'White Lotus' Fans *Need* to Read This Reese's Book Club Pick

Like many folks, I'm all in on the third season of The White Lotus—the stunning locale, the top-notch performances and the drama, baby. While watching the most recent episode, it dawned on me: This show is super similar to a book I read—and loved—not long ago. If you're looking to fill the White Lotus-shaped hole in your week after this season wraps in a few days, I highly recommend checking out The Unwedding, a novel by Ally Condie that was last June's Reese's Book Club pick.

As Witherspoon notes in her intro to the book, The Unwedding opens with a woman, Ellery, heading to a luxurious resort in Big Sur, California, to celebrate her 20th wedding anniversary. The first hitch? She's there alone, following a recent divorce. And not only is her singleness at the front of her mind, there's also a wedding slated to happen at the resort during her trip.
I say slated to happen because it never actually does; Ellery finds the groom's body floating in a pool. Alongside two new friends, fellow guests Nina and Ravi, Ellery attempts to figure out what happened. Then, another mysterious death occurs, and to add insult to injury, the investigation is thwarted by a violent storm that leaves the guests trapped at the resort. Like any good thriller, there are twists and turns, seemingly promising leads that go nowhere and a lot of secrets threatening to be uncovered.
The similarities to The White Lotus are numerous: The setting is described in glorious detail (though we obviously can't see what the property looks like, Condie's prose brings the Big Sur backdrop to life), and the ultra-rich guests each have their own issues and potential motivations. I blew through The Unwedding in just two days and highly suggest you do the same if you're in the market for media about rich people acting up after The White Lotus ends and we wait for season four.

Russell Crowe Joins Henry Cavill in Chad Stahelski's HIGHLANDER Reboot — GeekTyrant

Russell Crowe is officially suiting up for sword-swinging immortality. The Oscar-winning actor has joined the cast of Chad Stahelski's Highlander reboot, taking on the iconic Ramirez mentor role originally played by Sean Connery in the 1986 cult classic. He'll star opposite Henry Cavill, who's already been set as the film's lead. Crowe and Cavil previously appeared in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, so this project is a little reunion for the duo. This new Highlander is coming from Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists for a full theatrical release, with John Wick mastermind Stahelski behind the camera. The script is written by Michael Finch, and the team is aiming for a a fresh, full-throttle experience. For those new to the mythology, the original Highlander , directed by Russell Mulcahy, followed a centuries-spanning battle between immortal warriors, blending historical flashbacks with gritty present-day sword duels. It became a fan-fueled franchise with multiple sequels, a long-running TV series, and more than a few legendary lines. Yes, there can be only one, but clearly, there can also be reboots. Stahelski seems to be playing the long game. United Artists has secured full rights to the 1986 original, previously developed by Lionsgate, and there's already talk of expanding into a new series down the road. Crowe is next appearing in Nuremberg , alongside Rami Malek and Michael Shannon, dropping November 7. He's also wrapped up a Netflix thriller called Unabom , Walden Media's Cold War drama Billion Dollar Spy , and the Derrick Borte-directed action flick Bear Country . The director also previously teased the action in the film and explained that it will be inspired by the action in the John Wick films. "I'll keep it to the core. Most audiences, I'll use the gun analogy, most of what you know about gunfights or car chases because most of us don't get involved in gun fights, or car chases, or sword fights, we learn through movies.' "And what those movies show you is about 95% bullshit. You don't fight 50 guys with your bare hands and then walk away, but it's fun. It's wish fulfillment. 'So John Wick, we know it's a cartoon – I know it's not – but we also have fun with it. But we do tactical reloads, we try to do fire manipulations, stuff like the professionals do, the military do. But then we have fun with it, you know? Sword work is very much the same."' Cavill previously shared how big of a fan his is of the franchise and then said that the script for the film is 'extraordinary' and that the movie will take some 'big swings.' He said: "I am a Highlander fan, they're great fun movies. Obviously I watched them when I was a lot younger and have since rewatched, but also the TV show. 'I really enjoyed the lore behind it, that sense of a tragic warrior with more of a story to tell than a cool guy with a sword, doing cool things, and this goes even deeper into that. "What they've done so far and we're doing with the development of the script is extraordinary, I think people are going to be really, really pleased. 'Big swings are important, you play it safe, you're going to just go, 'Eh, I suppose it's fine?" but if you take a big swing, people love it or they hate it." Stahelski also previously talked about the movie, saying it will include both familiar characters and "elements" taken from the '90s TV series. "We're looking to do our story [and it] engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that. But we've also brought in elements of all the TV shows. We're trying to do a bit of a prequel setup to The Gathering.' 'We have ideas for days about how to make the coolest characters and to make that an epic TV show. I just think that's a rich, rich mythology." Stahelski also explained that they are taking the best story elements from across the franchise and implementing it all into one story that will be spread out across a trilogy of films: "I think the TV series hit on a lot of great stuff wasn't in the feature, between the watchers and all the different types of immortals. How do we get this into a feature mode before we dribble it into the TV world? 'Well, let's restructure it in parts, let's look at it like it was a TV show, let's look at it like it was a high-end trilogy. How to we tell the story of The Gathering, The Quickenings, The Immortals and how do we really build this world out even more so than the original project? 'That's what we're restructuring right now. It's taking all the good stuff that we had before I was involved in the project from the script; redeveloping the script to give us really good chapters one, two and three; and expanding the world." He also talked about his vision for the film, saying: " The vision we're trying to get across and what we're trying to develop, I equate very close to Star Wars. The first one is a very satisfying ending but it does leave the door open and that's kind of how I see this. 'I would really like to expand it over three. I see The Gathering happening over three. It's tricky, don't get me wrong, that's why we're still developing it. We want to be able to tell three complete stories that all kind of fit. 'I think the Star Wars trilogy, at least up to The Empire Strikes Back, is a good example of how we want to process it." I very excited about this Highlander reboot and I hope that it delivers something awesome. Source: Deadline

Leslie Bibb Set the Record Straight on Why She Hasn't Married Sam Rockwell After 18 Years Together

After both starring in season 3 of The White Lotus, fans are realizing how sweet Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell are more than ever before. The duo, who have been together for 18 years, are a true Hollywood power couple, but have no plans to walk down the aisle anytime soon. As this week's guest co-host of the Today Show with Jenna Bush Hager, Bibb finally explained why they've never 'put a ring on it.' More from SheKnows Eric Dane Was Reportedly Dating Two Women Before His Red Carpet Debut With Janell Shirtcliff 'Listen, I love Sam Rockwell,' she told Bush Hager of the Oscar winner. 'I would put him in my pocket and carry him with me all the time. I love him, [but] I do not want to get married.' Bush Hager then asked if it was something that came up at the beginning of their relationship. As it turns out, Rockwell even annoyed her by asking her over and over again if she was sure. 'He kept saying, 'Really, you don't want to get married?'' Bibb remembered. ''Stop asking me as if I'm gonna pull a sneak on you,' but he didn't want it either.' 'Maybe it's probably something about the way we grew up, but I feel like if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' she said. Bibb then went on to say that all relationships, regardless of being married or not, have their ups and downs. 'I think this is an ideal that has been ingrained in us of long hair, fairytale, that someone's gonna come in and if we're in a relationship, everything will be okay,' she said. '[But] it's not gonna be okay, stuff happens, and it's gonna be highs and lows.' She also added that she never wanted to become a mom. 'I just don't have that chip in me,' she shared. And, despite the 18 years together, it seems Bibb and Rockwell are keeping their spark alive. 'I do think it gets better,' she said. 'I think the intimacy of a relationship is sexy to me. You can all have all the hot sex in the beginning, but you gotta reinvent.' Later on in the episode, Rockwell joined both Bibb and Bush Hager for an interview. There, Bush Hagr asked Rockwell about his first impressions of his girlfriend. 'We had that kind of thunderbolt, like 'Dream Weaver' moment in Wayne's World when we saw each other,' Rockwell gushed. 'I found out that she studied in the same acting school that I did, so that was really handy.' Bibb, on the other hand, tried to play it cool. 'I thought you were really cute and I pretended I didn't know who you were,' she remembered. Speaking of their first date, Rockwell remembered that they ended up extending their date to dinner after their day date went so well. 'It's good, you were single, you were ready to mingle,' she told him. 'And I just put my little talons and I said 'No, you're mine.'' 'And they're still in,' Rockwell added. Jason Isaacs Gave a Definite Answer to His Rumored Feud With 'White Lotus' Co-Star Parker Posey

Before the season 3 finale of The White Lotus even aired, feud rumors started to swirl about the stars of the show. Among the fan theories, for example, is that Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey, who played married couple Timothy and Victoria Ratliff in the series, didn't exactly get along. Now, he's shining some light on their dynamic. In a new interview with Vulture, Isaacs answered a question White Lotus fans have been asking themselves all along: Why has he seemed closer to his onscreen kids (Patrick Schwarznegger, Sarah Catherine Cook and Sam Nivola) than to his onscreen wife? More from SheKnows Leslie Bibb Set the Record Straight on Why She Hasn't Married Sam Rockwell After 18 Years Together 'She's Parker Posey,' Isaacs said when asked about what it was like working with her. 'She's everything you think she would be.' When pressed on the matter, Isaacs couldn't avoid hinting at some tension. 'She was playing someone out of her head, so she was given license to be bonkers,' he said. 'And then I'm playing someone out of my head.' 'So I didn't really look at her or talk to her or listen to her because I'm so much in my own tunnel,' he revealed. 'So, I can't really tell you what it's like to interact with her too much.' So while Isaacs didn't exactly confirm that he and Posey are feuding, he's finally admitted that they didn't get along. Whether that was because of their 'method acting' or their own personalities, however, it seems we'll never know. Previously, Isaacs discussed on-set drama in an April 9 episode of The Happy Hour on SiriusXM's TODAY Show Radio. Isaacs stated that while filming the show on location in Thailand, the cast and crew 'were in a little pressure cooker together.' 'Like anywhere you go for the summer, there's friendships, there's romances, there's arguments, there's cliques that form and break and reform and stuff like that,' he explained. Isaacs added that he's seen the rumors about who had issues on set, saying, 'I'm careful. I'm not stupid. I look at the Internet. I only read every single word written about The White Lotus and about everybody in it.' But assured fans that the 'amateur Sherlock Holmes' trying to figure out which cast members might be feuding don't have 'the slightest clue what they're talking about.' 'People who think they're onto something, and it then gets magnified because of a thousand other people. Nobody has any clue,' he said. Hopefully he'll keep the clues coming!Best of SheKnows 17 Movies & TV Shows That Educate About the History of American Slavery All of Chris Martin's Confirmed & Rumored Relationships Over the Years 13 Times Meghan Markle Reminded Us So Much of Princess Diana
