99 arrested in Immigration raids on Kuantan nightspots
KUANTAN: A total of 99 foreign nationals, 85 of them women, were arrested in Immigration Department raids on entertainment premises here early Sunday (June 15).
Pahang Immigration director Nursafariza Ihsan said they were among 369 individuals rounded up in the operation that began at 1am.
She said those arrested involved Thai, Lao, Bangladeshi, Yemeni and Chinese nationals aged between 25 and 50, while most of the foreign women arrested worked as guest relations officers (GROs).
Customers would book their time through various platforms, including the WeChat application.
"Those arrested are suspected of misusing their work permits because, after checks, we found that most of them were permit holders in the construction and cleaning sectors, while some only had social visit passes,' she said when contacted.

Chinese student jailed for 24 years for raping women in UK and China

Zhenhao Zou, 28, who lived in south London, used online platforms and dating apps to meet women, inviting them to his home under the pretext of having drinks or studying before he drugged them. He then filmed himself raping and sexually assaulting the women while they were unconscious, keeping some of their jewellery and clothing afterwards. Zou was found guilty in March of 28 offences, including 11 counts of rape, after a trial at Inner London Crown Court. At Thursday's sentencing he was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 24 years, minus time he had already spent in custody. Judge Rosina Cottage said Zou was "a highly manipulative and intelligent young man who gave no thought at all of the wishes and feelings of the women" he attacked. Detective Inspector Richard MacKenzie from London's Metropolitan Police said outside court: "The sheer scale of his offending, which spanned two countries, makes him one of the most prolific predators we have ever seen." The police previously said detectives believe there may be more than 50 other women who may have been victims of Zou and have not yet been identified. Originally from Dongguan in Guangdong Province, the student is thought to have moved to the United Kingdom in 2017 and began studying for a PhD at University College London in 2019. After a woman came forward to report Zou, police said they found drugs and hidden cameras in his home, while hundreds of videos and millions of messages on his laptops and phones showed that he had committed offences not just in Britain but in his homeland. -- Reporting by Sam Tobin/Reuters

Cops probe Singapore-registered car for driving against traffic
JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating an incident involving a Singapore-registered vehicle travelling against traffic at Km55 of the Senai–Desaru Expressway yesterday. Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman said that the incident is believed to have occurred at around 11.31am yesterday, and a 12-second video was subsequently uploaded to the 'Community Roda Johor' Facebook page. "The white vehicle with the registration number SNT4298 was recorded driving against the traffic, endangering other road users," he said in a statement today, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. He urged those with additional information about the incident to contact Traffic Enforcement Officer Insp Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at 017-479 3329 to assist in the investigation. "Police advise all road users always to stay vigilant and obey traffic laws for the safety of everyone," he added. – Bernama
