Spurs' Jeremy Sochan Reveals New Jump Shot, Draws Comparisons to Knicks' Star
Spurs' Jeremy Sochan Reveals New Jump Shot, Draws Comparisons to Knicks' Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
While the NBA offseason is ripe with trade rumors and draft speculation, it is also one of the only times of year when established players can work on their games. The San Antonio Spurs, it seems, are spending their summers in the gym for the most part.

While Victor Wembanyama spends his summer with Chinese monks, Jeremy Sochan is traveling the world to prepare for EuroBasket, where he will be representing Poland.
In San Antonio, the players who stayed in town are in the gym "two and a half hours every day," according to Blake Wesley. While Sochan isn't with the team, he is spending the summer working on the weakest part of his game: 3-point shooting.
Sochan is an elite defender, a capable facilitator, an underrated ball-handler, and an excellent rebounder, especially on the offensive glass. However, over three NBA seasons, he has shot only 29 percent from 3-point range on limited attempts.
This summer, in gyms around the world, Sochan has made improving his shot a priority, and based on empty-gym footage, he's finding some success.
Sochan has tucked in his elbows, removed the hitch from his shot to an extent, and seems to be getting the ball more up instead of out. It's a basic improvement, although if he can be a servicable shooter next season, he could emerge as one of the best two-way players in the league instead of just a defensive specialist.

With the high release point, slight hitch, and tucked elbows, Sochan looks a bit like Mikal Bridges, who also transformed his shot last summer.
In his first six seasons in the league, Bridges shot 37.5 percent from deep. Last summer, he altered his shot to look a bit more like Sochan's current form, and dipped to 35.4 percent, the lowest mark since his rookie season.
While 35.4 percent is a clear regression for Bridges, it would be a massive improvement for Sochan. The league average last season was an even 36 percent, and if Sochan can sniff that number, there's no reason for him not to crack the starting lineup as a capable scorer and excellent defender.
Bridges is far and away from an elite offensive player, although he was the fourth-leading scorer on one of the best teams in the NBA, and Sochan has a runway to be just as good, provided his training carries over into the regular season.

NBA Legend Makes Strong Caitlin Clark Statement During Fever Season
NBA Legend Makes Strong Caitlin Clark Statement During Fever Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kevin Garnett knows what it takes to compete every night. The NBA legend played from 1995 to 2016 with the Timberwolves, Celtics and Nets. Before his pro career, Garnett was a dominant force at Admiral Farragut Academy in Chicago. Advertisement Known as one of the league's toughest players, Garnett constantly dealt with opponents who tried to challenge him, both physically and verbally. Now, 'The Big Ticket' has weighed in on WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who's in her second season with the Indiana Fever. Speaking on KG Certified, Garnett shared his thoughts: "It's a privilege to be a in a position where others are hating on you. When others are hating on you it means you're doing something right." Garnett finished his career with 26,071 points and 14,662 rebounds. He won an NBA title in 2008, earned league MVP honors in 2004 and made 15 all-star appearances. He was the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year and led the league in rebounding four times. Advertisement While Clark plays a very different game than Garnett, the former Iowa star is already carving out a legacy. She's faced intense physical play as teams try to disrupt her rhythm, but she continues to rise. She's coming off one of her tougher outings, shooting just 21.4% from the field with six turnovers in a loss to the Golden State Valkyries. The Fever remain on the road, heading to Las Vegas and Seattle before returning home. Despite some growing pains, Clark is proving she belongs among the league's best. Warriors React to Draymond Green's Behavior in New Video
Warriors React to Draymond Green's Behavior in New Video originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As fans across the Bay Area settled in for the start of the NBA offseason, the Golden State Warriors dropped a video clip on Saturday that highlighted just how far Draymond Green has come since entering the league. Advertisement In the short video, Green reads aloud a pre-draft scouting report from his college days at Michigan State. Evaluators labeled him a "tweener, undersized for a physical four, yet lacks the athleticism of a wing," and concluded he offered "minimal upside" and was "vulnerable defending quicker guards on the perimeter." By the end of the video, Green couldn't contain himself, simply laughing off the doubters. As a senior at Michigan State, Green earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors, was named a consensus first-team All-American and led the Spartans to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012. That season, he also won Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year and NABC National Player of the Year. Advertisement Yet despite all of his collegiate accolades, Green slipped to the second round of the 2012 NBA draft, going 35th overall to Golden State. What followed was a transformation that few franchises enjoy. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (23).© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Green quickly cemented himself as the defensive leader of Steve Kerr's Warriors, whose identity shifted in 2014-15 toward a small-ball, high-pace attack. Green's versatility, capable of guarding all five positions, and his playmaking as a "point forward" became hallmarks of Golden State's so-called "Death Lineup." Between 2015 and 2022, Green helped the Warriors capture four NBA championships and set a league record with 73 regular season wins in 2016. Advertisement Individually, Green is a four-time All-Star, 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, nine-time All-Defensive Team member (five First Team) and led the league in steals in 2017. NBA rumors: Clippers' stance on trading Ivica Zubac in Kevin Durant deal
The post NBA rumors: Clippers' stance on trading Ivica Zubac in Kevin Durant deal appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Phoenix Suns are trying to get out of the Kevin Durant business this offseason, and naturally there are plenty of teams that would like to get their hands on the former league MVP. The Los Angeles Clippers are one team that can benefit greatly from Durant's skillset. Advertisement While Durant has said that he wants to commit to either the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs, the Suns still owe it to themselves to pursue the best possible return for him. The Clippers have valuable players and assets that could go back to Phoenix in a Durant trade, including starting center Ivica Zubac. Unfortunately for the Suns, the Clippers aren't going to want to let go of their emerging big man, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. 'We've been consistently told LA has no desire to part with Ivica Zubac … as much as Phoenix surely covets the consistently improving center,' Fischer wrote. 'The Clippers, however, do hold two future first-round picks and some available swap rights to sweeten a potential Durant offer that would almost certainly require the inclusion of Norman Powell, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Derrick Jones Jr.' The Clippers have plenty of good reasons for wanting to hold onto Zubac. He has developed from a role player into a two-way force, dominating games on the glass as well as on the defensive end. Offensively, he has great touch around the rim and has become a strong play-finisher around the basket, so he would be an immediate impact player on both ends of the floor. Advertisement Not putting Zubac in a trade will make it very difficult for the Clippers to pull off a Durant trade, but Los Angeles will feel that it is close to competing in the Western Conference either way. Despite losing in seven games in the first round of the playoffs to the Denver Nuggets this season, the Clippers were playing some of the best basketball in the NBA during the back half of the season this year. If they can bring back a majority of that core into the 2025-26 season, Tyronn Lue and company will have confidence that they can beat just about anyone.
