A police investigation is underway folllowing an alleged attack by a group of girls on a pensioner in a popular park - reports say a woman was left with a bleeding head
A pensioner was hospitalised with a head injury following an alleged attack by a group of girls. A woman was found by cops and paramedics 'bleeding' on the floor at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, on Wednesday.
The incident, reports say, took place close to a play area with the girls allegedly involved inside the play area at some point. A 'group of aggressive girls' were seen hitting an 'old lady' at around 7.30pm on June 18, a witness said.
Another witness said they saw the incident unfold and called it 'disgusting', Birmingham Live reported. 'Shouting in front of my daughter, and other children,' they said. 'Disgusting behaviour.'
They added: 'Saw the older women on the floor at one point. I saw the women holding her head with tissue, think it was bleeding. Know police got called though hope she is okay.'
The incident is now being investigated, West Midlands Police has confirmed. The Mirror has approached the force for an update, along with West Midlands Ambulance Service, which was reported to have no record of the alleged incident.
An earlier statement by West Midlands Police said: 'We were called to reports of disorder involving a group of women close to Banners Gate Lodge, Sutton Park, on Wednesday [June 18], shortly after 7:40pm."
'One woman, in her 70s, was taken to hospital with a head injury. We are investigating and people with information should contact us via 101 quoting crime number 20/278984/25.'
Sutton Park is one of the largest urban parks in Europe, according to Birmingham City Council. It is a National Nature Reserve and designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The council said the park has "open heathland, woodlands, seven lakes, wetlands, and marshes - each with its own rich variety of plants and wildlife, some rarely seen in the region". Cattle can be seen grazing on the land along with wild ponies.

Reality TV star arrested for murder after partner's body is found
A former reality TV star from Beauty And The Geek has been arrested and charged of murder after her partner's body was found in a 'grisly scene' at their house A former reality TV star from Beauty And The Geek has been arrested and charged with the murder of her partner after he was found dead at their home. According to reports from The Courier Mail, emergency services were called to their home in Port Lincoln in South Australia. On investigation, first responders found a man's body in what has been described as a "grisly scene." As yet, the identity of the 34 year old reality TV star has been kept under wraps but, according to the publication, she was arrested and later charged with murder. The Courier Mail has stated that she appeared on the popular reality TV show which aimed to match a nerd to a beautiful woman. South Australia Police confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to one another. The arrested woman refused bail and now remains in custody. Major crime and forensic officers travelled to Port Lincoln in a bid to assist local police officers with the investigation. South Australia Police told The Mirror that at 3.25pm on Thursday 19 June emergency services were called to the property after "reports of a small fire." The statement said: "When police entered the property, they located a man deceased inside the premises. A 34-year-old Port Lincoln woman has been arrested at the scene and has been charged with the man's murder." It continued: "She has been refused police bail and may appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today. Detectives from Major Crime Investigation Branch and Forensic Response Section officers flew to the scene last night and are assisting local police with the investigation." It added: "Police believe both the man and woman are known to each other and there are no community safety concerns. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at or call 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous." On hearing the news of the death and subsequent arrest, one neighbour told Perth Now that the woman in question is "really nice, very pleasant, polite." Ian Parrott of South Australia Police said: "I can reassure members of the community that this is not a random incident." He added: "We understand that the female who has been arrested and the deceased male both lived at this address." It's believed the pair had recently moved in together. The officer of South Australia Police added: "It is still very early stages of this investigation and it's likely that the Major Crime investigators and the forensic response members will be there most of today." The cause of death has not been concluded. At the time of speaking to local media, the victim's family had not been notified and therefore further details pertaining to the investigation could not be released. The suspect has reportedly been held under the Mental Health Act and has not sought bail. A court date has been set for December where the suspect is believed to be attending. A suppression order is now in place which will prevent the identity of the woman being released along with the victim or details regarding his death. The order is reportedly set to be under review by the court next week. The Mirror has contacted Beauty And The Geek for a comment.
