Dortmund director confirms Jamie Gittens stance after failed Chelsea transfer
Chelsea are hoping to sign Jamie Gittens this summer, but Borussia Dortmund have so far rejected their advances and sporting director Sebastien Kehl has given an update
Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl has spoken out about Jamie Gittens' future after his move to Chelsea fell through before the Club World Cup. Gittens had agreed personal terms with the Blues and appeared to have his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge.
However, Dortmund rejected a £42million bid for the 20-year-old earlier this month as the Bundesliga side are holding out for a higher fee. As a result, Gittens has travelled with Dortmund to the Club World Cup and came off the bench in their opening game against Fluminense which ended 0-0.
And Dortmund sporting director Kehl has now lifted the lid on talks he held with Gittens in the aftermath of Chelsea's failed bid. "We've had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days," Kehl told Fussball Transfers, as per Sport Witness.
"He's professional enough to know he has to perform. That's also in his nature. Jamie will be important for us in this tournament. And we'll see what happens after that. But I don't see him as negative."
Discussions remain ongoing between the two clubs about a deal, with Chelsea keen to sign a new winger after Mykhailo Mudryk was charged by the Football Association over a failed drugs test.
Mudryk tested positive for a banned substance back in November and has not played for Chelsea since. The Blues are planning for life after Mudryk with the 24-year-old now facing a four-year ban and Gittens is their top target.
"We had already one entire season already without Mischa. We are going to decide to go for a winger," Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca confirmed. "In both cases, we have Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto as proper wingers, then we try to adapt with Tyrique George.
"It's a position we need to improve. I spoke with Mischa in Poland when we played the Conference League final [on May 28]. I didn't speak with him since that time. To be honest, I didn't see the news.
"They communicated to me last night. But there is nothing at the moment I can add because I don't have more information about that. The last time I spoke with Mischa, as I said, was in Poland and he was quite good.
"I didn't see him worried or at least I didn't see him not good. He was good, he was OK. Since that day I didn't speak with him, so I don't know how he is now. But for sure in the next days, and weeks we are going to have direct contact with him."

Timeline set for next 2 Liverpool transfers after completing Florian Wirtz deal
Florian Wirtz will not be Liverpool's final piece of transfer business with two more deals set to quickly be completed at Anfield as Arne Slot forms his squad for next season Liverpool have made the biggest splash of the summer transfer window so far with the confirmation of Florian Wirtz's arrival at Anfield. The transfer could see a British record fee paid with the package coming to £116million with add-ons included. Wirtz already has some lofty targets to complete with his team-mates. 'I would like to win everything every year! First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work," he said. 'In the end, we want to be successful. Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious.' With such ambition, it's no wonder the Reds have not been put off spending more in the coming days and weeks. Arne Slot has already seen the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield, and ex-Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Wirtz sees a significant increase in spending after completing his medical on Friday. But more business is set to be conducted in the coming days as Liverpool look to equip themselves with the ability to retain the Premier League title. Two deals could soon be completed: one in and one out. Milos Kerkez is expected to travel to Merseyside on Tuesday to undergo his medical after Liverpool agreed a £40m fee with Bournemouth. The full-back is set to come in and provide strong competition to Andy Robertson. Personal terms are already agreed for Dominik Szoboszlai's Hungary team-mate as the Premier League champions move to get another deal over the line. Kerkez's arrival could see Robertson mull a possible move to Atletico Madrid however. Wirtz's arrival may not have been Liverpool's final dealing with Bayer Leverkusen this summer either. Defender Jarell Quansah is closing in on a £35m move to the Bundesliga side. Reports suggest the transfer could be agreed in 24-48 hours with the former Bristol Rovers loanee having already offered his approval. Negotiations area already noted to be at their final stages. An exit for the young defender in the coming days could see the Reds move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. The ex-Chelsea youngster's deal is set to expire in 12 months time. A striker also remains a target for Liverpool, particularly if Darwin Nunez departs as expected. Newcastle ace Alexander Isak is among those admired but a deal would not be easy.

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton hopes to ‘live up to the legacy' of Mary Earps
Earps was instrumental in inspiring the Lionesses to their first major trophy on home turf in 2022, but had been slipping in boss Sarina Wiegman's favour behind 24-year-old Chelsea shot-stopper Hampton before announcing she would be stepping away from international football last month. Hampton felt her predecessor did not deserve the 'scrutiny' she experienced in the aftermath, but conceded she was 'not expecting' a reply to a congratulatory text she sent Earps, 32, after she made her shock decision public. living out the dream of a little girl from the Midlands who never stopped believing. proud to be representing my country at another major tournament🏴 — Hannah Hampton (@hannahhampton_) June 5, 2025 'We're going to miss her as a person here,' Hampton said. 'She's a big personality in this team and she glued us all together at times when we needed (her) to. 'So, I think it's been difficult for everyone to come to terms with what her decision is, but we have to respect that. And now I've got to just go and live up to her legacy. I'll give it my best shot for sure.' In April, Wiegman confirmed the younger keeper was 'a little bit ahead' of two-time FIFA Best winner Earps. 'First of all we have to obviously respect what (Earps') decision is,' said Hampton. 'I think there's been quite a bit of scrutiny that she probably doesn't deserve with everything that she's achieved in the game and obviously (she's) put women's goalkeeping on the map for the younger generation, aspiring to now be a goalkeeper. 'It was never really a thing and Mary's changed that. There's so many more young boys and girls taking part in goalkeeping, which was never the case when I was growing up. 'I think I've done everything I need to do. I've sent her a text and I congratulated her on a very successful international career and I think that's all I really can do. 'I don't think there's anything else and I'm not expecting anything back. She's been an unbelievable player.' Hampton has steadily risen up the ranks for both club and country since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2023. And ahead of England's Euros defence – which begins against France on July 5, she added: 'I think of it as just playing another game of football. 'There's not really much pressure that you can put on yourself. We're here as a big team. Mary Earps has today announced her decision to retire from international football with immediate effect. The decision marks the end of a memorable eight-year international career. ❤️ 🏴 — Lionesses (@Lionesses) May 27, 2025 'You'll get through the games as a big team, whether that was me starting or me on the sidelines supporting – you knew what your role was going to be for the whole of the summer. 'Just getting that bit of clarity already helps you prepare for whatever your role is. My role is different this time around compared to the last tournaments, but it's not going to change my mindset. 'I'm there to enjoy myself, do the nation proud with all the girls and get memories. I remember all the memories from the last World Cup and Euros and I cherish every single one of them, I just want to keep repeating that.'

Liverpool newcomer Florian Wirtz motivated to build on Leverkusen achievements
If achieved that would surpass the existing mark of £115m which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023 and it is understood Liverpool will be happy to pay these 'aspirational bonuses' as it will mean they have enjoyed considerable success at elite level. Florian Wirtz is a Red. — Liverpool FC (@LFC) June 20, 2025 And that is what Wirtz, one of Europe's hottest properties, is determined to contribute to. 'I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve,' he told the club's website. 'Of course I want to keep going at this performance. So yeah, that sure gives motivation to achieve more. 'I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work. In the end, we want to be successful. 'Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious.' "Thank you for the support" ❤️ Get the first words from Florian Wirtz after signing for Liverpool on All Red video 💻 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) June 20, 2025 Wirtz has signed a five-year deal and at 22 has his best years ahead of him. He wants to continue the progress which saw him score 57 goals and contribute 64 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen. 'This was also a big point for me: that I will improve my own personal level and physical levels because I think everyone knows that in Liverpool the players are machines – really strong and really physical,' he added. 'But I see this also as an opportunity for me to get better in this point. So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me.' Liverpool saw off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to secure Wirtz. Leverkusen had valued him at £126m but a compromise was reached last week, although the up-front fee easily outstrips the £85m deal Liverpool agreed with Benfica in 2022 for Darwin Nunez, who is expected to leave this summer. 'I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League,' he added. Jeremie Frimpong has also made the move from Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield (Peter Byrne/PA) Wirtz is Liverpool's second signing of the summer, following close friend and Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, and with the Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvilli joining next month after a deal was agreed a year ago spending has already reached £175m. That is set to be pushed beyond the £200m mark with a £40m fee agreed for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. It is their biggest summer window since 2018 when Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker were recruited for around £170m, with Virgil van Dijk having signed for £75m the previous January. Owners Fenway Sports Group have, despite their 'Moneyball' reputation, not been afraid to splash out big fees for transformative players like Van Dijk and Alisson – and Wirtz falls into that category. The club have already recouped around £26m with the departures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher with further funds expected to be generated from the likes of Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa and potentially Andy Robertson, who is a target for Atletico Madrid.
