Gun found in Edinburgh as 'gang war' investigation continues

Police uncovered the firearm while carrying out enquiries in the Roseburn Path area of Edinburgh at around 11am this morning (June 11).
Officers confirmed the weapon was found as part of Operation Portaledge which is the ongoing investigation into violent incidents which have taken place across the Central Belt in recent months.
Cops say "several weapons" have been found so far as part of the operation.

Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry, of the Specialist Crime Division, said: "A number of weapons have now been recovered as part of this operation.
"I hope this latest find helps to reassure the community of our continued resolve to target organised crime.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who knows something that could assist with our investigation to please contact to us.
"Anyone with information relating to these incidents should speak to Police Scotland on 101 or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

As part of extensive enquiries into a number of linked 'violent incidents', a total of 42 people have been arrested the Glasgow Times reported on June 6.
Over the course of the investigation, more than 8000 homes have been visited, and more than 1600 vehicles have been stopped as officers continue to gather information.
Last month, Scotland's top police officer Chief Constable Jo Farrell pledged to make Scotland 'a hostile environment for those involved in organised crime' and praised forensics officers 'for their contribution to what is one of our largest ongoing investigations'.
She said: 'This month, I provide an overview of disruption and enforcement, including dozens of arrests, in response to targeted attacks in the east and west of Scotland, under Operation Portaledge.
'I want to begin by condemning the actions of those involved and thanking our communities for their support and assistance in making Scotland a hostile environment for those involved in organised crime.
"I also want to recognise and thank Scottish Police Authority Forensics for their contribution to what is one of our largest ongoing investigations.
'We'll continue to work with partners at international, national, regional and local levels to clear organised crime, and I want to thank colleagues in local authorities and the Scottish Fire and Rescue for their support.
'A dedicated team from our specialist crime division has been working since March to investigate targeted attacks in both the East and West."

Families to march against knife crime through streets of Glasgow

Woman, 69, fights for her life in hospital after being hit by car in horror crash as cops appeal for witnesses

A WOMAN has been left fighting for her life after being hit by a car in a shocking collision. The 69-year-old was hit by a vehicle shortly after 6am today while walking in South Harrow, London, suffering serious injuries. She currently remains in hospital in a critical condition, the Metropolitan Police said. Cops added that the driver stopped at the scene and is helping with ongoing police enquiries. No arrests have yet been made. Police are also currently appealing for witnesses of the horrific collision to come forward. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the event or may have dash cam footage in the run-up to the collision. Footage shows three vans burst into fireball after attack outside Glasgow supermarket

Police and fire crews were called to Pollokshields shortly after midnight on Saturday. Shocking footage captured the moment three vans burst into flames in a firebomb attack outside a supermarket in Glasgow. The parked vehicles were targeted outside Strawberry Garden - a grocers and cash and carry - just after midnight on Saturday. ‌ The motors exploded into a fireball on Forth Street in the Pollokshields area, causing a huge plume of black smoke. ‌ Cops have launched probe into the deliberate blaze. a blaze probe into the incident described by one local as "deliberate and malicious". One video taken by an eyewitness shows the intensity of the inferno as the vehicles are engulfed. Huge flames can be seen bursting out of the vans as black smoke billows out from above. Three Scottish Fire and Rescue crews were scrambled to the scene at 12.08am with crews working for two hours to extinguish the fire. ‌ Police locked down the scene as shocked locals and shop workers began to gather near the cordon. One witness who was working at a nearby business said: "It was crazy there were police everywhere. Three vans were on fire outside Strawberry Garden. I couldn't get out to see my car for a while so I didn't know if it was on fire or not. ‌ "I had parked further down Forth Street earlier. Luckily it was far enough away from the blaze. "By the time I finished at 2am I was allowed to leave by police." Pictures taken at the scene today show how all three motors were left a burnt out shell. ‌ One motor was so badly torched that only the bottom half and wheels remained intact. The incident is being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.' ‌ A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "Around 12.08am Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of three vehicles on fire on Forth Street, Glasgow. "We mobilised three appliances to the scene. There were no reports of injuries. "Crews left at 2.09am."
