POPULAR car manufacturer, Hyundai, produces a staggering 1.5million cars a year at their South Korean base, almost doubling the UK's output.
This streamline system allows the manufacturer to make a motor every 10 seconds, making it the world's largest vehicle plant.

With a dock on site, the vehicles are built, tested and shipped out to California in one seamless operation at the Hyundai Ulsan plant on the south-eastern coast.
Autocar went inside Plant 5 to watch the roll out of some of Hyundai's most popular motors.
According to Autocar, after coming off the production line, and following a quality control check, finished cars are sent to a huge car park at the dockside.
The cars are then loaded onto the ship using a steep ramp at the rear.
Once a number of Elantras have blasted up it, the drivers race on foot back down the ramp and jump into a Hyundai Staria to be driven to their next machines.
According to one of the factory manager's, this unique way of producing and exporting cars saves both money and time, and is the key to why Hyundai can make so many vehicles each year.

Set across 1200 acres, the impressive site boasts five factories, as well as an engine and transmission plant.
It is also the only automotive production facility in the world to have a dedicated on-site port which ships 75 per cent of its yearly output to more than 200 countries around the world.
With production lines running for 18 hours a day, 17 different Hyundai models are produced here, from the Hyundai Santa Fe and Tucson, to the entire Genesis line-up.
After opening just a year after Hyundai itself was formed in 1968, the plant has gone from a small Ford assembly facility, to a giant site which sees a ship full of cars leave the port every 24 hours.

The city of Ulsan has also grown around the plant, going from a population of 30,000 when Hyundai arrived in 1968, to 1.1 million people today - roughly the same population as Birmingham.
What was once a fishing port, has now become South Korea's industrial hub.
The city doesn't take Hyundai's presence for granted as a motorway was named after the company's founder.
As well as this, a hospital, a school, and a handful of restaurants bear the Hyundai name with pride.

All three trims offer a choice between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD) for an additional $1,400. Toyota's base price Corolla hybrid undercuts the competition's pricing by a wide margin. Under the hood, every Corolla Hybrid is powered by the same 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, paired with an electric motor to produce a combined 138 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. Power is managed through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). While these prices are slightly higher than those of the Corolla Hybrid, they still undercut the Honda Civic Hybrid. All Elantra Hybrid trims share the same powertrain: a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor for a combined 139 horsepower and an impressive 195 lb-ft of torque. Rather than using a CVT like many competitors, Hyundai equips the Elantra Hybrid with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, which adds a more responsive and engaging driving feel. Additionally, it features a multi-link independent rear suspension, enhancing both ride quality and handling—something not commonly found in this segment. As with many hybrids, fuel economy tends to dip as more features are added and wheel/tire packages get heavier. The Elantra Blue leads the pack with an EPA-estimated 51 mpg city and 58 mpg highway, making it one of the most fuel-efficient hybrids in its class. The SEL Sport and Limited trims, with their added weight and features, are rated at 49 mpg city and 52 mpg highway. Inside, the Limited trim feels impressively upscale for its price. It features H-Tex leatherette upholstery, multi-tone interior fabrics, and heated and ventilated front seats. Comfort is excellent in both rows, with ample rear seat space—a rarity in this class. Overall, the Elantra Hybrid Limited genuinely feels more expensive than it is, delivering a near-luxury experience at a compact car price. Final thoughts The 2025 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid genuinely surprised me with its refined driving dynamics, quiet cabin, and overall comfort. It feels almost plush by comparison, and thanks to its independent rear suspension, the handling is sharp and composed—a rare trait in this segment. By contrast, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid feels a bit less sophisticated overall. It's a pleasant daily driver, easy to park, and remains one of the most affordable hybrids in its class. But if it were my money, I'd spend a little more and go with the Hyundai Elantra Limited Hybrid—because, unlike most hybrids in this price range, it actually made me smile.

"We are building a city where everything, people, buildings, vehicles, is connected through sensors and AI," Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota's Board of Directors, has said previously. "It's a unique opportunity to create a living digital operating system for urban life."
