Uttarakhand CM Dhami plants Sita Ashoka sapling under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at his CMO residence
Dehradun (Uttarakhand), June 5 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday planted a Sita Ashoka sapling at the Chief Minister's residence on the occasion of World Environment Day as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, according to the release statement.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister called upon the state's people to participate in this holy work and serve nature while respecting their mother. This campaign is dedicated to maternal respect and environmental protection, in which every person is encouraged to plant a tree in their mother's name.
Forest and Environment Minister Subodh Uniyal and Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also participated in the event by planting trees.
Earlier today, Dhami greeted people on World Environment Day and urged them to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' (One tree in the name of mother) by planting at least one tree and protecting the environment. '
'Conservation of nature and environment is both our cultural heritage and responsibility. Under the leadership and guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has been started to promote environmental conservation,' Dhami said in a post on X.
'Let us all promote this campaign and plant a tree in the name of Mother and ensure our participation in environmental protection,' his post added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Ek Ped Maa ke naam, an initiative that combines environmental conservation with a tribute to mothers, on June 5, 2024, exactly one year ago.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, at least 80 crore saplings were planted between June and September, through collaborative efforts from government agencies, local communities, and various stakeholders.
The Prime Minister also greeted people today, urging them to deepen their efforts to protect the planet and complimenting people working at the grassroots level for environmental conservation. (ANI)

India will celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025. To facilitate the movement of Yoga enthusiasts, Delhi Metro will start operations at 4am that day from all originating stations, according to a statement. 'Delhi Metro services will commence from 4am from all originating stations on 21st June 2025 (Saturday) to facilitate the movement of yoga enthusiasts on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, 2025,' the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation posted on X. It also said the services will be available at an interval of 30 minutes till the starting of regular services. "Services will be available on all lines at an interval of 30 minutes from 4 am onwards till the commencement of passenger services as per daily timetable", it said. As India gears up to celebrate International Yoga Day, the government is organising several events nationwide to mark the occasion. This year, the theme will be "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." Yoga Sangam, the main event, will feature a synchronised mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at over 1 lakh locations across India on June 21 from 6:30am to 7:45am. PM Narendra Modi will lead the event at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. These events will portray the shared commitment of India towards yoga and its relevance in today's world. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also confirmed that the government will hold yoga events at 11 locations across the city on June 21. She also said that due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yoga Day is being recognised on the world stage and every country is adopting Yoga with great affection.

Assam gas leak; US experts have arrived, capping of well will start on Saturday June 21: Assam CM
Sivasagar (Assam) [India], June 20 (ANI): An expert team of USA has reached India and the process of capping of ONGC Rudrasagar Field which is struggling to check the gas leak and fire for last few days, will start from Saturday, June 21, said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference. According to ONGC, a new, safer, and more practical plan is now in motion to control the leak. A team of expert engineers from the United States have arrived at the site to assist in the operation. Full-scale work under the new strategy of capping the field is set to begin tomorrow. Earlier in the day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared an update regarding the fire of ONGC Rudrasagar Field on his X handle, stating that nearly 50 per cent of the groundwork, including site preparation and equipment setup, has been completed and a team of experts from the US is about to reach the site to provide support. He posted, 'We've received an update from @ONGC on the ongoing operation at the RDS 147A well site in Sivasagar. After exploring multiple approaches with great effort and precision, ONGC is now advancing with a more practical and safer strategy to cap the leak. Close to 50% of the groundwork--such as site preparation and equipment mobilisation--has already been completed.' He added, 'A team of experts from the United States is reaching the site this evening to provide additional insights and support. Full-scale operations under the new plan are set to begin tomorrow. The Government of India and Government of Assam are monitoring the situation 24x7 and are fully committed to ensuring safety, restoring normalcy, and resolving the issue at the earliest.' So far, ONGC has tried several 'junk shot' methods using different materials and pressure techniques to stop the gas discharge. As the situation continues, an alternate route is being developed to allow safer movement to and from the well site. For safety, bunk houses and non-essential equipment are being removed from the area. Water blanketing--a method used to reduce fire risk--is ongoing around the clock. Air quality is being checked continuously, and all levels, including gas and dust particles, are reported to be within safe limits. ONGC, along with district officials, is also helping the families affected by the incident. The company has said it remains fully committed to protecting the safety of the local community and the environment. The Government of India and the Government of Assam are monitoring the situation closely and are working together to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible. (ANI)

AI 171 crash: 202 bodies handed over and 220 victims identified, says Gujarat Minister Rushikesh Patel
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 20 (ANI): Almost a week after the deadly Air India crash that took place in Ahmedabad, DNA samples of 220 victims had been matched with their families and the mortal remains of 202 passengers have been released, announced Gujarat Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Rushikesh Patel on Friday. In a post on X, Rushikesh Patel wrote, 'UPDATED UP TO :- 20/06/2025 , 11:45 A.M. NO. OF DNA MATCH - 220, NO. OF RELATIVES CONTACTED- 220, NO. OF MORTAL RELEASED- 202.' Of the 220 victims identified in the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad, 151 were Indian nationals, 34 were British, 7 Portuguese, one was Canadian, and 9 were non-passengers. So far, 202 bodies have been handed over, 15 sent by air and 187 by ambulance, while the remaining mortal remains will be released soon. 'Indians 151, Portuguese 7, British 34, Canada 1, Non passengers AIR - 15, By road via ambulance - Mortal remains will be handed over soon,' the post further reads. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said that the flight AI-171, which crashed shortly after taking off in Ahmedabad on June 12, was 'well-maintained' and both the aircraft and its engines were regularly monitored, showing no issue before the flight. In a wordy statement for its customers, Air India's CEO informed that the plane had undergone its last major check in June 2023, while its right engine was overhauled in March of this year, and the left engine was inspected in April 2025. 'The plane was well-maintained, with its last major check in June 2023 and the next scheduled for December 2025. Its right engine was overhauled in March 2025, and the left engine was inspected in April 2025. Both the aircraft and engines were regularly monitored, showing no issues before the flight,' Campbell Wilson said. Air India CEO assured that they are working with the aviation industry and waiting for the official investigation report to provide more information about the crash in which 241 out of the 242 passengers on board were killed after the plane crashed into the BJ Medical college's boys hostel building. Campbell Wilson further added that Air India has completed inspection on 26 Boeing 787 aircraft out of 33 of its aircraft as per the directions of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) after the tragedy. He added that following the review of Air India aircraft, the DGCA has confirmed that our Boeing 787 fleet and maintenance processes fully meet safety standards. On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. (ANI)
