Fans of the popular BBC soap, EastEnders, are only just realising that one legendary cast member has a very famous brother in the acting industry who helped her bag her first big role.
Laila Morse, best known for her role of Mo Harris in the beloved soap, made her debut on the programme back in 2000 as the loud matriarch of the Slater family with her famous one-liners.
But what many viewers don't know about Laila is that she didn't make it in the industry until she was 51-years-old- and it was her famous younger brother who helped her get there. Fans were floored when they discovered that Laila, now 79, is the older sister of none other than Hollywood sensation Gary Oldman, reports The Daily Record.
Gary, 67, rose to fame in the mid 1980s and made his acting debut in the film Remembrance in 1982. The actor is best known for his roles in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Immortal Beloved, Sid & Nancy, Batman The Dark Knight and Harry Potter where he plays Sirius Black.
He's had a wildly successful career, having won three British Academy Film Awards, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his work.

Gary attended drama school as a child while Laila, whose real name is Maureen Oldman, took a very different path as she left school without any qualifications and fell pregnant at 17.
She went on to welcome her two children, Gerry and Tracey, during her first marriage to Gerald Bromfield which ended in 1970 after he was jailed for theft. She remarried to a man named Jimmy Bass who she divorced in 2003 after nine years together.
Laila worked in hospitality and retail before her acting career finally took off later in life and she has previously credited her brother for helping her get her foot in the door by landing her first role in Gary's 1997 Nil By Mouth film.
She then made her TV debut in two episodes of The Bill, as well as TV production of Great Expectations.
She previously told Loose Women: "My big brother wrote and directed Nil by Mouth. He just wanted something raw. He was with a friend and he just said, 'she could do that'. I just looked at him and went what? I can't do that.
"He said, 'Come back to the hotel and read a bit', which I did...and he went, 'right you're doing it.' That's the first thing I'd ever done."
Laila then went on to secure her role as 'Big Mo' in the BBC soap in 2000.
She has appeared in the show intermittently for the past two and a half decades, with stints from 2000-2016 and 2018-2022.
Mo returned to Albert Square in May last year on a permanent basis with her great grandson Freddie Slater, who is played by Bobby Brazier.
Laila and her brother Gary are known to be very close with the siblings spending Christmas Day together at Gary's California home in 2018.
In sweet photos, shared by Gary's wife Giselle Schmidt, the family grinned for the camera around the dinner table with another snap showing Laila making a "proper English Christmas dinner" for them to tuck into.
Meanwhile back in 2021, the pair enjoyed a sibling trip to Las Vegas. Taking to her Instagram at the time, Laila shared a snap of her and Gary, writing: 'Throwback to our trip to Las Vegas.'
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer

Michael Palin opens up about his grief two years on from the death of his beloved wife Helen Gibbins and says he still talks out loud to her

Michael Palin has opened up about his grief two years on from the death of his beloved wife Helen. The Monty Python star, 82, was married to Helen for 57 years after meeting as teenagers on holiday in Suffolk. The mother of their three children — Thomas, 56, William, 53, and Rachel, 49 — had been suffering chronic pain for several years and then developed kidney failure. She passed away at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead, north London, on May 2, 2023. Speaking to Saga magazine, Michael said he feels grief now and is able to focus on keeping the spirit of Helen around. 'I can see why people say it takes two years or so before your response gradually changes,' he said. 'It becomes less about loss and more about the spirit of that person being around, so that's very nice. 'I feel less grief now, and more that I've got to keep on doing things, looking after the children we made together. He continued: 'I talk to myself as if she's there. I'll show some spectacular bit of incompetence that I know she would have found funny, then I'll hear myself saying something in the way she would have said it and I'll laugh, even though I'm the only one there. 'Imagining her being there makes me laugh.' Asked if he thought finding love again was on the cards, Michael said: 'We were a unit for so long. You can never begin to replace a relationship which lasted 60 years. 'I'm OK living on my own, then I go off to Venezuela or somewhere. I'm not moping.' On living alone, he added: 'I didn't want to be dependent on the family to come around every day. I don't cook, unfortunately. There were various areas like that where I thought I might be a bit vulnerable. 'But it turns out I'm quite good at being on my own. The other person who guides me through that is actually Helen.' Sir Michael and Helen met at the seaside town of Southwold when they were 16. They reconnected by chance in the actor's first year at Oxford University, before marrying at the age of 22. While the BBC TV director was suffering from kidney failure, Sir Michael was travelling to make documentaries about North Korea and Iraq for Channel 5 after he left the BBC in 2012. But in September, Sir Michael expressed regret over this, saying: 'I don't have regrets really. Perhaps towards the end, when I was doing the later travel journeys like North Korea. 'I don't think she particularly wanted me to go away then, but she knew that my interest in travel and other people was very deep-seated, it wasn't because I wanted to get away from home — it wasn't that at all.' The Pole To Pole author recently released a book, There And Back, of his diaries which he said helped him cope with his wife's health issues. He said: 'Helen was ill for a couple of years, so it wasn't a sudden death, and I was helping her and caring for her through a lot of pain. 'Writing this down helped me to deal with it. I needed to remember all that.' Last year the actor heartbreakingly admitted that his late wife's clothes were still hanging 'in the cupboard' as they make it feel as if she was 'still here'. Almost two years since his agonising loss, Michael told how he likes to see her belongings around their home as it reminds him of the time they spend together, with the star adding that it's the reason he will never move. Speaking in an interview with The Times, Michael said on the possibility of moving: 'I don't feel that way - at the moment, anyway. Everything around me has a story or something that reminds me of time we spent together, not in a maudlin way'. 'Just they are the props of your life. Get rid of all those props and I'd be in a different play, playing a different character. And I don't want to do that. 'I know it seems odd, but I carry on as though Helen is still here. Her clothes are still in the cupboards. I don't want to change my life, because I feel she wouldn't want that either. It's still a nice house to come back to. I feel her presence here.' After almost six decades of marriage to the love of his life, Michael went on to say that he couldn't imaging starting a relationship with anyone new as he was still 'bereft' over losing Helen. He shared: 'I shared my life with someone for so long that I find it impossible to think of sharing it in the same way with anyone else again. So in a way, I'm sort of freer.' The TV personality said he found it 'odd' with her not around, especially when coming home from the theatre or dinner and wanting to tell her about his experience. He added that he misses 'the little things' about their relationship, adding that he still finds it 'very difficult' without her - especially when it comes to cooking.

The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. Bloodthirsty Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) has struck again, claiming the life of Ian, a social worker who he believed knew way too much. The crazed killer, as viewers know, has thus far killed Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith) and Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) since rocking up in the village. His murder spree, however, dates back decades, with the twisted gardener keeping track of all his victims' names in a notebook which he keeps close. An unexpected turn of events last week confirmed that one of those victims was none other than Dennis Savage (Joe Tracini), whose disappearance Dodger (Danny Mac) is investigating, unaware the culprit is much closer to home. In a bid to get answers, Dodger met with Tori's social worker Ian, who confirmed that a member of the Blake clan was harassing Dennis prior to his vanishing. That person was none other than Jez, who watched the secret meeting from afar, spooking Ian, who swiftly made tracks. However, as he got back to his car, he was confronted by Jez in an alley way, who proceeded to murder him. Feeling a rush as he did so, Jez returned to the flat and informed Martha (Sherrie Hewson), who was less than pleased to learn that he had shed more blood. Emmerdale legend sacked in early ITVX release as war is waged

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has shown his true colours to Caleb Miligan (William Ash) in Emmerdale, desperate to do something about Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley). Robert was released from prison towards the end of last week. He immediately made his way to the village, and announced to an unimpressed John and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) that he was back to spend more time with his family. It was very obvious that Robert was there for other reasons as well though. Prior to his release, Robert was visited by John, and grew concerned when his distant brother threatened him. Robert tried to tell Vic Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) that she needs to stay away from John, but she refused to listen, convinced her brother was just saying these things out of jealousy. During Robert's first full day in the village, he attempted to get a new job at Caleb's depot. The businessman gave him a chance and offered Robert a trial, and didn't really care that it annoyed John and Aaron. In tonight's episode, Robert was late to his trial, but made up for it by discussing business contacts with Caleb. During his lunch break, Caleb opened the door to John. He was still expressing his annoyance about Robert being around, and told Caleb that he can't work with him. Because John couldn't actually give Caleb a real reason why he didn't want Robert present, he resorted to blackmail. He told Caleb that he owes him, given he helped cover up Anthony Fox's murder earlier this year. More Trending To Caleb, it was a low move but to us, it was just classic John. Without any choice, Caleb spun a story that ultimately ended Robert's trial at the depot. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? After a comment from Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) though, Robert realised that Caleb was lying about not needing him. Outside on the street, Robert confronted John about his interfering. The Sugden brothers attempted to fight, but their confrontation was broken up by Vic. View More » John was left raging as the episode ended. As far as he's concerned, Robert needs to disappear and in upcoming episodes, he'll show that he's prepared to do whatever it takes to make sure that happens.
