Backstreet's back, all right! The Backstreet Boys are heading to Las Vegas this summer with nine shows at the Sphere.
The iconic Y2K boy band will kick off a nine-show residency July 11, making the quintet the first pop act to play the state-of-the art venue christened by U2 in 2023.
'We're heading 'Into The Millennium' once again!' the group said Wednesday on Instagram. 'Relive your Backstreet Boys Y2K memories, but this time… LARGER THAN LIFE at @SphereVegas starting this July!'
Band members AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and the embattled Nick Carter are bringing their 1999 album, which featured the hit 'I Want It That Way' as well as 'Larger Than Life,' 'Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely' and 'The One,' back to the stage. Indeed, the 'boys' are currently grown men whose original fervent fanbase likely now consists of moms whose children are old enough for a Vegas trip.
'Fans can expect an unforgettable experience as the Backstreet Boys bring their legendary 'Millennium' album to life, alongside a selection of their greatest hits,' concert producer Live Nation said in a statement. 'Beloved classics like 'I Want It That Way,' and 'Larger Than Life,' will be delivered or enhanced with cutting-edge visuals and sound made possible by Sphere's revolutionary immersive technology.'
The Into the Millennium shows are set for July 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27. Aspiring concertgoers can sign up for the artist presale until Monday. Backstreet Boys Fan Club presale begins Tuesday and will be followed by additional presales. The general sale begins Feb. 21, with all tickets sold at backstreetboys.com.
The Backstreet Boys' stint at the Sphere follows residencies by U2, Phish, the Eagles, Dead & Company and Anyma. Country star Kenny Chesney will also set up shop at the Sphere from May to June for 15 shows.
The Grammy-nominated group — whose music was a radio mainstay and perennial No. 1 on MTV's 'Total Request Live' at the turn of the century — released its 10th studio album 'DNA' in 2019 and later that year launched the subsequent DNA World Tour, its biggest arena tour in 18 years. They also released their first Christmas album, 'A Very Backstreet Christmas,' in fall 2023.

Haim's new album gives vivid shape to a hard-to-define phase
Haim's 'I Quit' is not quite a breakup album and not quite a moving-on album; rather, the fourth LP by this beloved Los Angeles sister trio lands somewhere between those tried-and-true schemes: Its title inspired, the Haims have said, by a third-act mic drop in the cult-fave 1996 movie 'That Thing You Do!,' 'I Quit' is about looking back from the middle distance on a relationship that didn't work and assessing what you learned (and what you didn't) from the experience. 'Can I have your attention, please, for the last time before I leave?' Danielle Haim sings over a trembling acoustic guitar riff to open the album with 'Gone.' Then: 'On second thought, I changed my mind.' In 'All Over Me,' she's exulting in the erotic thrill of a new situationship — 'Take off your clothes / Unlock your door / 'Cause when I come over / You're gonna get some' — while warning the guy not to get out over his skis as any kind of partner. Este Haim takes over lead vocals for 'Cry,' in which she's unsure of her place in the seven stages of grief: 'I'm past the anger, past the rage, but the hurt ain't gone.' How to musicalize such a state of transition? On 'I Quit,' which Danielle co-produced with Rostam Batmanglij, the sisters do it with songs that go in multiple directions at once, as in 'Relationships,' which sounds like 'Funky Divas' meets 'Tango in the Night,' and 'Everybody's Trying to Figure Me Out,' a deconstructed blues strut that bursts into psych-pop color in the chorus. They do it by trying new things, as in the shoegazing 'Lucky Stars' and 'Spinning,' which has Alana Haim cooing breathily over a shuffling disco beat. (In some ways, 'I Quit' feels closely aligned with the newly sexed-up 'Sable, Fable' by Bon Iver, whose Justin Vernon was involved in a couple of songs on this album.) The Haims also do it, of course, by revisiting familiar comforts: 'Gone' samples George Michael's 'Freedom! '90'; 'Down to Be Wrong' evokes the blistered euphoria of peak Sheryl Crow; 'Now It's Time,' for some goofy reason, borrows the industrial-funk groove from U2's 'Numb.' Nostalgia figures into the lyrics too, but it's all very sharply drawn, as in 'Take Me Back,' a caffeinated folk-rock shimmy where Danielle is thinking about the people she used to know in the Valley — 'David only wants to do what David wants / Had a bald spot, now it's a parking lot' — and how much easier things were when she'd cruise Kling Street 'looking for a place to park in an empty parking lot just so you can feel me up.' (Great guitar solo in this one.) In 'Down to Be Wrong,' she looks out from her window seat on a flight to somewhere and sees 'the street where we used to sleep' — a reference, one presumes, to her ex Ariel Rechtshaid, who helped produce Haim's first three albums and whose presence looms here like a phantom. Case in point: ''We want to see you smiling,' said my mother on the hill,' Danielle sings in the loping country ballad 'The Farm,' 'But the distance keeps widening between what I let myself say and what I feel.' Oof. Yet on an album about choosing who to leave behind and who to collide with for the first time, 'The Farm's' emotional climax comes in a touching verse where one of Danielle's sisters tells her she's welcome to crash 'if you need a place to calm down till you get back on your feet.' The upheaval won't last; family is forever.

U2's Frontman Scores His First Rap Hit Alongside A Hip-Hop Legend

Wayne is joined on several tracks by a handful of collaborators, including one who has never scored a rap hit in America before: Bono. The U2 frontman appears on Wayne's tune 'The Days,' featured on Tha Carter VI, which earns him something of a surprise win. 'The Days' opens at No. 21 on the Hot Rap Songs chart this frame. Unsurprisingly, Bono collects his first win on the genre-specific list, as he's not exactly known for his output in the rap space. While his featured guest spot on 'The Days' may bring Bono to the Hot Rap Songs ranking for the first time, Wayne has already collected triple-digit placements on the roster. With a slew of new arrivals this week, the powerhouse rapper ups his career total to 125 appearances on the Hot Rap Songs chart. That roundup includes 59 top 10s and a dozen No. 1s. He adds to his array of top 10 smashes this week, though he doesn't quite manage to lead the charge. 'The Days' earns the tenth loftiest debut on the Hot Rap Songs chart, with many of the tunes that open above it coming from Wayne's Tha Carter VI, while GloRilla's 'Typa' also breaks in at No. 6. Nearly half of all 25 spaces on the tally this time around are filled by debuts — and all but one are by Wayne. Bono earns his first career hit as a soloist on the Hot Rap Songs chart and his second honor on a related list, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. 'The Days' opens at No. 29 on that roster, marking his return to the ranking for the first time in a quarter-century. The U2 singer-songwriter first reached the chart of the most popular R&B, hip-hop, and rap tracks with 'Lean on Me,' a collaboration by Kirk Franklin that also credited Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Crystal Lewis and the Family. That tune peaked at No. 26 in early 1999. 'The Days' also opens on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, which serves as an extension of the main Hot 100 for tunes that didn't quite break onto the most competitive ranking. Bono and Wayne start their collaboration at No. 12 on that list, missing the Hot 100 by a relatively small number of spots.
