Lizzo Says Her Relationship with Her Boyfriend Was Like a 'Friends-to-Lovers Trope': 'We Had This Crazy Bond for Years'
The Grammy winner appeared on the Thursday, May 15, episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, and spoke briefly about her relationship with Myke Wright
She revealed how their relationship was first platonic before becoming romantic
'I do love that we were friends first," she confessed to the podcast hostLizzo is opening up about her and her boyfriend Myke Wright's relationship history.
On the Thursday, May 15, episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane, the Grammy winner, 37, spoke about her relationship with boyfriend Myke Wright and how they first met nearly a decade ago.
Towards the end of the episode, the Truth Hurts singer and podcast host were 'prescribing' advice to listeners, and were asked about two friends making the jump from platonic to romantic. As they continued to dish out their opinions, Lizzo revealed that she and her boyfriend first met as friends, telling Shane, 25, 'I had a friends-to-lovers trope.'
'We both worked on this one TV show, [Wonderland], for MTV. I was the music girl, he was the comedy guy,' she began. 'I was just like, 'He's my best friend.' I didn't have any guy friends like that — well, I did because you know I'm in the music industry. But I was like 'Wow, I can really talk to him.' '
'We had this crazy bond for years,' she continued. 'I do love that we were friends first, so that means we can talk about anything.'
'He's your best friend,' Shane replied.
'Literally,' agreed the 'Good As Hell' singer. She then confessed, 'That is low-key like a fantasy. Right? It's like a 'Book-Tok' dream to be like, 'Oh my God, like he was my best friend.' '
Lizzo and Wright confirmed their romance in April 2022 — after Andy Cohen accidentally 'outed' their relationship when she appeared on his radio show that month. Two months later, they made their red carpet debut at a "For Your Consideration" event for her Watch Out for the Big Grrrls Amazon Prime Video reality.

Months later, in a December 2022 interview on The Howard Stern Show, she spoke about the evolution of their relationship, saying that they're 'not playing any games with each other anymore.'
'We're very much locked in,' she said. "I had a lot of s--- to do, and I still was very much in my 'I feel un-loveable' place, and I still was very much not where I wanted to be career-wise," she said at the time.
"Even if a person came around that I was googly gaga about, I had these wild defenses up that made it almost impossible for a true, intimate relationship to occur," the singer said.

There's no point in stressing out over speculation and rumors regarding Lizzo — she's an open book. On a June 19 episode of the Just Trish podcast, Lizzo admitted that she tried Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs, which are used to regulate type 2 diabetes and obesity, at one point in her "weight release" journey. Over the years, the "Truth Hurts" singer has been rather forthcoming with her fitness journey, documenting it on social media and sharing her progress with her fanbase. "I tried everything," she told Trisha Paytas. "Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full. But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same item." In her opinion, the "fake sugar and weird shit" in processed foods was holding her back, causing her to eat 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. "When I started actually eating whole foods and eating, like, beef and chicken and fish," she said, "I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn't actually filling me up."
