Following his departure from Platinum Games, Hideki Kamiya announced his new studio, 'Clovers,' back in December at The Game Awards 2024, alongside the news that the studio would be teaming up with Capcom to release a follow-up to the cult classic Okami. During Kamiya's original tenure at Capcom, he worked closely with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami at Capcom Production Studio 4, which resulted in him directing Resident Evil 2 and the original version of Resident Evil 4 – which turned into Devil May Cry. Despite the two not having been under the same roof since Mikami finished work on Vanquish in 2010, Kamiya still uses the Resident Evil creator as a source of inspiration years later.
Speaking to Game*Spark (translated by Automaton Media), Kamiya says that Mikami's teachings from his time at Capcom directly impact how he teaches his staff today. "I don't tell the staff, 'This is what Mikami-san would say,' every step of the way," he says. "But in the course of developing games up to now, I have always made decisions based on his teachings, and I have shared them with the production team.
"Back then, we used to call what Mikami taught us the 'spirit of the 4th.'" Kamiya says, adding, "The reason I left PlatinumGames was because the company's way of thinking was gradually shifting towards a modern model of game development that doesn't place importance on the creators' individuality," presumably referencing Platinum's shift to live-service titles like Babylon's Fall (with Kamiya's Project G.G. allegedly being turned into a live-service title during development). Kamiya felt so strongly about this that he didn't care if leaving Platinum marked the end of his creating games, saying, "even if it meant the end of my career as a creator, I couldn't allow myself to kill my soul in order to work in an environment that I didn't agree with."
The Mikami-led Capcom Production Studio 4 was a bastion of creativity at Capcom, giving us the likes of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Killer 7, and this is something that has followed Kamiya throughout his career. Clover Studio – despite only sticking around for three years – made the wild trio of Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and God Hand. The name Clover Studio was an abbreviation of 'creativity lover,' with Kamiya taking that one step (or three steps) further with Clovers, which the director says stands for "Creativity," "Challenge," "Craftsmanship," and "our 4th C…" on the Clovers website.Despite being happy to leave Platinum Games in the past, Kamiya recently said he would love to take another crack at making the canceled Microsoft collab, Scalebound.

‘Monster Hunter Wilds' Collapses With 1% Of Launch Players, 82% Negative Reviews

Monster Hunter Wilds While Monster Hunter Wilds received a lot of praise at launch, the longer-term fortunes of the game four months later have been dismal. Both review sentiment and playercount have collapsed. On Steam, recent reviews are just 18% positive, giving the game the dreaded Overwhelmingly Negative classification and dropping its overall reviews to 'mixed.' Playercount is even crazier. Monster Hunter Wilds now has fewer concurrent players on Steam than the seven-year-old, 2018 Monster Hunter World, which fans have deemed the superior long-term game. The negative reviews are largely split into two camps. The first is the fact that PC performance is horrible, and for many, seemingly getting worse over time with Capcom's fixes failing or not coming fast enough, even months after release. Here's one excerpt: That seems to be the more pressing issue, but further complaints highlight a lacking endgame that has not been expanded enough over time, despite Capcom's stated plans to add more interesting and engaging content. Speaking from personal experience, as someone who sunk maybe 10 total hours into past Monster Hunter games, I found myself reaching the end, grinding the best gear, and running out of stuff to do relatively quickly into what was supposed to be the endgame. Despite some new monsters and new difficulty increases, it's just not enough, and so fans are heading back to Monster Hunter World. Monster Hunter Wilds Wilds launched with 1.38 million concurrent players. It's now peaking at around 17,000 a day, around 1.23% of launch. Some may now cite the old 'you can't judge a game's playercount this far after launch' idea, but yes, in this case, you absolutely can. As evidenced by Worlds, the seven-year-old game, this is a series meant to be played and grinded for an extremely long time. Dropping to 1% of its playercount just four months after release, and below Worlds, is absolutely abysmal; there's just no getting around that. Monster Hunter Wilds will be releasing its second title update at the end of this month. Title Update 1 briefly tripled the game's players but soon lost them, and sentiment around the game has gotten increasingly worse since then. Unless this new update comes with a huge amount of fixes and content, it's unlikely to reverse the game's fortunes, and Capcom needs to pull back and figure out what went wrong here and how to truly fix it. Resident Evil Requiem headlines the next Capcom Spotlight livestream

Summer Game Fest might be in the rear-view mirror, but the gaming showcases are still coming. Capcom has announced that its next Spotlight livestream will take place on June 26. Planned to last around 40 minutes, the showcase will focus on upcoming titles Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, which was announced during Summer Game Fest proper earlier this month. As well as news, the event will include developer interviews. Capcom is also promoting Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6 as featured games, so expect new information on updates or fresh content for those existing titles in the showcase. We already know that the Title 2 Update for Monster Hunter Wilds is due at the end of the month, which will add new monsters and a new seasonal event. The last Capcom Spotlight took place in February, where Capcom announced the remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny. We wouldn't expect any new game announcements this time, but it could happen. More exciting is the possibility of new footage of Resident Evil Requiem, which was arguably the biggest announcement of SGF 2025. We know we'll be playing as a new character, named Grace Ashcroft, and that you'll be able to choose between a first and third-person perspective throughout the game. Engadget's Mat Smith got to play Pragmata at SGF, where he called it a 'satisfying sci-fi shooter' and came away impressed by the elegance of its dual-protagonist gameplay. Capcom first announced the game way back in 2020, so it's a long time coming. The next Capcom Spotlight livestream will kick off on June 26 at 6pm ET.
