Between the unbridled opulence of it all and the mix of guests, I immediately knew that this stylishly-appointed camp is where season four of HBO's 'The White Lotus' should be filmed. Listen carefully, Mike White. I broke my pledge of not working on vacation to tell you that your show needs a safari season, and Sir Richard Branson's quaint camp is the obvious setting. I was traveling with a group of seven gay men from Boston (a.k.a. the drama). There was a honeymooning second-marriage couple from South Carolina (cue the Parker Posey accent), a large family from Hawaii celebrating a non-descript and unspoken milestone (suspicious), a solo traveler enjoying her birthday (sad), and a pair of young couples from Southeast Asia who had a wardrobe better suited for Coachella than Kenya. The script writes itself. Heck, I'm happy to help, for a small fee, of course. The pool area at Mahali Mzuri safari camp overlooks a valley where guests can watch animals such as giraffes, elephants, hippos, and baboons stroll through. Christopher Muther/Globe Staff I'll give you an anecdote for free, and you can decide if it works for 'White Lotus Kenya.' My friends and I visited a traditional Maasai village near the camp to see how the locals live, except this village had more handicrafts for sale than residents. Now, picture a group of gay men sitting inside a traditional mud hut listening to a local describe how the huts are constructed. Before he could finish, an elderly woman from the tribe had a question for us: 'Where are your wives?' Advertisement Did I mention that homosexuality is illegal in Kenya? This is comedy gold, Mike White. It's not just the culture that works for 'White Lotus.' There's also room for danger. A month before our arrival, a lion killed a 14-year-old girl at a camp in Kenya, and while we were on a safari, a lion killed a man in Namibia when he stepped out of his tent in the night to use the toilet. On our twice-daily safari rides through the conservancies, we frequently saw lions gnawing on freshly killed prey. Think of the possibilities of killing off a character by mauling. Christopher Muther/Globe Staff The beautiful locations are part of the 'White Lotus' television-as-travel brochure appeal, and the 580-square-mile Maasai Mara National Reserve, where Sir Richard Branson's Mahali Mzuri Virgin Mega Safari Camp is located, is breathtaking. Each evening, the sunset was like a painting, and the sheer amount of wildlife was impressive. Throughout the trip, our group stayed at three different camps. They were all notable in their own way, but even the wildlife around Mahali Mzuri seemed more extravagant. Were they on Branson's payroll? Are you picking up what I'm putting down here, Mike? Christopher Muther/Globe Staff You can even draw upon our wacky experiences of occasional power outages, an actual spear being used as a 'Do not disturb' sign, and a policy that allows guests to step behind the bar and mix their own drinks if there's no bartender in sight. Those three elements alone can serve as a story arc. Advertisement It may sound surprising that I knew so little about Mahali Mzuri before I arrived, but since my job involves planning travel, I was happy to leave the planning to others for my vacation. I just showed up with a duffle bag of what I thought were appropriate safari clothes and prepared to rough it. Little did I know I'd wind up in such glamorous surroundings. That's my pitch, Mike. I know you're looking at setting the new season Even if you don't use my idea — and you'd be crazy not to — I won't hold it against you. I'll always have the memories of the luxury, the lions, and the local woman asking a large group of gay men why we left our wives at home. Jetstar takes advantage of huge Thailand boom
Thailand has always been a popular destination among Aussies – but since the release of the latest White Lotus series, travel to the destination has particularly boomed. Not long after the first episode of the new season dropped in February, Expedia searches for Koh Samui, where the film is set, spiked 70 per cent. 'This year, two-thirds of travellers say movies, streaming services and TV shows have influenced their travel choices, with a 16 per cent increase year-on-year [and] this trend shows no signs of slowing in 2025,' Expedia travel expert, Sarah King said. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), during the first four months this year, Australian arrivals grew by 16 per cent year-on-year to 273,961. Jetstar has also seen a boom in passengers visiting the destination and is now expanding its services to Thailand, adding more than 100,000 new low-fare seats between the two destinations. In 2024 alone, more than 400,000 passengers visited the Southeast Asian destination. 'We're reshaping our international network to focus on high-demand destinations, adding an additional 130,000 seats across Thailand, South Korea and Japan each year, and allowing Australians to take off more, for less,' Jetstar executive manager commercial planning, Lyle Brownscombe said. From October 2025, Jetstar will introduce two additional return flights per week between Brisbane – Bangkok, bringing the total to five weekly services within a year of launch. It will also add a weekly return flight between Melbourne and Bangkok, and two extra services between Sydney and Phuket during the peak Christmas holiday travel period. Fares will start from $299 – for example from Sydney to Phuket, one-way and $309 from Melbourne to Bangkok, one-way. The boost to Thailand flights comes as Jetstar this week became the largest carrier between Australia and South Korea, adding three more weekly flights between Sydney and Seoul. The airline now operates 10 return services per week to the South Korean capital city from Sydney and Brisbane. 'Our growth into Asia is backed by a significant investment in our fleet, including next-generation aircraft and upgrades to our Dreamliners, allowing us to fly further and more efficiently with more comfort for passengers,' Ms Brownscombe said. In celebration of its expansion, the airline is having a sale. Meanwhile, Jetstar airline will retire its Australia–Hawaii service, with the final Sydney–Honolulu flight departing October 24, 2025. Qantas will subsequently operate services from Melbourne and Sydney to Honolulu. The move has allowed Jetstar to redeploy its Boeing 787 Dreamliners to high-demand routes across Asia.

'White Lotus' Star Has Candid Response to 'Very Low' Payday Reports
White Lotus star Jason Isaacs made it known how he really feels about being paid 'a very low price' for his starring role in the third season of HBO's juggernaut drama. Isaacs revealed during an interview with Vulture that, due to the show's equal pay initiative, he and the rest of his co-stars earned just $40,000 per episode. That means they made around $320,000 each for the season, but while that might sound like a hefty payday, Isaacs noted that's actually 'a very low price' for such a high-profile gig. 'I didn't know that was public knowledge. That's absolutely true,' Isaacs said when asked about the equal pay initiative. 'Generally, actors don't talk about pay in public because it's ridiculously disproportionate to what we do—putting on makeup and funny voices—and just upsets the public. But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that's a very low price. But the fact is, we would have paid to be in it. We probably would have given a body part.'When asked if he felt it was unfair that he and veteran co-stars like Parker Posey and Walton Goggins were making the same amount as the show's newcomers, like Sarah Catherine Hook and Aimee Lou Wood, Isaacs made his position clear. 'Do I mind that I wasn't paid more than other people? I never work for money,' he said. 'I've done all right. People will think I have huge stockpiles of money, but sadly, what I've done rather immaturely is expand my outgoings to match my incomings and pretty much spent everything I've earned over the years.' 'Listen, I love Sam Rockwell,' Bibb, 51, told Jenna Bush Hager of the Oscar winner. 'I would put him in my pocket and carry him with me all the time. I love him. I do not want to get married.' "I feel like we are married!" she added. Rockwell, 56, brought up the topic of marriage early in their relationship, Bibb said, adding that she always shut down the idea. "It annoyed the crap out of me because he's like, 'Really, you don't want to get married?' " Bibb remembered. "I was like, 'Stop saying it. I already said I don't want to marry you. Stop asking me like I'm gonna pull like a sneak on you.' But he didn't want it either." 'Maybe it's probably something about the way we grew up, but I feel like if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' she continued. The couple also agrees that they don't want to have children together, Bibb said, noting that she never developed a desire to become a mother. "I just don't have that chip in me." The actors still keep the spark alive after nearly two decades together by putting their relationship first. "You have to constantly choose the relationship. We've been together for 18 years … it's a long time but I do think it gets better," Bibb shared. "Like the intimacy of a relationship is sexy to me. You can all have the hot sex in the beginning, but you gotta reinvent." He gave the women bouquets before sitting down and sharing his first impressions of Bibb, whom he met at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles in 2007. 'We had that kind of thunderbolt, like 'Dream Weaver' moment in Wayne's World when we saw each other,' Rockwell gushed. 'I found out that she studied in the same acting school that I did, so that was really handy.' He recognized Bibb from her character Carley Bobby in the 2006 comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Meanwhile, Bibb thought Rockwell was "really cute" but tried to play it cool by pretending she had no idea who he was. Their eventual first day date went so well that it extended later into the evening, which caused Rockwell to cancel his nighttime date that he had scheduled with someone else. "It's good, you were single, you were ready to mingle,' Bibb told Rockwell. 'And then I just put my little claws in you, I put my talons in and I said, 'No, you're mine.' " 'And they're still in,' Rockwell added. Back in September 2022, Rockwell told The Standard his reasoning for why he and Bibb have never wed. "[We're] basically married. She's in my will. Here's another reason to slather on some SPF this summer — especially if you're planning to bare it all. Jenna Bush Hager revealed this week that a trip to a topless beach in Spain during high school left her so scorched, her chest turned green. 'If you get burned, it's not pretty,' the 43-year-old 'Today With Jenna & Friends' co-host told actress Leslie Bibb on Tuesday's episode. 5 Actress Leslie Bibb appeared on the June 16 episode of 'Today With Jenna & Friends.' NBC When Bibb, 51, asked if her chest peeled, Bush Hager nodded — but then took things in a bizarre turn. 'They may have turned green,' the TV personality said. 'The opposite of the color wheel!' 'They turned green? Are you for real life?' the White Lotus star gasped. 'Oh, I don't think that's good,' Bibb added — and she's probably right. Sunburns happen when you're exposed to too much ultraviolet (UV) light, which can penetrate into deep layers of the skin and cause cellular damage, according to the Mayo Clinic. The body responds by increasing blood flow to the area, leading to inflamed skin we know as a burn. 'Signs that your burns are significant include painful redness, peeling and blisters,' Dr. Lauren Taglia, a dermatologist, told Northwestern Medicine. Mudgil hasn't treated Bush Hager personally, but he speculated that her symptoms could be caused by impetigo, a common and contagious bacterial skin infection. 'This can lead to the formation of yellowish-green crusts, which would explain the green color she described,' Mudgil explained. 'Impetigo can be painful and requires antibiotics for treatment, either topical or systemic, depending on how widespread the infection is,' he noted. Gross? Bush Hager agrees. 5 All skin types can burn, though those with a lighter complexion are more at risk. Evgen – The former first daughter said the experience was enough to scare her away from sunbathing for good. 'I try not, but this is years of sun damage,' she admitted, rubbing her arms and adding that she now gets regular skin checks. She also offered some sage advice for viewers: wear sunscreen, especially when you're young. 'SPF babies, SPF! Get hip with it!' Bibb chimed in. Dermatologists agree. For daily use, most experts recommend using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. If you're spending extended time outdoors, SPF 60 or higher is smart, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. For full-body coverage, aim for about one ounce of sunscreen — roughly a shot glass. And don't forget to reapply every two hours, or more if you're swimming or sweating. Even if you're inside, you're not off the hook. 5 Hager Bush, a mom-of-three, wishes her younger self hadn't tanned so much. Instagram/jennabhager 'Most ultraviolet (UV) rays can penetrate glass, so if you're working or relaxing near a window, you're receiving sun exposure,' Dr. Elisabeth G. Richard, a dermatologist, told the Skin Cancer Foundation. The bright side: you won't have to reapply as frequently as you would outdoors, likely every four to six hours. 'Sun damage is cumulative,' Richard noted. 'So even if you're only exposed for a short time, it's important to have protection.' Experts also recommend doubling up with wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses and protective clothing for extra coverage. When the sun's at its peak — between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. — your best bet is to head for the shade. And if a green chest isn't warning enough, don't forget: Every sunburn — even a mild one — increases your risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of all. In fact, just one blistering burn in childhood or adolescence more than doubles your risk of melanoma later in life, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2025, 104,960 new melanoma cases will be diagnosed in the US — and 8,430 Americans will die from it.
