
Farah Khan reveals weight loss strategy she has ‘been following for a long time': ‘Early dinner by 7.30'
Farah Khan recently spoke about losing weight in an episode on her food blog with actor-couple Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya. When asked about her weight transformation journey, Khan, 60, revealed that despite being fond of food, she had consciously decided to eat only twice a day. 'I try to eat only twice daily. Lunch and dinner. Early dinner by 7.30. Intermittent fasting. But been following for a long time. I had lost weight before Jhalak also,' Khan said, referring to the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 11, where she appeared as a judge in November 2023.
'You are looking very fresh,' complimented Vivek.
But is intermittent fasting a sustainable way to lose weight?
Dr Sukhvinder Singh Saggu, director, minimal access, GI and bariatric surgery, CK Birla Hospital (R), Delhi, noted that intermittent fasting, which involves concentrating your meals within a specific window during the day, typically between sunrise and sunset, is considered adequate for fat loss.
'This period aligns with when our digestive enzymes, insulin, and other metabolic processes are most active. Eating within this window is believed to promote better digestion, higher metabolism, and a healthier gut microbiome compared to eating late at night,' said Dr Saggu.
The last meal should be 2-3 hours before bedtime. 'This could involve a larger lunch and an early dinner before sunset,' said Dr Saggu.

Centre extends deadline for revised Schedule M implementation for small, medium pharmas
Mysuru: The Union govt has extended the deadline for implementing the revised Schedule M–Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)–for small and medium pharmaceutical enterprises (SMEs) with an annual turnover of Rs 250 crore or less, until the end of this year, said Khalid Ahmed Khan, deputy drug controller and president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Karnataka state branch. He was speaking at the inauguration of a national conference on 'Enhancing Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)' and a special session on the Revamped Pharmaceutical Technology Upgradation Assistance Scheme. The event was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) health committee in association with the department of pharmaceuticals, Union ministry of chemicals and fertilizers, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) and the IPA Mysuru branch, at the JSS College of Pharmacy on Wednesday. Khan noted that due to the financial burden involved in implementing the revised quality framework, MSME firms were granted time until Dec 2025 to comply. "Firms with turnover above Rs 250 crore, as well as all newly established plants, are required to adopt the revised Schedule M immediately. These guidelines are aligned with WHO and international standards and emphasise total quality management and robust pharmaceutical systems," he added. Khan stressed the importance of leadership and a quality-driven mindset in the pharmaceutical sector. "Even if you're not in a leadership position, you can influence those who are. Without quality, neither the industry nor its workforce can sustain," he said. Dr H Basavana Gowdappa, VC, JSS AHER, commended the department of pharmaceuticals for launching the RPTUAS and urged the industry to treat GMP not as a regulation but a fundamental responsibility. Amaresh Tumbagi, former drug controller of Karnataka, outlined the inspection mechanisms under the revised Schedule M and how regulatory processes have evolved. Dr Pramod Kumar TM, principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, provided insights into current industry regulations and compliance requirements. Jatin Nagpal, joint secretary, PHDCCI, Dharmendra Kumar Yadav, under secretary, department of pharmaceuticals, Yashwant Shinde, manager, SIDBI and Dr Savitha RS, secretary, IPA Mysuru local branch were also present.

Health News: More Women Opting to Freeze Eggs Amid Health, Lifestyle, and Career Challenges
Declining quality of life due to lifestyle changes and environmental factors is not only impacting overall health but also affecting fertility, especially at a later age. Considering this, more women today are exploring the option of freezing their eggs for having a healthy baby in the future. Shiba Vyas, a 28 years old software engineer, recently froze her eggs. 'I want to become a mother but in the future and not now. However, I came across information that the quality of eggs lessens with time. And aspects like the modern lifestyle that is full of junk food, smoking, and drinking alcohol affect eggs quality negatively. Hence, I decided to freeze my eggs,' she said. Vyas is not alone. More and more women, mostly from metro cities and working women, prefer to freeze their eggs for various reasons. What is egg freezing? Dr Rajendra Shitole, Clinical and Academic Head, DPU IVF and Endoscopy Centre (DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri), said, 'Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation technique that allows women to store their eggs at a younger age for future use. With shifting priorities and evolving lifestyles, more women today are choosing to delay motherhood—for education, career, or medical reasons.' Dr Bushra Khan, fertility specialist, says, 'Egg freezing is done for two reasons: social and medical. Social is when younger women want to delay their pregnancies. For healthy eggs, they store it. And medical is when women have cancer or other diseases. Before taking chemotherapy, they freeze their eggs as chemotherapy affects negatively on eggs. Women with a family history of early menopause also go for it. We receive 7-10 queries per month and 7-8 women opt for it per month,' said Dr Khan. The perfect time to freeze eggs The best time to freeze eggs is before 35, when egg quality is highest. The process involves hormonal stimulation for 10–12 days, followed by egg retrieval under mild sedation with a sonography machine. The mature eggs are then vitrified and stored for ten years safely in liquid nitrogen. 'Success depends on age at freezing and the number of eggs stored. Egg survival after freezing is almost 90% due modern vitrification techniques. With eggs frozen before 35, the chances of a healthy pregnancy can be up to 40–60% per embryo transfer. Research shows no increased risk of birth defects or developmental issues in children born from frozen eggs,' says Dr Shitole. Myths busted 'There are many myths around egg freezing. It is said that egg freezing guarantees future pregnancy. However, in reality, it increases the chances, but success still depends on several factors. Another myth is the procedure is unsafe. But in reality, it is well-established and minimally invasive,' said Dr Khan. According to both experts, this is not a new technique and has been used in western world for a long time. But now it is becoming popular in India, especially in metro cities. It costs Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh and is affordable for many middle-class families. Need of the hour Priyanka Khade (name changed), 27 years old working woman, recently tested with breast cancer. 'I want to become a mother for sure. Doctors counselled me about why I needed to freeze my eggs. And I realised that chemotherapy might reduce my chances to become a mother as egg quality gets reduced due to therapy. Hence, I decided to freeze my eggs.'
