Report: Germany star Wirtz flies to England for Liverpool medical
Germany's Florian Wirtz (L) and France's Manu Kone stand on the pitch after the UEFA Nations League soccer match between Germany and France at Stuttgart Arena. Federico Gambarini/dpa Germany star Florian Wirtz has flown to England to carry out his medical ahead of his big-money transfer to Liverpool, according to reports in German media. The Bild newspaper said a private plane took off from Cologne airport on Thursday afternoon to take the 22-year-old to Manchester, from where he will be driven to Liverpool to complete his signing from Bayer Leverkusen. Advertisement The deal for the young forward could be worth up to €150 million ($172 million) including bonuses, making Wirtz the most expensive signing in Bundesliga and Premier League history. Only Paris Saint-German's moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have ever carried a higher transfer fee. Wirtz is expected to sign a contract with the Reds until 2030. The German international had been a major target for top European clubs, including Leverkusen's Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, but the attacking midfielder is set to land with the Premier League champions.

Liverpool set price as Erik ten Hag eyes Liverpool swoop to replace Bayern star
Liverpool are braced for a bid for Jarell Quansah after Bayer Leverkusen made their interest in the Reds defender clear. But the Merseysiders will want around £40m to part with the defender. The two clubs have been locked in talks for weeks over a record £116m deal for Germany star Florian Wirtz, who will undergo his medical on Merseyside on Friday. Any deal for Quansah would be separate to that and talks will continue after the Wirtz deal is finalised rather than hold up that transfer. Liverpool would be reluctant sellers of Quansah, 22, who is currently with England's U21s at the European Championships. They have been monitoring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who they could move for if Quansah was to leave. Guehi is out of contract at Selhurst Park next summer but is also of interest to Newcastle. Quansah signed a new contract last season and is very much admired among the Reds staff but he also wants to play more after falling down the pecking order at Anfield. Leverkusen are looking to replace Jonathan Tah, who left to join Bayern Munich and new boss Erik ten Hag is a fan of Quansah. The Bundesliga club would hope to negotiate a lower fee than £40m and would hope their dealings with the Reds may help talks. Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk, who signed a two-year deal, and Ibrahima Konate, who is entering the last 12 months of his contract, as centre-back options with Joe Gomez's future also in doubt. That would mean should Quansah move then Liverpool are likely to bring in a centre-back with Guehi a player of interest. Any more incoming transfers are likely to be put on pause this summer for the time being following a lucrative window. Jeremie Frimpong arrived from Leverkusen for a fee of £35m, while Wirtz' own arrival will see Liverpool smash their transfer record. Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez also appears to be on the verge of becoming a Liverpool player according to his dad and agent Sebastijan. Speaking on Super Indirektno, he said: 'It's only Liverpool for us and we're not going anywhere else and we won't talk to other clubs. Everything is done between us (personal terms) we just need to sort out some details but it's basically a done deal." Should Liverpool sell Jarell Quansah this summer? Share your thoughts in the comments below Liverpool are expected to pay around £45m for the Hungarian. Meanwhile, Quansah is not the only star to have been linked with an exit this summer. Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Andrew Robertson are all potentially candidates to leave over the coming months. Florian Wirtz arrives in England for Liverpool medical ahead of £116m move
Florian Wirtz has landed in England for his Liverpool medical ahead of a British record £116m move to the club. Liverpool came to a verbal agreement with Bayer Levekusen on Wednesday evening after seeing three bids turned down, with a fourth and final offer worth an initial £100m plus add-ons being accepted. He landed at Manchester Airport this afternoon, from where he will travel to Merseyside to finalise a deal, with a medical penned in for Friday. Wirtz also attracted attention from Bayern Munich but told the German champions he wanted to go to Liverpool and agreed personal terms with the club two weeks ago. The new English champions are believed to have impressed him with their plan while Manchester City, who also showed an interest, switched their focus to Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan and Lyon's Rayan Cherki. Wirtz smashes Liverpool's transfer record as well as edging the wider British record, which is currently held by Moises Caicedo 's £115m switch to Chelsea. The Reds have previously paid £75m for Virgil van Dijk and £64m, rising to £85m, for Darwin Nunez. Wirtz, who found the net for Germany against Portugal in the Nations League last week, has scored 34 goals in the last two seasons for Leverkusen, helping them win a first league title in 2023/24 across an unbeaten domestic season, when he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year. Having always been touted as one of Germany's next big things, his supersonic rise to prominence over the past couple seasons comes after a suffering a detrimental ACL injury in 2022, which saw him out of action for 266 days. They are also in talks with Bournemouth, who want £45m for left-back Milos Kerkez, and could commit almost £200m to new signings within a few weeks.

Bayer Leverkusen discussing potential Jarell Quansah signing with Liverpool
The 22-year-old defender, who only signed a new five-year contract in October, is fourth-choice centre-back at Anfield despite starting the first match of last season. Quansah is currently at the European Championship with England Under-21s and earlier this week said: 'I'm in a very good position to take the next step.' Negotiations are at an early stage and are not linked to Liverpool's club-record deal for the Bundesliga side's playmaker Florian Wirtz, whose arrival in a potential £115million deal could be announced as early as Friday.
