Strict implementation of free sand policy ordered
Puttaparthi: District Collector TS Chetan directed officials to ensure the strict and transparent implementation of the State Government's prestigious Free Sand Policy in Sri Sathya Sai district.
He issued these instructions while presiding over the District Level Sand Com-mittee (DLSC) meeting held on Thursday at the Mini Conference Hall of the Collec-torate.
Speaking at the meeting, he stated that the orders issued by the State Govern-ment must be rigorously enforced at the district level. He noted that the district administration is already implementing the free sand policy transparently and effi-ciently.
The Collector instructed that all vehicles transporting sand must display a banner stating 'Free Sand Transport Vehicle' and must be equipped with GPS tracking systems. He also directed that CCTV cameras be installed at all sand supply cen-ters and their operations be continuously monitored.
To prevent interstate illegal sand transportation, he ordered intensified night sur-veillance at check posts set up in coordination with the police. The Collector warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the free sand policy.
He also held a review on sand reaches and sand excavation operations across Sri Sathya Sai district and stressed the need to completely eliminate illegal sand mining and transportation. Officials from relevant departments were instructed to coordinate effectively at the field level to ensure proper sand distribution. meeting was attended by DLSC members, District SP V Ratna, Vice Chairman and Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar, Convenor and District Mines & Geology Officer B Peddi Reddy, and other officials.

Land row: Relief for HD Kumaraswamy as Karnataka High Court stays formation of SIT
BENGALURU: IN a relief to Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed the order issued by the State Government constituting the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the dispute over the ownership of certain parcels of land owned by him at Kethaganahalli in Ramanagara and also the summons issued by the SIT to him. Hearing the petition filed by the JDS leader challenging the legality of the order constituting the SIT and also the summons issued to him, Justice ES Indiresh passed the interim order of stay till the next date of hearing and issued notice to the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department and the tahsildar of Ramanagara taluk. The court observed that prima facie, there appears to be no formal notification issued pursuant to the government order forming SIT. The tahsildar issued a summons dated May 29, 2025, under Section 28 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964, following the constitution of SIT headed by the Regional Commissioner of Bengaluru Division by way of issuing the order dated January 28, 2025, by the Revenue Department. Stating that he is the absolute owner of the land in question, Kumaraswamy contended that he acquired the said agricultural land in 1985 under different sale deeds for a valuable sale consideration and revenue entries stand in his name. However, the tahsildar of Ramanagara intimated to him in March 2025 that a resurvey would be conducted on land bearing Sy. No.7 and 8 which are part of the land owned by him. This notice was stayed by the HC while hearing his petition challenging the amendment to Section 104 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act. Proceedings, however, were initiated against him pursuant to the constitution of the SIT under Section 195 of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act and Section 8 of the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act. But there is no notification issued by the State Government in this regard. Therefore, the order issued constituting SIT is unsustainable, as the notification is mandatory as per the provisions under which the SIT was constituted, Kumaraswamy's counsel argued.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday (June 20, 2025) restrained the West Bengal Government from implementing a scheme till September 26 to provide monetary support to non-teaching staff who lost their jobs following a Supreme Court judgment that held the selection process tainted. The Court had on June 9, 2025 reserved judgment on the petitions, which opposed the payment of ₹25,000 each to Group C and ₹20,000 each to Group D employees who lost their jobs on the Supreme Court Order, by the State. Retain school staff till new recruitment, Supreme Court tells West Bengal In an interim order, Justice Amrita Sinha restrained the State Government from giving any effect or further effect to the scheme for providing monetary relief to the non-teaching staff till September 26 or until further order, whichever is earlier. She directed the State Government to file its affidavit in opposition to the contentions of the petitioners in four weeks and reply by the petitioners within a fortnight thereafter. The West Bengal Government had introduced a scheme to provide "limited livelihood, support and social security on humanitarian ground" on temporary basis, subject to orders of any competent court, to distressed families of non-teaching staff in Group C and D categories, who were recruited through the 2016 selection process conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission. Nearly, 26,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of West Bengal Government-sponsored and -aided schools lost their jobs on a Supreme Court judgment, which found the 2016 selection process tainted.
