The countdown to World Cup soccer is officially on.
Wednesday, June 11 marks one year until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be played in cities across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Philadelphia is among the host cities preparing to welcome soccer fans from around the world next year. To celebrate, city leaders are unveiling the FIFA World Cup countdown clock in Dilworth Park Wednesday afternoon.
CBS News Philadelphia will carry the event live at 10 a.m. in the player above and on our YouTube channel.
The year 2026 is shaping up to be a busy one for the City of Brotherly Love. Along with hosting five of the World Cup's Group Stage matches, Philadelphia is the site of the MLB All-Star Game, NCAA March Madness and the PGA Championship, and is set to host a large slate of other events to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

Before the official 2026 FIFA World Cup, there will be plenty of soccer to watch in Philadelphia in 2025.
Philadelphia is host eight matches in the new FIFA Club World Cup tournament, which will be played Lincoln Financial Field from June 16 through July 4.
Stockton University in Galloway Township, New Jersey, will serve as one of the training sites for the players and staff with Brazil's CR Flamengo, which has millions of followers worldwide.

Van Lith is still trying to figure out her role in Chicago, but that hasn't stopped her from making an impact. The TCU product is currently averaging 5.2 points and 1.3 assists per game for the Sky. Despite getting off to a respectable start this season, Van Lith has been publicly called out by a five-time WNBA All-Star. During an appearance on the "Let Her Shoot" podcast, Angel McCoughtry questioned if Van Lith is in the WNBA because of her social media following. Giants pitcher Sean Hjelle accused of abuse by wife, MLB investigating

Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants said Major League Baseball is looking into allegations of abuse made by the wife of reliever Sean Hjelle. Caroline Hjelle made a post on TikTok on Friday of her with the couple's two children with a caption that said: 'When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after this (video was taken) once I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I've been raising two boys alone.' The Giants said in a statement Saturday that they are 'aware of these serious allegations' and that MLB is handling it. Manager Bob Melvin said before Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox that Hjelle would be available to pitch. 'Obviously we're aware of it,' Melvin said. 'He told me about it last night. We talked to MLB. At this point, it's in their jurisdiction right now so I really can't comment on it further.' Hjelle took the loss in Friday night's game against the Red Sox, allowing a tiebreaking homer to Ceddanne Rafaela in the sixth inning.
