Coronation Street cast hit by fresh blow as budget cuts continue to bite
The Coronation Street cast have been hit by a fresh blow amid the ongoing budget cuts - which have seen a number of changes in the long-running ITV soap throughout the year The cast and crew of ITV soap Coronation Street are reportedly said to be "furious" over the latest impact of budget cuts. Earlier this year, it was reported the long-running soap had made changes to filming in a bid to cut back on expenses. Now, the cast and crew have been hit with another huge blow, as the latest impact has reportedly left them forking out for their own summer party. In January, it was reported the show had infuriated some of the cast by reducing the number of established characters filming inside the iconic Rovers Return pub in a bid to save money. The show has also seen a number of departures this year including Colson Smith (Craig Tinker) and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley). The latest change reportedly means the cast have had to organise their own summer party, which each person paying £22 per for the bash. They'll also be paying for drinks on top of the sum, which covers venue, entertainment and security. A source told The Sun: 'It's been a difficult few months and people were really looking forward to the party, but it puts a bit of a dampener on things that they have to pay. 'It might not be a lot to some of the bigger known stars but for some staff it is. The fact that drinks aren't included is a real blow too. People aren't really that surprised though considering the constant budget cuts.' The Mirror understands that the Coronation Street crew organised the party, not ITV bosses, and the whole team is said to be looking forward to the event. The Mirror have contacted Coronation Street and ITV for comment. The news comes months after it was announced the soap would be cutting down to five hours a week, rather than six. However, it's not the only ITV soap to have their hours cut, as Emmerdale will also follow suit. The change is set to take place at the beginning of 2026. From January, there will be a soap 'power hour', with Emmerdale airing for half an hour each day at 8pm. Coronation Street will air straight after at 8.30pm each day, again for half an hour, as the drama from the Cobbles returns to its daily offerings. However, there's also a huge positive in January for both soaps, as for the first time ever, they'll join forces in an unprecedented, one-off special episode to launch the broadcaster's new power hour. It will mark the first time a crossover has happened in British soap history, will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre.

Emmerdale teases 'edge-of-your-seat scenes' as John takes action against Robert
Emmerdale spoilers have teased life-or-death scenes for Robert Sugden and tension with John Sugden next week on the ITV soap, and the Mirror's soap insider has promised drama There's "tense" Emmerdale scenes ahead, with Robert Sugden seemingly facing a life-or-death situation next week. Ryan Hawley's character faces danger in worrying scenes, as killer John Sugden strikes again according to some rather cryptic spoilers. While it's being kept a mystery on what actually happens, what we do know is that John wants to get rid of his brother after seeing him as a threat. After finding out about his husband Aaron Dingle kissing his ex Robert, and with Robert desperate to expose him and win Aaron back, John wastes no time in seeking an opportunity to get rid of his sibling for good. Events next week reach a scary point where a lifeless Robert could well become John's next victim. The Mirror's soap insider has teased "tense" and "edge-of-your-seat" moments set to air based on the spoiler release, as fans will no doubt be screaming at their TVs for John to leave Robert alone. Spoilers revealed that after Robert is drugged by his date, John drives off with Robert in the back of his van. It's not been made clear if John has orchestrated the drugging or not, but he's soon very much involved. Robert soon finds himself at the mercy of killer John it would seem, or at least that's what the soap has teased, as he's left lifeless - and images see John looming with a syringe in his hand. But will Robert really go as far as to kill his sibling? Our soap insider shared: "There's tense scenes planned for sure, and fans will no doubt be on the edge of their seats as John makes his feelings clear. There's a perilous moment for Robert and he has no idea of the danger he's in." It all kicks off when Robert spirals, having been rejected by Aaron and his sister Victoria Sugden. As he struggles, he hits the bottle and turns to hook-ups in a bid to make Aaron jealous. It seems he lashes out at his sister too in upcoming scenes as she's sporting a black eye and he feels guilty. He moves out thinking it's for the best leaving his sibling concerned, while Robert's hopes for a job also look set to fall flat despite Caleb Miligan offering him an opportunity. John finds out and pressures him into ending the trial, and when Caleb does so it's Jai Sharma who lets slip to Robert that John was to blame. Robert confronts his half-brother, who is determined to do whatever it takes to get him out of the village. After he tries to get Victoria to report Robert for hitting her, Robert fears the worst and is devastated. This doesn't go as John plans though, and soon we see a concerning twist unfold with Robert unconscious in the back of his van. "It looks as though John is preparing to take deadly action, hovering over a lifeless Robert with a syringe in-hand," our soap insider went on. "Fans know only too well what happened the last two times John was seen wielding an syringe, with poor Nate Robinson and Aidan Moore learning the hard way." While spoilers have hinted Robert wakes up, it's yet to be revealed if there's more scenes with John or if he remains in danger. Our insider teased: "John will take whatever measure necessary to see Robert out of his life, and Aaron's. "He's rattled, he's scared and he knows the only thing that could lead to him losing Aaron for good is Robert. As far as John's concerned, his brother is in the way. Family or not, he wants him gone." But is Robert in danger, and would John really go so far? Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.

Mums and dads given firm 'responsibility' warning over term-time holidays
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told The Mirror that parents have a 'responsibility' to their kids' classmates not to take them out of school during term time A minister pleaded with parents not to take their kids out of school early for the summer holidays - saying they have a "responsibility" to their classmates. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told The Mirror that while she understands families wanting a break together, they must think of others. She said: "If children are not in school, that doesn't just have an impact on your own child, it has an impact on the whole class. "Because what teachers tell me is that they have to cover lessons over again to help children with their catch up." And she added: "If parents then choose to take their child on termtime holidays that does have knock on consequences for everyone. "And I think it's about our responsibility not just to our own children, but our responsibility to the whole school community." Ms Phillipson has previously said she would talk to travel chiefs about pricing, while her Cabinet colleague Heidi Alexander urged airlines to "do the right thing". Last year a record 443,000 fines were issued to parents taking their children out of school during term time to go on holiday - a 53% increase since before Covid. This is despite school absence fines in England going up from £60 to £80 last September - rising to £160 for a second offence within three years. But Ms Phillipson said there are "green shoots" suggesting school absences are dropping. Analysis last year found holiday package to Greece cost £748 in term time and £1,023 in the school break. And a package to Spain cost £925 in term time and £1,179 during the school holidays. In May Transport Secretary Ms Alexander admitted there was little the Government could do to force travel firms to drive down fares. Ms Alexander told The Mirror: "Airline pricing is a matter for the airlines. And I think it's a very difficult thing for the government to interfere in. We don't have any intention of interfering in those decisions of private companies, but I can understand the frustration of parents when they are looking at the comparative costs of holidays in school holidays and school holidays. "I would ask the travel industry to consider doing the right thing. But I think there are very limited levers for Government to intervene directly in this."

Victoria Beckham gushes 'love you' to Romeo and Cruz
Lady Victoria Beckham, who's husband David Beckham recently received a knighthood, shared her pride for her children on her Instagram Stories as she posted snaps of Cruz and Romeo Victoria Beckham took a moment out of her day to share her love for her sons Romeo and Cruz on social media. The fashion designer and Spice Girls icon glaringly snubbed her eldest son, Brooklyn, amid their reported family feud involving the former aspiring photographer and his wife, Nicola Peltz. The 51-year-old star took to her Instagram Stories to share a sweet photo of Cruz posing with her parents at what looked like a studio where the 20-year-old showed off his musical skills. "Proud nana and papa," Posh Spice wrote, before tagging her son and mother and added: "Love you." READ MORE: Argos knocks 50% off four-seater garden patio set with parasol ahead of heatwave She also shared a picture of Cruz and his pals rocking out as Victoria proudly watched on. She reminisced about her days in Spice Girls and wrote: "Takes me back." Hours later, the proud mother-of-four shared the cover photo from Romeo's shoot with Another Man as well as the video he filmed for the publication. Victoria's proud posts come as it was reported there are fears Brooklyn is "trapped" after purchasing a new home with socialite wife, Nicola. An insider said there were hopes that his living in America wouldn't be "permanent", but "this house purchase quashes any last hopes." Another source told The Mirror: "This house has nothing to do with family dynamics. Both Nicola and Brooklyn's careers are based in Los Angeles, and Brooklyn spent part of his childhood there while his father played for LA Galaxy." The Sun has since reported that Nicola owns the majority of the house, with a source claiming: "When it came to buying this house, of course they weren't just going to hand their son millions of pounds — what sort of message does that send?" Speaking to The Mirror, a source close to Brooklyn has slammed the thought. A source told us: "It's disappointing - and frankly absurd - that anyone would try to twist Nicola and Brooklyn's marriage, and this meaningful milestone of home ownership, into something toxic. "Their relationship is grounded in love, respect, and commitment. The suggestion that Brooklyn is 'trapped' isn't just false—it's a deliberately cruel and baseless narrative aimed at undermining a strong, loving marriage." There has been tension in the family for some while but no one thought it would become so "toxic". "The whole family is devastated by the current situation. The tension had been there for a while but no-one thought in a million years that it would turn this toxic," one insider said of the 'feud' between the two pairs, "Victoria can't fathom why Brooklyn hasn't been in touch to apologise. She's furious with him, but also heartbroken."
