He lasted two-and-a-half years at Middlesbrough, his first managerial job, but is now out of work.
However Carrick has now taken on a new job with the former midfielder set to appear at Soccer Aid.
Carrick, 43, has been announced as the latest player to sign up to the charity event alongside his former United team-mate, John O'Shea.
But this time around they will be on opposing teams at Old Trafford, with Carrick playing for
