Gulden hurt against Suns in big blow for Swans
Errol Gulden is the latest star AFL player to be hurt in the pre-season, with the Sydney midfielder suffering an ankle injury early in the Swans' match against Gold Coast.
The dual All Australian was tackled by Will Graham at People First Stadium on Friday night and his ankle twisted awkwardly under him.
Gulden was in agony as trainers helped him from the ground.

Already on Friday, Port Adelaide confirmed Zak Butters is out for at least six weeks after knee surgery and Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli will have a similar spell because of his calf muscle injury.
Suns key position player Mac Andrew also came off second-best in a marking contest at the start of the game and was forced out after barely a minute. He is suspected to have a rib injury.
Swans captain Callum Mills (foot) will miss their opening round home match next Friday against Hawthorn, while ruckman Brodie Grundy is in doubt with a knee injury.
Several Sydney stars were rested for the Gold Coast game, including Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner and Dane Rampe.
The Swans made a fast start, kicking the first four goals and leading by 10 points at quarter time.

Roosters' stance on Daly Cherry-Evans unchanged
The Sydney Roosters remain keen on pursuing Daly Cherry-Evans despite his axing from the State of Origin set-up and the emergence of their own young halves. It comes as coach Trent Robinson reveals all five of his State of Origin representatives will back up for Saturday's match against North Queensland, who are resting Reuben Cotter and Reece Robson. The Roosters shaped as the front-runners for Cherry-Evans's signature after the premiership-winning halfback confirmed 2025 would be his 15th and final season at Manly. Since then, Cherry-Evans has been dropped as Queensland captain and endured patchy form for an out-of-sorts Manly side fighting to keep pace with the top eight. The Roosters, meanwhile, have unearthed an out-and-out first-grader in rookie halfback Hugo Savala and also have highly rated Sam Walker signed through 2027. Sandon Smith has proven a capable back-up playmaker too, particularly impressive in a big Anzac Day win over St George Illawarra. The Roosters have held preliminary talks with Cherry-Evans but the 36-year-old has indicated his immediate focus is on the 2025 season, not finalising his future. Robinson previously endorsed the club's pursuit of Cherry-Evans and has not changed his position amid the events of recent months. "Nothing has moved, we haven't had any discussions or anything like that. But there hasn't been any difference on what I said last time either," he said. "We said he's going to wait so we've just been getting on with our business until that time." Cherry-Evans has been instrumental in big wins over Penrith and Brisbane in recent months but most recently struggled to ignite the side in a 28-8 thrashing from last-placed Gold Coast. Robinson has been unconcerned over public commentary surrounding Cherry-Evans's form this season. "That hasn't been a discussion for us," he said. The coach sees a world where all four of Cherry-Evans, Savala, Walker and Smith can co-exist at the club next season. Savala's preferred position is in the halves but his 194cm frame makes him a candidate for opportunities in the back row or outside backs. Smith, meanwhile, was a regular on the bench before five-eighth Luke Keary left the club in the most recent off-season. "We're in a good spot, I feel like we're developing really well," Robinson said. "We want to keep pushing forward in being the best team that we can be. There's no wavering on what I said (about wanting to pursue Cherry-Evans) but that time will come." The Cowboys will have Queensland duo Jeremiah Nanai and Tom Dearden on deck as they fight to bounce back from their 58-4 hiding at the hands of the Dolphins last week. But NSW hooker Robson and Maroons forward Cotter will be given extra time to rest following the Maroons' 26-24 game-two win on Wednesday. "(They're) just carrying a couple of niggles that we don't want to make worse, given that we've got a long road ahead," said coach Todd Payten.

Not done yet: Titans eyeing late run at finals
Gold Coast stars AJ Brimson and Kieran Foran insist the last-placed side can still make a late run and contend for finals with one proviso. The Titans, who play Parramatta away on Sunday night, have also had good news on their two State of Origin representatives Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa'asuamalaeaui. Both middle forwards travelled to Sydney on Saturday to join the team and are set to play the Eels. Fa'asuamaleaui had a sternum complaint he took into Queensland's 26-24 win over NSW in Perth, but is determined to play Parramatta so long as there is no late complication. Brimson was man of the match in last week's 28-8 win over Manly playing at fullback. It was easily the Titans' best win of the year with 11 players unavailable - two to Origin and nine injured. The Titans play North Queensland at home next week and then have the bye. Brimson said it was vital the side string back-to-back wins together, starting with Parramatta, so as to have a crack at a late run to the finals. "We are planning on (the Manly win) not being a one-off. We think this is what we have been capable of for weeks," he said. "You enjoy every win when you are on the bottom. We are trying to put together some wins to finish off the year and see where we can go with it. "After a short turnaround and as outsiders that was a good team performance. "We spoke about taking the shackles off because we enjoy playing footy and that was Titans footy … backing ourselves and playing eyes-up footy. "We are back on track with the way we want to play. We have got Parramatta and we are not getting ahead of ourselves." Veteran Foran also had his best game of the season at No.6 and said the Titans were capable of figuring in September. "I still believe we can," he said. "I've always maintained we've got a great footy side here. "The first part of the season hasn't gone to plan on the back of some disappointing performances. "We've got to reset and go again. It's a block at a time. If we do that, you never know. "We've got to go step by step." In other Titans team news, boom back-rower David Fifita, named as 18th man, won't return this week after ankle surgery but is close to making a comeback. Parramatta are also at the bottom of the ladder and will be without halves Dylan Brown (suspended) and Mitchell Moses (injured). Their places will be taken by debutant Joash Papalii and Dean Hawkins.

Fans fume over Benji Marhsall's bizarre snub of young gun as Galvin issue answered
Benji Marshall has hit back at reporters after opting to leave Tallyn Da Silva as an unused sub on the bench in the loss to the Raiders after reports emerged the young gun has been granted permission to negotiate with other clubs. Although the Wests Tigers may have found the long-term NRL answer to Lachlan Galvin's role with Latu Fainu having his best game in the jersey. On Friday, the reported he's been granted permission to negotiate with rival clubs and is free to walk early if he can secure a deal. The 20-year-old talent stuck behind Api Koroisau at the Tigers and has played 23 first-grade games since his debut in 2023, and looks every bit an NRL-level player. But he's spent the majority of 2025 in reserve-grade due to the fact the Tigers have Koroisau entrenched as their No.9. Da Silva is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2026, but The Tigers had already stated the 20-year-old was free to leave if they extend Koroisau's current contract (also ending at the end of 2026). Da Silva was brought back into the Tigers fold on Friday night against the Raiders with Marshall set to use him off the bench. However, Marshall opted to leave Da Silva on the bench for the whole 80 minutes. The timing of the snub left Tigers fans confused. Despite trailing 16-0 at half-time, the Tigers made a comeback but needed some energy in the final 10 minutes. Although Da Silva was nowhere to be seen with Marshall feeling like the experience of Koroisau was more important. When Marshall was asked about his decision to leave Da Silva sitting as an unused substitute in the cold all night, the coach hit back. 'We needed to cover for (starting hooker) Api (Koroisau) as well, if he needed a spell, but the game's in the balance, you want your best players on the field,' Marshall said. 'If there was an opportunity to put Tallyn on, I would have, but we needed Api on the field.' When pushed on whether the young gun was leaving the club, Marshall played it coy. "Not sure," he replied. Fans have already admitted they would like Da Silva to stay beyond his current contract. But the decision to leave him on the bench in yet another Tigers loss left fans perplexed and frustrated with Marshall's coaching. There were plenty of concerns when Galvin left the club with the Tigers' attack set to take a hit with the playmaker joining the Bulldogs. However, Fainu showed why many were fine to see Galvin leave with the young star showing plenty of promise in his return from injury. Jarome Luai was strong in the second-half for the Tigers and combined well with Fainu to send Starford To'a for a try. Fainu started on the bench, but came on played 53 minutes at five-eighth. He ran for 108 metres and made 16 tackles, but it was his creativity that had viewers impressed with the youngster. Former Broncos coach Kevin Walters claimed Fainu: "Changed the whole way the Tigers were playing." While Greg Alexander admitted: "They could't tackle him, he was a handful.' This is promising signs for Marshall going forward, but the Tigers now drop well outside the top eight with a tough game against the Manly Sea Eagles next week at Brookvale Oval.
