Chhattisgarh: Woman Maoist killed in Kanker encounter
A woman Maoist was gunned down in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Friday morning, the police said in a statement.
With this, 213 Maoists have been killed in the state's Bastar region since January, officials said.
Police said that a gunfight broke out in a forested hill, within the jurisdiction of the Chhotebethiya police station, when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) was out on an anti-Naxal operation.
The police said that the operation was launched between Amatola and Kalpar villages based on inputs about the presence of the members of banned Maoist outfits on the other side of the Kotri river.
After the firing stopped, the body of a Naxalite woman, along with a weapon, was recovered from the site of the encounter.
'The operation is still underway,' the police statement added.

AGTF seizes poppy husk worth 1.5cr near Chaksu
Jaipur: The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) seized nearly 1,000 kg of poppy husk valued at around Rs 1.5 crore during a highway checkpoint operation near Chaksu Friday. The consignment was reportedly being smuggled from Jharkhand and was intended for distribution in Rajasthan. ADG (Crime) Dinesh MN said that acting on a tip-off about a truck transporting a large quantity of illegal substances, the AGTF, working in coordination with Chaksu police, set up a checkpoint along a rain-soaked stretch of the highway. As officers moved in, the truck driver, sensing he was being tailed, abandoned the vehicle and fled, using the heavy downpour as cover. Senior officials said the container was packed tightly with poppy husk, concealed in a manner meant to evade detection. The seizure was made during a thorough inspection of the vehicle after it was secured by police. Investigators traced the truck's registration and launched a probe to identify the driver and uncover the larger network involved in the smuggling operation. A police officer said that the banned substance originated in Jharkhand. "It is still under investigation where exactly in Rajasthan the poppy husk was to be delivered," he said. The rain surrounding the highway made the search for the driver difficult, but police teams continue efforts to track him down. "It has come up during preliminary investigation that only the driver was in the truck. There was no helper," said the officer.

Cop seeking ‘pending bribe' from former bootlegger held
Ahmedabad: A constable posted at the Khedbrahma police station in Sabarkantha district was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a former bootlegger in a case linked to release of vehicles seized during a liquor raid. The accused, Vikas Patel, an unarmed police constable, was arrested on Thursday. According to the ACB, the complainant, a former bootlegger who claimed to have quit the liquor business in Nov 2024, has alleged that he was was being harassed for 'pending bribe' by Patel. The issue escalated after the complainant and his two associates were detained by the Sabarkantha special operations group (SOG) on May 17, and their three scooters were confiscated. Despite paying fines in court, they were unable to retrieve their vehicles. Upon visiting the police station, they were informed that Patel had the keys and registration documents and was unwilling to return them allegedly without a bribe. Patel allegedly demanded Rs 1.65 lakh but later agreed to release the scooters for Rs 1 lakh. Human trafficker arrested in Tripura's Sepahijala district
A human trafficker was arrested at Dudhpukur under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala district today. The arrested person was identified as Sharif Miah, resident of Dudhpukur. He was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, local police and Border Security Force. 'He was wanted in a case. We conducted raid at his house many times, but he was absconding. We came to know that he is currently at his home and conducted a joint operation to arrest him. We produced him to the court today and sought police remand for him', said officer in-charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das. In the preliminary interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case, however, police are investigating to find out whether he had any involvement in other cases, the police official added. Few days ago, Two persons including one Bangladeshi national and an Indian human trafficker were arrested from two separate places in Tripura. A series of arrests of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons have come in different parts of Tripura, especially at Agartala Railway Station.
