Suspected human trafficker held in Tripura
Agartala: Government Railway Police (GRP), in collaboration with BSF and Tripura Police, arrested a suspected human trafficker on Friday, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee. The arrested man has been identified as Sharif Mia (42), a resident of Dudhpukur Mosque in Sepahijala district. Police said the accused was taken into custody. Mia was produced in a Sonamura court, seeking his remand for further interrogation. A special investigation team is currently interrogating Mia, and initial findings suggest that more people from the region could be linked to the case. According to reports, a human trafficking racket has been actively involved in the cross-border movement of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals to different Indian cities.

Human trafficker arrested in Tripura's Sepahijala district
A human trafficker was arrested at Dudhpukur under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala district today. The arrested person was identified as Sharif Miah, resident of Dudhpukur. He was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, local police and Border Security Force. 'He was wanted in a case. We conducted raid at his house many times, but he was absconding. We came to know that he is currently at his home and conducted a joint operation to arrest him. We produced him to the court today and sought police remand for him', said officer in-charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das. In the preliminary interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case, however, police are investigating to find out whether he had any involvement in other cases, the police official added. Few days ago, Two persons including one Bangladeshi national and an Indian human trafficker were arrested from two separate places in Tripura. The trafficker, resident of Chanipur in West Tripura district was arrested during joint operation conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) , Border Security Force (BSF), local police station and other sister agencies. A series of arrests of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons have come in different parts of Tripura, especially at Agartala Railway Station. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested from January 1, 2024 till February 28 this year. Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, recently informed that 2815 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the Indo-Bangla border into Tripura from 2022 to October 31, 2024, out of which 1746 have been pushed back to their country of origin and 1069 others are housed in jail custody, temporary detention centers, shelter homes or are out on bail. Tripura shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes.

China, Pakistan, Bangladesh hold inaugural trilateral ministerial meet
China, Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to advance cooperation based on the principles of good-neighbourliness, equality and mutual trust at the inaugural trilateral meeting of their foreign ministry officials. In his address, Sun Weidong said Bangladesh and Pakistan are both good neighbours, good friends, and good partners of China, and important partners in high quality Belt and Road cooperation, the Foreign Ministry's press release said. Yunus has also sought to establish close ties with Pakistan, reviving for the first-time Bangladesh's links with Pakistan after the separation following the 1971 war. The Chinese press release said the three countries have agreed to advance trilateral cooperation based on the principles of good-neighbourliness, equality and mutual trust, openness and inclusiveness, common development, and win-win cooperation during the meeting in Kunming. The trilateral cooperation focuses on promoting economic development and improving people's livelihoods. The three sides agreed to explore and implement cooperation projects in such areas as industry, trade, maritime affairs, water resources, climate change, agriculture, human resources, think tanks, health, education, culture, and youth, it said. In Kunming, Sun also called on Haji Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of the interim government of Afghan, and held bilateral meetings with Ruhul Alam Siddique and Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. A Pakistan Foreign Ministry press release said Baloch commended the Chinese side for convening the inaugural meeting of the trilateral mechanism. Noting the common aspirations of the three sides for people-centric development, she expressed Pakistan's desire for a deeper engagement between China and South Asian countries. Expressing satisfaction at the upward trajectory of bilateral ties, she conveyed Pakistan's readiness to work with China and Bangladesh to enhance ties in trade and investment, agriculture, digital economy, environment protection, marine sciences, green infrastructure, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges. The three sides agreed that trilateral cooperation would be guided by the principles of openness, inclusivity, good neighbourliness, mutual respect and trust, while working towards win-win cooperation, it said.

China holds first trilateral meeting with Pakistan and Bangladesh
