Aaron Taylor-Johnson drops cryptic clue he could be next James Bond at 28 Years Later premiere in London

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has further fuelled rumors he could be the next James Bond after responding cryptically to a question about his upcoming projects. Speculation about the forthcoming movie has been heating up in recent weeks with fans desperate to discover who will be following in the footsteps of Daniel Craig. At the world premiere of 28 Years Later in London on Wednesday, a Deadline reporter asked the Kick-Ass actor: 'What are you doing next?' The 35-year-old replied, 'I can't talk about it', as he was pulled away by his entourage. Some saw the curt response as a hint that his next project could be the 007 franchise, based on the novels by Ian Fleming. The Godzilla star has been one of those actors touted for the role, with Aaron even becoming the bookies' frontrunner at points. In May, Aaron appeared to hint that he could be the next superstar to don the iconic tux after signing a deal with the film's watch provider, Omega. Prior to Amazon's purchase of the Bond franchise, it was rumoured that Aaron was former Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's ideal candidate to take over the reigns from Craig. But he slightly dropped down the lists after playing it cool when asked about the possibility of him starring in the next movie. 'It's not really for me to say anything,' he told Esquire when quizzed about speculation. But the superstar joined Omega's family of global ambassadors - the makers of the watches which have been on the wrists of 007 actors for 30 years. Pierce Brosnan, 72, was the first special agent to don Omega during the 1995 film GoldenEye and the partnership has flourished ever since, with Craig wearing the brand's Seamaster watch during No Time To Die. After signing the deal, Aaron said: 'I have always had an appreciation for timepieces but especially for Omega. At the world premiere of 28 Years Later in London on Wednesday, a Deadline reporter asked the Kick-Ass actor: 'What are you doing next?' After signing the lavish new deal, the actor said: 'I have always had an appreciation for timepieces but especially for Omega' 'Now, after visiting the factory, I am in awe of the skill required to manufacture such a luxurious product.' Omega's CEO described Aaron as a 'versatile actor with a range that covers action, thriller, romance and much more'. It's precisely those qualities - and his striking good looks - that have led to the actor's strong links to the role. Last week, Jonathan Bailey responded to rumours touting him as the next James Bond during an awkward exchange with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2. Daniel Craig relinquished his 'license to kill' with the 2021 film No Time To Die, which also proved to be the last masterminded by Bond producer of 30 years Barbara Broccoli after Amazon took over 'creative control' of the franchise. Having spent a reported $1billion on sealing the deal, the company are said to be fast-tracking the new movie with Hollywood producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal hired to bring in the new era of Bond. They're likely to want to put their own spin on 007, with Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey said to be one of the names in the running. Pressed by Scott about the rumours, the 37-year-old responded: 'That's an amazingly flattering ask. I mean, it would be hard to say no.' While Bailey stopped short of confirming anything official, he teased: 'I don't know, I really honestly... I mean it would be hard to say no.' The actor then joked with Scott: 'I could imagine you as James Blonde,' to which the host replied: 'Well swerved!' 'I know that it's going to be exciting whatever they do,' Bailey then affirmed. It came after the Brit - who played the starring role in Bridgerton - was tipped for the part of 007 by Harris Dickinson, 28, who had been a bookies' favourite. Harris had been in attendance at a BFI event in Cannes last month when he was asked who he thought would be the best Bond with the questioner saying that he was their 'second choice' for the role. 'Jonathan Bailey is your first choice, so lets go with that,' said Harris. 'That sounds like a good idea.'

Aaron Taylor-Johnson breaks silence on James Bond role at 28 Years Later premiere

Aaron Taylor Johnson was asked about his next project at the premiere of his latest film, 28 Years Later Aaron Taylor-Johnson has a lot to live up to as the star of 28 Years Later. He follows on from incredible performances by Cillian Murphy in 28 Days Later and Scots actor Robert Carlyle in the sometimes forgotten sequel, 28 Weeks Later. However, no matter how good the Bullet Train star is in the new Danny Boyle-directed zombie film, it's what he's up to next that is on everyone's mind. For years, Taylor-Johnson has been rumoured to be the next James Bond and the actor has now finally broken his silence on whether or not this is actually going to happen. ‌ During a brief interview on the red carpet for 28 Years Later, the 35 year old was asked directly by Deadline what his next project is. The actor gave a coy smile and simply replied "I can't talk about it" before turning away from the interviewer. ‌ The brief interaction was posted on X, with many social media users claiming that his refusal to speak could mean he has secured the role as the next 007 and is hinting at it by saying he "can't talk about it". One user replied: "He's my number one hope for the next James Bond. Really hoping for a solid 10-15 years of him in that role." Another echoed: "James Bond baby." A third chimed in: "Please let it be Bond." Someone else agreed: "Bond... James Bond #Bond26." Meanwhile, another wrote: "Bond confirmed then." A fifth suggested: "Either Bond or back for Avengers." ‌ Another person agreed with this theory, adding: "This will mean he's doing a Marvel thing then." It's plausible the star could be involved in a different franchise, having been the original Quicksilver in the Marvel Universe. Other fan suggestions of his next secret project include a Bullet Train prequel or even Kick Ass 3. ‌ However, the idea that's he is the next James Bond is starting to feel a lot more possible. The new 007 film is currently in development by Amazon/MGM. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are prepping the film in London and while rumours are still flying about who may be the next Bond, Taylor-Johnson remains the favourite. ‌ The actor's latest film 28 Years Later sees Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer taking the leading roles as a husband and pregnant wife named Jamie and Isla, alongside their son Spike. The third instalment in the 28 Days Later series is set nearly three decades after the Rage Virus outbreak and follows a group of survivors living on the tidal island of Lindisfarne. ‌ Despite not even being released in cinemas yet, the film has already received glowing reviews from critics with an impressive 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This rating surpasses the original 28 Days Later hit film (2002), starring Cillian Murphy, which holds a Certified Fresh score of 87%. Additionally, the movie had a critics' score of 72% and an audience score of 66%. 28 Years Later is in cinemas from June 20

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Dodges Big Bond Question on '28 Years Later' Red Carpet

As the star of 28 Years Later, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has some big shoes to fill; Cillian Murphy was incredible in the first film, 28 Days Later, and Robert Carlyle was great in the sometimes forgotten sequel, 28 Weeks Later. But, no matter how good Taylor-Johnson is in the new Danny Boyle-directed zombie flick, what he's doing next is on everyone's mind. For years now, Taylor-Johnson has been the leading favorite to take over the role of James Bond. But now, is that actually going to happen? While on the red carpet for 28 Years Later, Taylor-Johnson was directly asked by Deadline what he's doing next. His answer was simple: "I can't talk about it." On X, where the brief clip was posted of Taylor-Johnson's non-answer, many users chimed in, noting that this refusal to talk to Deadline could totally mean that Taylor-Johnson does have the job as 007, and is admitting it, by saying he "can't talk about it." While it's also possible that Taylor-Johnson could be doing some other big franchise (he was the original Quicksilver in the MCU), the idea that he's already locked and loaded to play James Bond is starting to feel more and more possible. As of this writing, the new 007 film is currently in development by Amazon/MGM. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are prepping the film in London, and rumors are flying about who could play the next James Bond. Taylor-Johnson might not be the next Bond. But if he is, how do we feel about his poker face?Aaron Taylor-Johnson Dodges Big Bond Question on '28 Years Later' Red Carpet first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 19, 2025

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Fuels Bond Rumours With This Awkward 28 Years Later Red Carpet Moment

Aaron Taylor-Johnson… will you just spill already? It's now been well over a year since speculation went into overdrive about whether the Bullet Train actor would be taking over the role of James Bond in the iconic spy franchise, following Daniel Craig's final outing in 2021's No Time To Die. It seemed we finally had our answer in March 2024 when an unnamed 'source' told The Sun that the Tenet star had been offered the gig. However, this was then cast into doubt just one day later, when a 'production insider' told BBC News there was 'no truth in the rumours'. Despite the ongoing mystery, Aaron is hardly helping put our racing minds to rest. Appearing on the red carpet at the world premiere of his new film 28 Years Later in London on Wednesday, the actor was asked by Deadline what he was up to next. If he is, indeed, taking the reins in the legendary franchise, he's already received the seal of approval from two former 007s.
