IO Interactive's James Bond game '007 First Light' is coming in 2026

The developer of Hitman: World of Assassination, IO Interactive, is finally showing off its take on a James Bond with a new trailer that debuted during Sony's summer State of Play on June 4. IO Interactive originally announced it was working on "Project 007" back in November 2020, and only recently shared that the game was called 007 First Light and would be a "James Bond origin story."
Given how much of a Hitman level can be defined by 007-esque antics like using disguises, infiltrating enemy bases and using gadgets, IO Interactive seemed like a natural fit to make the next game in the franchise. IO Interactive's first trailer is unfortunately narrative-focused, depicting early moments from this new Bond's career, including his training in the Navy.
Many of the most memorable Bond games have hewed closely to existing plots or visual depictions from from the franchise's over-60-year history, whether the single-player story of GoldenEye 007 adapting key moments of the film, or Pierce Brosnan's likeness being used in James Bond 007: NightFire. IO Interactive is taking a deliberately different approach, telling a Bond origin story and creating an original version of the character that isn't based on one of the films.
To be clear, the future of the James Bond film franchise is still a little uncertain in its own right. Longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson handed off creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman in March 2025. They've yet to announce a new film or recast James Bond, who was most recently played by Daniel Craig.
IO Interactive has confirmed that 007 First Light will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X /S an PC in 2026.

Johnson told Poehler: 'I recently actually exchanged texts — well, I got a voice note — from Sandra Bullock, because I don't know if you know, but I won the Razzie for Worst Actress. 'There's a lot of good people who have won that… but Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note, being like 'I heard you are in the Razzie club and we should have brunch, we should have a monthly brunch.' Because I guess she won that the year that she won the Oscar as well. It was in the same year, I think.' Understandably, Johnson was surprised. 'I freaked out getting this message from her because she's so iconic to me, as like a movie star. I was like, 'Oh my God.' I was just crazy.' The infamous Madame Web , Sony's much-memed Marvel misfire, saw Johnson play Cassandra Webb, a New York paramedic who gains psychic powers after a near-death experience. It had all the makings of an intriguing origin story, but what hit theaters felt more like a chopped-up relic of a movie caught between studio mandates and shifting creative visions. With an 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and just $43 million earned at the domestic box office, it quickly became the internet's punching bag. But Johnson has made it clear she's not taking the blame lying down. She previously explained what went wrong behind the scenes. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body. And it's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. 'And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.' On Good Hang , she expanded even further, opening up about how disorienting the process was as an actor. 'The final cut of Madame Web was a completely different script than what I attached to. That is a wild thing to like a crazy journey to go on as an artist because you're like, 'Okay, I'm doing something like with my actual body and my actual mind and my heart, my emotions. 'I'm like using things. And it's just being taken and f*cked with.' But you can't do anything about it. Like, what am I gonna do? F*cking cry about Madame Web? Open Channel: What'd You Think of '28 Years Later'?
For a long time, fans of 28 Days Later have held out hope for a third movie. To their surprise, Sony suddenly threw those fans a bone with the announcement 28 Years Later was happening, and what's more, the first film's creative duo of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were returning to the zombie saga they began in 2002. With each trailer and peek at the film, Years has looked better and scarier. Reactions may have come surprisingly late—shortly before its release in theaters, weirdly—but despite that, they've been mostly high. Even those that don't really think the film works have given props to the cast and the filmmaking techniques used to show off the new suite of infected Garland and Boyle have cooked up. Sony's already got eyes on making at least two more 28 Years Later films, and a sequel, The Bone Temple, is arriving in January 2026. If Boyle and Garland have their way, those plans will involve bringing Cillian Murphy back as 28 Days' Jim for the hopeful third film. 007: Next James Bond Rumored to be DCU Star
A new rumor surrounding the James Bond franchise suggests that a forthcoming DCU star is one of several actors being eyed for the highly coveted role of James Bond. According to noted insider Daniel Richtman (also known as DanielRPK), Aaron Pierre is one of several names being considered for the role of the legendary spy. Pierre broke out into superstardom following his role in 2021's Old, and Netflix's Rebel Ridge, as well as 2024's Mufasa: The Lion King. Pierre will also next appear in the next season of Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, and will play John Stewart in the DCU for the series' Lanterns series. Richtman didn't mention any other names that are being considered for Bond. The James Bond franchise is now in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios following the shocking announcement earlier this year that longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson would be stepping back from their long-time status as producers on the franchise, allowing Amazon MGM Studios to take creative control of the franchise. The agreement sees Amazon MGM Studios and the duo forming a new joint venture house to house the intellectual property rights for the Bond franchise. The three parties will remain co-owners of the Bond series, but now Amazon MGM Studios will have creative control, something that Broccoli and Wilson had retained before. Prior to the announcement, both Wilson and Broccoli had been known as fiercely protective over the franchise, but in a statement on the move, Wilson noted that he was stepping back to focus more on art and charitable projects, while Broccoli said she would be focusing on other projects now. Information about the future of the James Bond franchise, as well as what the next film will be about, remains mysterious for now.
