Dortmund director confirms Jamie Gittens stance after failed Chelsea transfer
Chelsea are hoping to sign Jamie Gittens this summer, but Borussia Dortmund have so far rejected their advances and sporting director Sebastien Kehl has given an update Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl has spoken out about Jamie Gittens' future after his move to Chelsea fell through before the Club World Cup. Gittens had agreed personal terms with the Blues and appeared to have his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge. However, Dortmund rejected a £42million bid for the 20-year-old earlier this month as the Bundesliga side are holding out for a higher fee. As a result, Gittens has travelled with Dortmund to the Club World Cup and came off the bench in their opening game against Fluminense which ended 0-0. And Dortmund sporting director Kehl has now lifted the lid on talks he held with Gittens in the aftermath of Chelsea's failed bid. "We've had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days," Kehl told Fussball Transfers, as per Sport Witness. "He's professional enough to know he has to perform. That's also in his nature. Jamie will be important for us in this tournament. And we'll see what happens after that. But I don't see him as negative." Discussions remain ongoing between the two clubs about a deal, with Chelsea keen to sign a new winger after Mykhailo Mudryk was charged by the Football Association over a failed drugs test. Mudryk tested positive for a banned substance back in November and has not played for Chelsea since. The Blues are planning for life after Mudryk with the 24-year-old now facing a four-year ban and Gittens is their top target. "We had already one entire season already without Mischa. We are going to decide to go for a winger," Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca confirmed. "In both cases, we have Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto as proper wingers, then we try to adapt with Tyrique George. "It's a position we need to improve. I spoke with Mischa in Poland when we played the Conference League final [on May 28]. I didn't speak with him since that time. To be honest, I didn't see the news. "They communicated to me last night. But there is nothing at the moment I can add because I don't have more information about that. The last time I spoke with Mischa, as I said, was in Poland and he was quite good. "I didn't see him worried or at least I didn't see him not good. He was good, he was OK. Since that day I didn't speak with him, so I don't know how he is now. But for sure in the next days, and weeks we are going to have direct contact with him."

Dortmund provide update on Chelsea target Jamie Gittens after rejecting two bids
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl says Jamie Gittens' future is still uncertain, but the winger remains 'very important' to the team's success at the Club World Cup. Gittens reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea before flying out to the United States and is eager to push through a switch to Stamford Bridge once Dortmund's involvement at summer's tournament has concluded. However, the Blues have seen two separate offers knocked back by BVB for 20-year-old winger and discussions are ongoing behind the scenes with a view to finding a resolution as quickly as possible. Determined to get their man having already signed Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr, the west London giants are expected to return with a third bid for the England Under-21 international in due course. It's understood Dortmund are refusing to be intimidated by Chelsea, though, and will be holding out for a proposal worth in the region of £55m from the Europa Conference League winners. 'We've had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,' BVB chief Kehl said following the side's goalless draw with Fluminense at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. 'He's professional enough to know that he has to perform. That's part of his nature. 'Jamie will still be very important for us in this tournament. We'll see what happens after that. 'But I don't have a negative opinion of him.' Gittens started on the substitutes bench against Fluminense on Tuesday and was unable to make the difference after being sent on in place of Julian Brandt in the 77th minute. Niko Kovac could be tempted to mix up his starting XI when Dortmund return to action in Group F against South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. Kehl reassured Dortmund fans that he was ploughing ahead with transfer business while away with Kovac and his squad in the States. 'My alarm clock goes off very, very early in the day,' he explained. 'Of course, I try to keep to European time and get my homework done before the team's breakfast and routines here.' More Trending The former Dortmund midfielder is 'confident' the club can return to winning ways this weekend after dropping points in their opening Club World Cup contest. 'We have to deliver in the next game. We have to improve,' Kehl continued. 'The game showed us that we have to stretch ourselves. 'I'm very confident that we'll do better in the next two games.' Chelsea sent message by Dortmund over failed Jamie Gittens transfer
Borussia Dortmund have left the door open for Chelsea to make another attempt to sign Jamie Gittens this summer. Chelsea held advanced talks with Dortmund over a deal for the 20-year-old before the transfer window closed on Tuesday night. But after Chelsea's initial €35 million (£29.5m) bid was rejected, their follow up offer of €50m (£42.2m) was also turned down by the Bundesliga side. It's understood that Dortmund were holding out for a €65m (£54.9m) fee for Gittens, who has now been named in their Club World Cup squad. Dortmund will play Brazilian side Fluminense, South Korea's Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in Group F. However, Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admits an agreement with Chelsea for Gittens could be reached after the tournament. 'There was contact with Chelsea, who got in touch again yesterday afternoon,' Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten. 'We spoke again on the phone. In the end, we were unable to reach an agreement because we have different ideas about the player's current value. 'We're happy that Jamie will now be at the Club World Cup and are pleased that he's staying. More Trending 'We examined it very seriously, but in the end, we also made a decision for ourselves. 'But it's still absolutely fine that Chelsea made this attempt. And again, we're in good dialogue. We'll see how things develop in the future.' Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign begins against Los Angeles FC on June 16. Enzo Maresca's side will then play Flamengo on June 20 before their final Group D game against ES Tunis on June 25.
