what Epic Universe means for the rest of Universal Orlando. What are the 4 parks at Universal Orlando? Universal Studios Florida came first, opening in 1990. Universal Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, the same year as the destination's CityWalk dining and entertainment complex and first resort hotel. This marks the beginning of the larger Universal Orlando Resort. Universal Volcano Bay water park opened in 2017. Universal Epic Universe officially opened this May. Why do people go to Universal Orlando? When Universal Studios Florida first opened, its motto was 'ride the movies.' The wider resort is known for bringing beloved films to life in immersive experiences ranging from the once groundbreaking, still beloved E.T. Adventure ride to the five new worlds at Epic Universe. 'There's no replacement for being here live. Put your phones down. You're immersed, and you're experiencing all of this,' said Michael J. Cavanagh, president of Universal's parent company, Comcast Corporation. Its parks are alongside Disney among the most popular in North America, according to the latest Global Attractions Attendance Report from the Themed Entertainment Association and infrastructure leader AECOM. Like Disney, Universal has a deep bench of intellectual property. However, Universal is known for having relatively more thrill rides for big kids and adults, though its parks also have kid-friendly areas and Universal is building a new theme park in Texas geared toward young families. 'Obviously we come at it with a little different age target than they do,' Cavanagh said. One of Universal Orlando's biggest draws is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which now has three destinations across property: Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. 'If you're a Harry Potter fan, you have to see all three parks,' said Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations and Experiences. 'It started with the idea 'how do we continue to grow our Orlando business?' and the realization that in order do that, we needed another park to garner a full week vacation and make this the destination of choice for people for their full Orlando vacation trip,' Woodbury said. That growth benefits others too, according to Jakob Wahl, president and CEO of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. "Not only do (guests) experience a fantastic new park, but that also implies a certain reaction because it will drive competition and we will see more parks being built because our industry likes to challenge each other," he said. "I think there are only winners in this story, and I'm very excited to see how it plays out." In addition to Universal Orlando's four parks, guests now have their choice of 11 hotels with 11,000 rooms on property, so they don't have to worry about leaving or logistics until it's time to go home. "We want you not to have to think about what you're doing ... and just feel what we're doing here,' Irwin said. 'We offer this opportunity for people to come together with people that they love, the people that they care about, and just connect and be together and have those moments and those experiences that honestly they will remember for a lifetime.' What's next for Universal Orlando? Universal has said it's working on new attractions for all of its Orlando parks. 'What you can't see sitting here are all the expansion areas that are outside the spaces that you can see,' Woodbury said from inside Celestial Park. 'There's a lot of room for expansion. We're already thinking about how that plays out, and it's the same on the north end of the campus, new attractions coming, new intellectual property coming.' Details remain under wraps, but Universal has shared the location for at least one future project. A new experience will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit after it closes permanently at Universal Studios Florida on Aug. 18. How far is Epic Universe from the other parks? Epic Universe is about 4 miles away from Universal Orlando's other parks. Free resort transportation is available between the two campuses, and between Universal parks and hotels. How much do Epic Universe tickets cost? Single-day tickets to Epic Universe start at $139 for guests ages 10 and older. Prices vary by date. Bay Area's Pixar suffers worst box office opening in 39 years with ‘Elio'
Pixar suffered the worst opening weekend in its history with 'Elio,' the Emeryville studio's latest original animated feature, which pulled in just $21 million in North America and $14 million overseas for a global total of $35 million. The numbers fall well below expectations and mark a troubling low for the Bay Area animation giant behind 'Toy Story,' 'Finding Nemo' and 'Inside Out.' 'Elio' now holds the record for Pixar's weakest debut, dropping below 2023's 'Elemental,' which opened to $44.5 million worldwide. Despite strong word-of-mouth and an 'A' CinemaScore, 'Elio' failed to draw a crowd in a crowded market. Disney, Pixar's parent company, had hoped the film would at least match 'Elemental's' opening. Internal projections were lowered late last week as interest waned. The wobbly launch comes just a year after Pixar scored one of its biggest hits with 'Inside Out 2,' which became the top-grossing animated film of all time, earning $1.7 billion globally. 'Elio,' which cost an estimated $250 million to produce and market, was outpaced by Universal's 'How to Train Your Dragon,' which remained No. 1 at the domestic box office with $37 million in its second weekend. I Spent A Whole Day In Epic Universe's Nintendo World, And There Are A Few Keys That Will Maximize The Experience

Universal's Epic Universe is now open to the public, and whether you think it's a Disney World killer or not, there's no denying it's a great theme park once you visit. This is especially true if you're a longtime obsessive Nintendo fan like me, and just got to take your daughter to experience the wondrous Super Nintendo World in person. I can confirm it's even more glorious than videos and photos do it justice, and I spent a whole day in the land riding rides, looking for popcorn buckets, and just having an absolute blast with my seven-year-old. That said, I think I also learned some keys to maximizing the experience, and I'm hoping to pass them along to others ahead of their trip so that they make the most out of their time in the park. I'm a frugal guy, so when it comes to the "bells and whistles" of the theme park experience, I'm gonna pass more often than not. For example, I decided not to get the express pass for me and my daughter, but I'll get into that more in the next section. Because I'm frugal, I also passed on the opportunity to get a Power-Up Band (against the advice of CB's Jessica Rawden) for myself, but I absolutely understood the reason for getting one for my daughter. Most of the appeal of the park is feeling like you're in an actual Super Mario Bros. video game, and unless you have the band, you're going to miss out on the appeal of that experience. And trust me, I can understand the pain of paying for a Disney Magic Band that offers less functional value than an actual Magic Band, but all that goes out the window the first time you get to or see someone else hit a question block for a coin. It's a feeling that never gets old, and there are so many other neat things to do with it when you get inside. There's an "underground" experience where you traverse the underbelly of the Mushroom Kingdom, and use it to unlock cool easter eggs along the way. Plus, if you're someone who enjoys achievements, the band collects digital stamps and rewards for all the various accolades you collect while spending time in the park. We weren't able to complete everything in a full day there, so there is a reason to hold onto it in case you return in the future. Additionally, I've seen the band also functions as an amiibo if you own a Nintendo Switch, so store it in a safe place if you do purchase. As I'm sure readers know, the Orlando experience is not cheap. A day at the hottest new theme park in the area, with a day at Magic Kingdom at Disney World the following day, was making my wallet weep. Not to mention, I already paid for the premier pass for Magic Kingdom, so I figured I could skimp on getting an Express Pass to ride the three rides at Super Nintendo World. The original plan was to run through Super Nintendo World, check out some of the other parts of the park that others I work with raved about, and then get out by dinner time to meet up with family who didn't tag along. In the seven hours I was in the park, we spent all of it in Super Nintendo World, and a good deal of that time was spent waiting to ride Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, Yoshi's Adventure, and Mine Cart Madness. If you're trying to see the whole park, I think the express pass is the way to go. I also say that if you're looking for comfort, because full disclosure, those lines can be long and rough on a summer day. I will say the full queue for Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge is mostly indoors and air-conditioned, and full of easter eggs, so if you have to wait in line, it's so refreshing and fun to do so. I wish I could say the same for Yoshi's Adventure, as outside of some artwork and music from Nintendo Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, you could breeze through it and not miss much. I would say the same for Mine Cart Madness as well, as even the great soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3 music was not enough to make up for having to be out in the blazing sun for a bulk of the wait. Bottom line, if you need comfort or are on a tight schedule, spend the extra money on the Express Pass. Going into Epic Universe, I had one objective in mind. I was going to leave with a souvenir Donkey Kong mug that came with a purchase of the DK Crush Float at The Bubbly Barrel. I dreamt of that mug for weeks, and all the things I might drink out of it. Hell, I was planning on splitting the float with my daughter while we waited in line for Donkey Kong: Mine-Cart Madness. By the way, that roller coaster is as incredible as it looks, though way more intense and scary for a seven-year-old than you might think by watching the videos of it online. More On Epic Universe I Went On Every Ride At Epic Universe. One Ride Stood Out Above Them All Unfortunately, when I arrived, The Bubbly Barrel's machine was not working. A bummer, to be sure, and on top of that, I was unable to purchase the souvenir cup without even getting the float in exchange. It's wild to say I would've actually done that, but considering I couldn't buy it in the gift shop, I was left with little other option than to ask. It wasn't the only thing I was disappointed to leave without when I finished my day at Epic Universe. I also had my heart set on getting a Bowser shirt with a neon logo, but was unable to track it down when I ventured through the merchandise store. I ended up buying a Donkey Kong drinking glass, which I still really love, but couldn't help but be disappointed that I left with neither of the things I'd wanted. All this to say, Super Nintendo World was absolutely filled to the brim with people when I was in there, and I don't imagine it'll be any less crowded anytime soon. There's only a limited amount of merchandise available, so I wouldn't suggest setting your heart on grabbing any one piece of anything until you're there and can assure you'll get your hands on it. Also, even when the machine is working, that line at The Bubbly Barrel is super long, so be prepared to wait if you want that mug like I did. Overall, I'd have to say that Epic Universe was a real joy, though I do hope to see more of it overall the next time I get to visit. Be sure to check it out, and take heed of my tips about Super Nintendo World if you're looking to have the best time possible.
