Fans 'thrilled' by theme park announcement for fastest ever rollercoaster yet
News that a brand new coaster is coming to a theme park in California has fans ecstatic but especially because this one in particular has a special feature like no other - the highest speeds ever
If you're a fan of thrills, spills and all things theme park, then you'll be just as over the moon as other avid fans who are delighted with news of a brand new rollercoaster coming to a fan-favourite park. And not just a new coaster, but one with a big name brand attached to it that fans of the movie franchise, that has spanned over 11 movies no less, will revel in.
As if zipping about at ultra high speeds isn't thrilling enough, the new ride coming to Universal Studios Hollywood is the fastest coaster they've ever created, with expected speeds of 72mph - faster than the park's Islands of Adventure ride, Velocicoaster, which reach dizzying speeds of 70 mph, and is located over in Orlando, Florida.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is the first-ever, high-speed outdoor roller coaster for the Californian park, launching in 2026, and will debut as the fastest roller coaster in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio. Work is already well underway and fans are ecstatic to see the exhilarating Fast & Furious universe brought to light.
Theme park super fan Karen McGregor, revealed the new coaster will see her travelling to the other coast of America. "I'm always in Orlando's Universal parks as an annual passholder, but this news means I'll be looking at flights to LA as soon as I find out the exact opening date.
"It's so exciting to have a new outdoor coaster come to the west coast and I can't wait to ride - and take the whole family. The teens will love it!"
Although an exact date hasn't been released yet, fans already know what they're in for after the ride vehicle was recently released. Riders can expect to zip along 4,100 feet of elaborate track inside a replica of main character Dominic Toretto's car, which will have a groundbreaking 360-degree rotation.
Dom, played in the movie franchise by Hollywood actor Vin Diesel, is famous for driving a black 1970 Dodge Charger. The fully rotational ride vehicles will create a seamless sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds while being catapulted along an aerial track that winds its way over sections of the theme park, including the multi-level escalator that connects the Upper and Lower Lots.
And in classic Universal style, the queue sounds just as fun as the ride itself, with fans expected to line up within an expansive garage-like structure before settling into one of four ride vehicles, designed to look like the iconic cars from the films. The ride will be located on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood bringing a whole new perspective to the park for visitors.
The ride will join Universal Studios Hollywood's slate of unprecedented groundbreaking attractions, including the interactive land, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, featuring the critically-acclaimed Mario Kart™: Bowser's Challenge ride; The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ™, Jurassic World—The Ride; Illumination's award-winning The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash as well as the theme park's signature, behind-the-scenes Studio Tour attraction.
If you fancy visiting, then you can buy a one day Universal Studios Hollywood ticket and get a second day free with AttractionTickets.com. Prices for 2026 start from £89 per adult and £85 per child based on Spring arrivals. The second day can be used any time within a week of the first.

Meghan Markle releases ROSÉ ‘enthused with joy & whimsy' as she relaunches As Ever merchandise empire
MEGHAN Markle is showing some bottle after launching a Californian wine. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has added Rosé wine to her range of As ever products - which is her first alcoholic beverage. 8 Meghan Markle's new As Ever product range includes a bottle of Rosé Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk 8 She posted a summery snap online to promote her new range Credit: aseverofficial/Instagram 8 She is also selling a new apricot spread, available this summer Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk 8 As ever claim the new product lines are 'infused with joy, love and a touch of whimsy' Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk The 2023 pink booze from Napa Valley, California, will be sold via her As ever website from July 1. It has been announced alongside two new spreads now available including a Limited-Edition Orange Blossom Honey for $28 (£20) And she has also restocked six of the original products including $15 flower sprinkles. But there is no new raspberry spread available after Meg admitted she may never restock the infamous jam spread. It comes weeks after Meghan applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office for permission to sell alcoholic beverages earlier this year As ever claim the new product lines are 'infused with joy, love and a touch of whimsy'. Describing the new As ever Rosé they say: "With soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish, this bespoke blend is launching just in time for summer entertaining." The wine does not yet have a price but more details are expected before July 1. The bottle of booze comes with the launch of two new spreads that are now available to buy on As ever website. They are a $9 Apricot Spread which can be bought in a Keepsake Packaging for $14. It is described as a "golden-hued Apricot Spread balances a delicate sweetness and a gentle brightness that lets this beautiful stone fruit shine." And adds: "Spoon it over yogurt, swipe it onto toast, or nestle it into a cake. Beautifully packaged in our signature glass jar with our emblematic brushed gold lid, this delightful addition to your home is presented in Keepsake Packaging that is crafted to look beautiful on any counter or kitchen shelf." There is also a new so-called Limited-Edition Orange Blossom Honey for $28 (£20). Sorry Meg, celebs selling wine is nothing new By Helena Nicklin Kylie Minogue Kylie's wine range, which was launched in 2020, includes nine varieties. However, it is her pretty pink rosé that has been the real superstar. With more crunchy red fruit and a boggy, metallic tang nowadays, it is not quite the silky, strawberry-scented wine it used to be at the launch, but is still very drinkable for a warm day nonetheless. Accessible and affordable, the numbers speak for themselves on the popularity of this celebrity offering. Snoop Dogg The rapper's Cali Blanc is a sunshine-fuelled Sauvignon with 12% ABV. It's super-commercial but well-executed. And there is no avoiding which VIP has put his dollars into this vino, with a great big picture of Snoop himself on the label for drinkers to admire – and to add a bit of bling. It is worth a few extra pence – but a £12 tag is a bit too punchy. Sarah Jessica Parker The Sex & The City actress clearly loves a sweeter-than-average Savvy B as her whole range is flamboyantly on the fruity side. Still, the sugar suits this New Zealand sauvignon. SJP collaborated with a top Kiwi vineyard to make it, with the celeb reputedly tasting and blending each new vintage of wine herself. It has a lower-than-average 7% ABV, so it is ideal if you are taking it light. Lower levels also makes it a good daytime choice. Carrie Bradshaw would approve. Post Malone The country superstar and rapper is the big name behind this pastel bottle of plonk. The Rockstar hit-maker decided to think pink when it came to creating his own wine. The French contents are made with a mix of grenache, cinsault, shiraz/syrah and merlot, and it is more savoury than some others, with a crunchy cranberry and vine tomato vibe. But when you sip, the balance is a bit off and the tart factor is high and raspy. It would be fine if it were a fiver for a bottle. But it's not. Gary Barlow FOR a man who proclaims himself a lover of music and fine wines, the Take That star's self-named bottles hit quite a few bum notes. This unoaked offering is made with a blend of Spanish red grapes from central Castilla. Although it is competitively priced, it is a rustic plonk and pretty rough around the edges, with baked fruit flavours and a grippy texture – even though it is described as medium bodied. Less of a wine you will Never Forget, it is more one you won't want to remember. Sorry, Gary. Bon Jovi ROCKER Jon Bon Jovi did well to partner with a top Langue-doc region winemaker – Gerard Bertrand – in France, alongside his son Jesse, to make this dreamy, satin-like pink. It screams celebrity pool parties in the fancy US holiday resort of the Hamptons – but there is real substance to it, too. A constant sell-out whenever it hits UK stores for good reason. There is no 'Le Vin On A Prayer' – this is a famous-name tipple with real taste and quality. Try a glass and you will be grateful for a bed of these rosés. As ever say: "Our Orange Blossom Honey, with its beautiful golden hue, an enticing aroma, delicate floral notes, and subtle citrus undertones, is a standout addition to your pantry. Its gentle complexity adds a balanced touch of flavor to everything from morning toast to cheese boards." Meg launched her first As ever products on April 2 and her stock sold out within 90 minutes. She has restocked the $12 Herbal Hibiscus Tea, Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea and Herbal Peppermint Tea along with the $15 Flower Sprinkles, and Crepe Baking Mix and Shortbread Cookie Mix - both for $14. But there is no new line of her infamous raspberry jam - which is actually a spread. Some consumers had blasted the spread for being too runny. The Duchess of Sussex revealed earlier this month she has decided to 'just pause' restocking her As Ever brand. Meghan Markle said she wants to wait until it is 'completely stable and we have everything we need' and was trying to avoid being 'annoying' to customers. 8 Meghan Markle and Emma Grede, seen after her latest podcast appearance Credit: Instagram 8 Meg appeared as a guest on the podcast and shared behind-the-scene snaps Credit: Instagram 8 The new range comes after Meg claimed she was "pausing" her brand Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk

Steven Spielberg thought he had ‘a heart attack' on harrowing Jaws set
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Steven Spielberg once thought he was having a heart attack after suffering a 'full-blown panic attack' while filming Jaws. The 78-year-old has been behind huge hits over his decades-long career, but shared that his efforts behind the camera for the 1975 shark thriller – which was released 50 years ago today – was among his toughest projects. The legendary movie followed a star-studded cast led by Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, as a team on the hunt for a terrifying great white shark after it attacked beachgoers. The film grossed more than $475million worldwide, and has gone down as one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. Detailing his experience on set in a new National Geographic special to celebrate the milestone anniversary, titled new Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, the filmmaker shared that he battled nightmares for 'years' afterwards. 'When the film wrapped in Martha's Vineyard, I had a full-blown panic attack,' he told the cameras. 'I couldn't breathe, I thought I was having a heart attack. I couldn't get a full breath of air. 'I kept going to the bathroom and splashing water on my face. I was shaking. And I was out of it – I was completely out of it.' Steven and co faced a number of issues during filming, including difficulties with the mechanical shark and going hugely over budget – which didn't help when Hollywood bosses kept a close eye on production. At the same time, they had to ease simmering tensions between the cast while having to contend with shooting on water for large periods of time – with the filmmaker admitting that he reshot some moments in a crew member's LA pool. Basically, an actual shark rocking up to shore sounds like it would have been the least of their problems… Despite only having a few projects under his belt at that point, Steven explained that, as the director, he felt responsible for every single person on set. 'I think it was everything I had experienced on the island…,' he continued. '[I] at least tried to not only hold myself together, I had to hold the crew together. 'I had a great crew, and yet I felt responsible for everybody there. And I felt really responsible for keeping them there for as long as we had to stay. I think I just lost it.' Although he had nothing to fear, as Jaws premiered to huge acclaim, broke box office records and won three Oscars, Steven still struggled to let his experience go. In fact, he would sneak on board the Orca boat used in the film when it was eventually moved to the Universal tour, and sometimes 'sob'. 'I had a real tough time when I finished the movie,' he said. 'The success was fantastic but it didn't stop the nightmares, it didn't stop me waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, where the sheets would be soaking wet. 'We didn't have the words PTSD in those days, and I had consistent nightmares about directing Jaws for years afterwards. 'I was still on the movie and the film was never-ending.' 'I had nothing to cry about,' he added. 'The film was a phenomenon, and I'm sitting here shedding tears because I'm not able to divest myself of the experience. 'The boat helped me to begin to forget. That Orca was my therapeutic companion for several years after Jaws came out. More Trending 'Jaws was a life-altering experience. On the one hand, it was a traumatizing experience for me that was mostly about survival. And I think all of us feel we survived something. 'Jaws, also, I owe everything to.' Jurassic World Rebirth embraces hardcore horror: 'I waited for studio to say no'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Jurassic World Rebirth's director 'cranked up' the scare-factor in the new dinosaur film, bringing the franchise back to its horror roots. British filmmaker Gareth Edwards helms the latest movie in the Jurassic universe, which first hit screens in 1993 with original director Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. The film had a huge impact on popular culture's perception of prehistoric creatures, including Velociraptor and Triceratops – as well as the big baddie, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, a 40-foot-long carnivorous dinosaur. Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp kept audiences tense and terrified with the stealth and size of the T-Rex, as well as creating classic cinematic tropes, such as water rippling in a glass as the massive beast approached for its grand onscreen reveal. Speaking at Jurassic World Rebirth's London premiere on Tuesday, 50-year-old Edwards said he wanted to make the new movie as scary as possible. 'I feel like the original Jurassic Park is really a horror movie on the witness protection programme, pretending to be a family adventure – but we all know it's a scary horror film,' he told Metro when asked about returning to the franchise's horror beginnings. 'It was just a really good excuse – especially as being an adult now, it's harder to get scared. So we just cranked that up a little bit and wanted to go as far as we could.' However, he confessed that he didn't think Universal would let him get away with as much horror content as they did. 'I kept waiting for the studio to come along and say, 'No, no, no – think of the kids, stop' – and they never did! I think they felt the same way and kids are a lot more mature than we give them credit [for and they want to be scared.' Edwards likened the thrills and scares of Jurassic World Rebirth to a theme park ride. 'It's like a roller-coaster where you're safe, a dinosaur's not going to come out and get you after you finish the film, I don't think – but you never know.' 'The movie felt like that; you want to be afraid. You want to go in and feel the tension and get the anxiety. I've probably failed at my job if not.' Edwards, who is also known for helming 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as original sci-fi The Creator, was announced as director for the film in February 2024 before its cast – including self-confessed Jurassic 'total nerd' Scarlett Johansson and Wicked star Jonathan Bailey – later came onboard for a five-month shoot. Jurassic World Rebirth has teased dinosaurs such as Mosasaurus, Spinosaurus and Quetzalcoatlus, as well as, of course, the return of the T-Rex. There's also a new main antagonist, the Distortus rex, the design of which was inspired by the xenomorphs of the Alien franchise. Set 32 years after dinosaurs were brought back from extinction thanks to the events of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Rebirth follows a top-secret expedition including Johannson's former military operative Zora Bennett, Bailey's bespectacled palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis, Rupert Friend as pharmaceutical rep Martin Krebs and Mahershala Ali's team leader Duncan Kincaid. The group braves the forbidden isolated equatorial regions where dinosaurs still roam freely to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures in the hopes of a major medical breakthrough. More Trending Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh feature-length film in the series, which also includes sequels 1997's The Lost World and 2001's Jurassic Park III as well as a rebooted phase started with 2015's Jurassic World. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video This was followed by Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which brought together stars from across the years including Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Koepp returned to pen the new film after exiting following The Lost World, while Spielberg remains on board as an executive producer. Jurassic World Rebirth is released in cinemas on Wednesday, July 2. Got a story?
