Fort Smith mother to file lawsuit against Alma school, alleges teacher kicked her 4-year-old son

ALMA, Ark. (KNWA/FOX24) — On May 15, Ariel Bentley's four-year-old son, Draco, informed her that he had been kicked multiple times by a teacher at Stepping Stone School in Alma, and she plans to file a lawsuit. Bentley reached out to the school, which then started an investigation into her son's claims when security footage showed the story to be true. Stepping Stone has since fired the teacher involved. Bentley said that when she saw the video, she was shocked. 'I could tell she's visibly upset at my child, and he goes into the bathroom because this is where it took place. He turns around and looks at her… It made her upset because she immediately bolted at him and starts kicking right away three times,' Bentley said. Residents question lack of sirens before Highfill tornado Bentley claims she asked to get a copy of the security footage, which the school complied with, but then later declined due to a privacy issue with another child being in the frame. Administration at the school allegedly told her that when their IT worker got back into town, they would alter the video and send it to her. Bentley said that never happened. 'May 30 came and went. A week later, I called them. They said they completely forgot about it. I said, 'How do you forget about the child abuse?'' Bentley said. According to Bentley, she was already pressing charges against the teacher involved, but now she is turning her attention to the school itself. After a Facebook post by Bentley detailed her and her son's experience, it sparked 'multiple other parents' to comment with similar stories about child abuse at Stepping Stone. 'If they're not going to replace the people in the office up there, then I think that they should be shut down,' Bentley said. 'I would like to see new people in there. I think that's the main goal. The people that are employed there do not need to be employed there. They do not need to be in charge of those children.' Bentley said she is in the process of filing a formal lawsuit against the school, claiming misconduct and child abuse as her leading factor. KNWA/FOX24 reached out to the school. Ex-Texas US Rep. Blake Farenthold, who left office amid harassment allegations, dies at 63

Former Texas Republican U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold, who left Congress amid sexual harassment allegations, has died. He was 63. He died in a Corpus Christi hospital and suffered heart and liver problems in recent years, Steve Ray, his former longtime political consultant, said. Farenthold's wife, Debbie Farenthold, confirmed that he died Friday. Blake Farenthold was elected in 2010, upsetting long-serving Democratic U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz. Seven years later, Farenthold announced that he wouldn't seek reelection. In a video he posted on his campaign's Facebook page at the time, he denied a former aide's three-year-old accusations, which included that he'd subjected her to sexually suggestive comments and behavior and then fired her after she complained. He apologized for an office atmosphere he said included 'destructive gossip, offhand comments, off-color jokes and behavior that in general was less than professional.' He said in the video that if he stayed in Congress, he would have spent months trying to vindicate himself. 'We all make mistakes,' Ray said Saturday. 'He made some mistakes.' Ray described him as a 'techie' who was interested in the internet and technology before getting involved in politics. 'He did a tremendous job as congressman for this area,' Ray said, noting that Farenthold cared about fighting crime and promoting transparency. 'His heart was really always in the right place.' Before becoming a congressman, Farenthold was a sidekick for a conservative radio talk show host, Ray said. 'When he decided to run, nobody in the world thought he was going to win,' Ray said. When he left office, Farenthold started his own radio show, which he continued until he died. In addition to his wife, Farenthold is survived by two adult daughters, Morgan Baucum and Amanda Lawrence, Ray said.
