Couple died with their two dogs when their car plummeted 300ft off a cliff

Metro10-06-2025

Two people killed when their car went over the edge of a cliff on the Isle of Wight at the weekend were a bus driver and his frail wife, neighbours have said.
The couple, named locally as John and Lynne King, died when their silver Ford Mondeo plunged 300ft from atop the rock face close to the Needles late on Friday. Their two Dachshund dogs were also in the car with them.
Neighbours said John was a bus driver who knew the area and its roads 'like the back of his hand' and 'doted on his wife', who was described as 'really, really frail'.
One said recalled seeing him helping his wife into the car with the dogs on Friday afternoon, saying: 'That was the last time I saw them. They never came home.'
The neighbour described seeing John regularly but reported only seeing Lynne 'maybe twice in the three years they'd been living in the road'.
'She wasn't well. I don't know exactly what she was suffering from but I think it was serious. John was effectively her carer. I never saw nurses or medically trained staff ever go in. I think he did everything for her,' they told MailOnline.
In hindsight, they said the crash 'may have been planned', recalling how John cut the grass 'for the first time in three years' days before he died, adding: 'To me, he seemed like he was getting things in order.
'Then on Friday he took his wife and dogs out in the car – which he never did before – and that was the last we saw of them.'
Police, firefighters, paramedics and coastguards all attended the scene.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said: 'We can confirm the death of two people, a woman and a man aged 66 and 67 respectively, following an incident at The Needles on the Isle of Wight on Friday, June 6.
'We were called at 7.21pm after a Ford Mondeo, which was being driven along Alum Bay New Road, left the road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below. Two dogs, both Dachshund's, were also in the car and died in the incident. More Trending
'Formal identification procedures are ongoing, but next of kin have been notified. A Post-Mortem examination will take place on Tuesday 10 June.
'As part of the ongoing investigation into the incident, which has been referred to the Coroner, officers have been carrying out enquiries at an address on Arctic Road, Cowes to help them to establish what happened.'
Police said the vehicle had been driving along the road that leads to The Needles, one of Britain's best-known coastal spots.
The world-famous Isle of Wight Needles is a row of three stacks of chalk that rise about 30 metres above the water.

Ex-England football star Andy Carroll 'is questioned twice by police on Greek party island after restaurant and hotel bust-ups with girlfriend'

Ex-England football star Andy Carroll was questioned twice by Greek police over a series of bust-ups with girlfriend Lou Teasdale while the pair holidayed in Mykonos, it has been reported. Caroll, 36, was interrogated about the arguments with his make-up artist lover in a restaurant and at their hotel on the Greek party island, The Sun on Sunday reports. Speaking about the first incident, a worker at the Nikolus Tavern told The Sun on Sunday: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' According to the restaurant worker, cops arrived and took the former footballer aside for a chat. He was later allowed to girlfriend Lou. 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant', the restaurant worker added. Just hours later, cops were called again by hotel staff following reports of damage in their room, MailOnline understands that the former England striker was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested and no further action was taken. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. That night, Lou left the hotel and spent the night at Soho Roc House. MailOnline has approached Carroll and Teasdale's representatives for comment. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The pair began dating last year after he separated from his TOWIE star wife Billi Mucklow last September. Carroll and Mucklow called it quits divorce after two years of turbulent marriage, the footballer confirmed last year. Andy Carroll GB Bordeaux during the French National 2 football match Girondins de Bordeaux against Saint-Pryve Saint-Hilaire at the Matmut Atlantique stadium in Bordeaux South West of France on November 9, 2024 In 2022, their wedding was almost called off when Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out in bed with two women in Dubai on his stag do. Mucklow forgave him after one of the women insisted nothing sexual happened. Less than two years after their nuptials, the couple's marriage was over - with Carroll confirming they had started divorce proceedings after 'a hard few months for our family'. Carroll said in a statement at the time: 'Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings'. 'It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children.' Carroll and Mucklow have three children together Arlo, Wolf, and Marvel Mae and she also raises his two children Emilie Rose, 15, and Lucas, 14 from his past relationship.

Posh schoolboy who plotted suicide bomb attack on could walk free

Isa Ibrahim was educated at posh schools that cost his parents tens of thousands every year, but he spiralled out of control and was jailed after planning to bomb a shopping centre A posh schoolboy who once planned to kill people at a busy shopping centre could be out of jail soon. Andrew Michael, known as Isa Ibrahim, was jailed in 2009 when cops found he was plotting a suicide bombing at Bristol's Broadmead shopping centre only a 'matter of hours or days' before he carried out his awful planned attack. Authorities were tipped off by a member of the local muslim community about Ibrahim, who hoped to blow himself up with a suicide vest after he began to idolise the 7/7 bombers and Al-Qaeda monster Osama Bin Laden. Ibrahim would also watch speeches by Islamist militant leader Omar Bakri Muhammad and former Finsbury Park cleric Abu Hamza. ‌ ‌ But nearly 16 years after he was convicted at Winchester Crown Court in July 2009, Ibrahim could soon be released from jail. The Mail Online reported that Ibrahim, 36, is up for parole. 'We can confirm the parole review of Isa Ibrahim has been referred to the Parole Board by the Secretary of State for Justice and is following standard processes,' a Parole Board spokesperson said. ''Parole Board decisions are solely focused on what risk a prisoner could represent to the public if released and whether that risk is manageable in the community.' The spokesperson said a panel will 'carefully examine a huge range of evidence, including details of the original crime, and any evidence of behaviour change, as well as explore the harm done and impact the crime has had on the victims'. There are hundreds of pages of evidence set to be reviewed ahead of an oral hearing. The spokesperson added: 'Evidence from witnesses such as probation officers, psychiatrists and psychologists, officials supervising the offender in prison as well as victim personal statements may be given at the hearing. It is standard for the prisoner and witnesses to be questioned at length during the hearing which often lasts a full day or more. "Parole reviews are undertaken thoroughly and with extreme care. Protecting the public is our number one priority. 'A decision on Ibrahim's case is expected over coming weeks.' ‌ The son of Christian parents who lived in a Bristol mansion worth £1 million, Ibrahim had a lavish upbringing. His father, born in Egypt, was a consultant pathologist in the NHS and his older brother became a software engineer after graduating from Oxford. But despite the luxury lifestyle in the family's gated mansion in Frenchay, Bristol, Ibrahim developed a drug habit - he first took cannabis aged just 12 - and was expelled from three different private schools including the £19,065-a-year Colston's School and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital school which has fees of £9,885-a-year. The even pricier Roman Catholic Downside School in Bath, where Ibrahim was a boarder, cost his family £24,141-a-year. ‌ Eventually, Ibrahim managed to get good grades and received nine GCSEs while he was a pupil at the Bristol Cathedral School, which costs £7,500-a-year. Ibrahim then moved to be a student at the City of Bristol College. After his conversion to Islam, Ibrahim was sentenced to an indeterminate prison sentence with a minimum term of ten years when he was found guilty of making an explosive with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury and preparation of terrorist acts. ‌ He had made an explosive vest in his flat and also carried out surveillance of Broadmead. It was found that he hoped to achieve maximum damage using ball bearings and nails in his vest, purchasing the items he needed from high street shops. Thankfully, worried members of the Al-Baseera mosque in Bristol reported the injuries Ibrahim suffered from testing his explosives. They told police about their concerns over his extreme views and that he was acting suspiciously. It is understood to be the first time a potential terrorist was brought to justice by members of the muslim community playing a key role. Ibrahim was not on the radar of security services at the time. ‌ When police searched his home, the floor crackled under officers' feet because of the huge amount of explosive powder in his flat. Cops found Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine (HMTD) an explosive substance used in the 7/7 attacks, an incomplete suicide vest, films of Ibrahim testing the explosives and an electrical circuit capable of being used as a detonator. A controlled explosion had to be carried out at the flat, where a radical book advocating jihad was also found. Detective Chief Inspector Matt Iddon said Ibrahim's kitchen had become an 'explosive laboratory'. He said: 'He identified that the [Broadmead] food court was a dense area. It's full of families – husband, wives, children, groups of young friends – relaxing and enjoying the day. He intended to blow himself up there.' Trial judge Mr Justice Butterfield said Ibrahim was an 'angry young person' and said he was 'well capable' carrying out an attack. Ibrahim had said he did not intend to harm anyone, said he had trouble making friends and even talked to teddy bears as an adult.

'Drug dealer' killed mum-of-one after knocking her off e-bike with Land Rover

A driver has been found not guilty of murder after he hit and killed a woman and seriously injured her partner with his car. Keaton Muldoon hit 25-year-old Alana Armstrong and Jordan Newton-Kay with his Land Rover Discovery on a country lane in Pleasley, Derbyshire. The couple were riding on an electric motorbike together last November 26. Alana, a 25-year-old mum of one, died at the scene while her partner Jordan had his right leg amputated 15cm above the knee after the crash. Muldoon, 23, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving before his trial began. Muldoon, who the court heard was a drug dealer, told the jury he 'did not know' he had hit anyone with his car. He said he thought he'd overtaken Mr Newton-Kay's e-bike at a passing point. The prosecution claimed Muldoon 'pursued' the couple, as well as another electric bike ridden by one of Mr Newton-Kay's friends, after they stopped near his 4×4 in a lay-by. CCTV showed the Land Rover following both e-bikes before ramming into one of the bikes and driving away without stopping. But following a trial at Derby crown court he was found not guilty of murder and of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He also admitted lying to police, saying his uncle was in possession of the Land Rover at the time of the crash because he was 'scared' about the murder investigation. Muldoon had only recently become a father at the time of the crash and told the court: 'My head was all over, I didn't know what to think. 'I knew I wasn't going to see my children for a bit. I just had a newborn baby. I promised I would always be there.' A sentencing date for Muldoon has not yet been set. Speaking after the verdict, Detective Constable Stevie Barker said: 'Alana was just 25 when she died, leaving her son without his mum, and her family grieving the loss of a young woman who had so much life ahead of her. More Trending 'The consequences of Muldoon's behaviour on that night have led to the death of Alana and a lifetime of grief for her family. In addition, Jordan, the rider of the bike, also suffered life-changing injuries. 'He then didn't even have the decency to admit what he had done in interview, instead trying to put the blame on someone else. It was months later before he accepted that he was the driver of the vehicle. 'My thoughts – and those of all of the officers involved in this tragic case- remain with the families of Alana and Jordan.'
