BBC commissions documentary about TV chef Heston Blumenthal's bipolar diagnosis
The English restaurateur, 58, who presented Channel 4 shows Heston's Fantastical Food and Heston's Feasts, was sectioned following a manic episode and given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder in November 2023.
The hour-long film, Heston: My Life With Bipolar, follows the aftermath of the chef's diagnosis as he explores the mental health condition and rebuilds his life.

The film will also explore the state of bipolar care in the UK as Blumenthal meets people to hear about their experiences and the challenges they face.
Blumenthal said: 'It took me 50 years to get a diagnosis, so it's been an extraordinary journey to get where I am today.
'There is still a big stigma around bipolar, but it is vital to be able to talk openly about the condition. I know this isn't always easy, but I hope by sharing my experience in this documentary people will gain a greater understanding of bipolar and an insight into my life now.'
Since his diagnosis, the TV personality, who has has been awarded seven Michelin stars over the course of his career, has become an ambassador for Bipolar UK, which describes the condition as an episodic disorder characterised by sometimes extreme changes in mood and energy which has the highest risk of suicide of any mental health condition.
Mike Radford, executive producer, said: 'This is the first time Heston has given his account of what happened for a documentary. We're grateful to Heston for giving such a raw and unfiltered view of his life with this condition, which we know impacts the lives of so many people.'

Filmed over six months, the film will include testimonies from Blumenthal and some of those closest to him about how his undiagnosed bipolar disorder affected his life and the challenges he faces undergoing long-term treatment for the condition, including its impact on his creativity and energy levels.
The chef, best known for his experimental dishes including snail porridge and bacon and egg ice cream, has previously said that the medication he has been taking for bipolar initially dulled his culinary imagination.
The film captures Blumenthal as he continues on his journey back to health and running his renowned restaurant, The Fat Duck, which has been awarded three Michelin stars.
The film is set to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Thursday June 19.

Gordon Ramsay reveals moment he 'collapsed' while holding his son for the first
Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the alarming moment he fainted during the birth of his fifth child, Oscar. The TV chef, 58, recalled the scary moment with a few chuckles in hindsight while appearing on a recent podcast. The Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares star was not present in the delivery room for the arrival of his first four children – Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 25, and Tilly, 23 – at the request of his wife Tana, 50. 'Let's make one thing absolutely clear, my wife didn't want me in there,' Gordon explained on SmartLess podcast. 'First of all, [Tana] said, 'I want my mum and your mum in there, you're not going to see me in that state, that side of the curtain, get out of there.' That was her decision and I had to respect that decision. Talking about the arrival of Oscar in 2019, Gordon said: 'When I did finally arrive in the theatre for our fifth baby I collapsed like a wimp! I blacked out holding Oscar in the air.' Gordon explained how Oscar arrived via C-section – or 'through the sunroof,as he put it. The TV chef was then asked what song he wanted to listen to. 'There was a lot of commotion going on,' Gordon recalled, 'I said, 'Can you play Ed Sheeran?' so they started playing Ed. They turned up the volume. The pair kept Tana's pregnancy with Jesse tightly under wraps until his arrival, with the mum-of-six taking to social media after he was born revealing they'd endured a 'nerve-wracking 9 months'. Woman breaks down in tears at 'uncomfortable' sex party with boyfriend
A woman who asked her boyfriend for an open relationship has broken down in tears at a sex party on Channel 4's controversial new show. Tonight's latest instalment of Open House: The Great Sex Experiment sees newly married couple Sharmayne, 26, and Jamie, 29, from Essex push the boundaries in their relationship. The pair can be seen heading to their first social event to see whether they can find anyone suitable to join them in their open relationship. After speaking as a couple to some of the people in the Open House, the pair then split up and mingle individually. However, moments after Sharmayne sees Jamie flirting with other women, she grabs his arm and tells him that she wants to 'step out'.
