While the usual suspects are likely to be in the running this season - Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all included as well as the aforementioned Manchester duo - it's those without silverware in recent years who will hope to challenge into the latter stages, such as Newcastle United, Everton and even Chelsea, who are without a domestic trophy in over six years despite European success.

Liverpool's stance on Marc Guehi transfer emerges as £35m deal gets green light
Liverpool are expected to continue splashing the cash in the transfer market after confirming the club-record signing of Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz Liverpool have already splashed some serious cash this summer after confirming deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, but the newly minted Premier League champions have no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Arne Slot and Co are still seeking fresh faces in other areas, including at left-back with a deal for Milos Kerkez close. And there could be more new recruits in defence before the 2025-26 campaign kicks off amid links to the Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi. While more incomings are expected, outgoings are all but guaranteed. Darwin Nunez is likely to be among them after a poor season in front of goal and there is interest in the striker. There are also still contracts to sort with Ibrahima Konate emerging as the Reds' new top priority with his deal up next summer. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news from in and around Anfield... Guehi stance emerges Liverpool will not be held to ransom by Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi this summer with the champions only willing to press ahead with a move if the price is right. Guehi, 24, has plenty of suitors among the Premier League's elite with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle also understood to be keen on the England star. And with just 12 months remaining on his deal, Palace are not in as strong a bargaining position as they were when interest in their star defender surfaced last summer. But with Liverpool unwilling to pay big money for Guehi, Palace may have to do a deal in order to avoid losing the former Chelsea man for nothing next year. £35m defender deal agreed Jarell Quansah will join Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga outfit and Liverpool struck a deal worth £35million for the centre-back. Quansah had been linked with a Premier League move heading into the summer, but Leverkusen emerged as serious contenders for his signature last week. And with the cash generated from their record sale of Florian Wirtz to Anfield, Leverkusen have shook hands on a deal which will see Liverpool bank a guaranteed £30m for Quansah with the potential for a further £5m in add-ons. Next signing 'leaked' Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out a potential 'leak' from Gary Lineker after he referenced Milos Kerkez as a Liverpool player on the Rest is Football podcast. Kerkez is widely expected to put pen to paper on a switch to Liverpool after a package worth £40million was agreed with Bournemouth last week. But with no deal yet confirmed, an innocent mishap set tongues wagging over the weekend. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Antonio Rudiger accuses Club World Cup opponent of racism in Real Madrid game
Real Madrid star Antonio Rudiger has accused Gustavo Cabral of racial abuse during his team's Club World Cup victory over Pachuca on Sunday. The alleged incident occurred in stoppage time as Rudiger was seen approaching referee Ramon Abatti after an exchange with his opponent. Cabral, a defender for Mexican club Pachuca, is alleged to have called Rudiger a 'negro de mierda' – a Spanish insult that translates as 'f***ing n*****' – sources inside the stadium have claimed to the Daily Mail. It should be noted that Cabral has disputed the claim, stating he had instead called Rudiger a 'cagon de mierda', meaning 'f***ing coward'. FIFA are set to investigate the alleged incident after the referee activated the anti-discrimination protocol with a crossed-arms gesture. Quizzed if Rudiger had been the victim of racism during the game, Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso told a press conference: 'Toni told us something, we support Toni and we will see what happens. 'I think the FIFA protocol has been activated to investigate, but if it has happened, all measures should be taken and we support Antonio because it's something unacceptable. 'In football there is no tolerance for this, and if it happened, then measures should be taken. This is what Antonio has told us and we believe him. It's being investigated now.' Pachuca head coach Jaime Lozano was also asked about the incident – but said he was unaware of what had happened. 'I just found out from you, you are letting me know, we did not talk about it in the dressing room,' he said. 'I haven't spoken to Cabral about this, I cannot give you an explanation about it because this is the first [I have heard of] this news. More Trending 'It cannot be justified at all but I will talk to him, I've known him for a little while and and I have never heard of something like that with Pachuca players.' Real Madrid won the match 3-1 despite being reduced to 10 men after just seven minutes, with Raúl Asencio shown an early red card. Goals from Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Federico Valverde put the Spanish side in control before Elías Montiel scored for the Mexican side with 10 minutes to go. Real Madrid are back in Club World Cup action on Friday when they face fellow European side Red Bull Salzburg in Group H. Man Utd urged to complete shock transfer for 'physical' Premier League star
Manchester United have been urged to sign 'physical' Premier League star Beto from Everton this summer in what would be a shock move. United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen for a new-look strike force at Old Trafford with the Red Devils linked to a number of attacking players. Matheus Cunha has already joined United from Wolves and Amorim is reportedly keen to recruit Viktor Gyokeres from his old club Sporting CP. But Fernando Lopes is convinced that Beto would be a better choice for United, despite the striker scoring just 15 goals in 71 games for Everton. Lopes, the president of Portuguese club Uniao Tires, where Beto started his career, told The Sun: 'Everyone thought Amorim would sign Gyokeres as he had him at Sporting – but the Premier League is completely different to Portugal. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. 'Teams are more physical and compact at the back, it is quicker and more competitive. 'Gyokeres would struggle to play as a lone No. 9 waiting for service. 'Beto's a more physical player, who fights with defenders and doesn't lose duels. 'He is a real headache for opponents – if he gets the service. 'In their golden era, United always scored a lot of goals from set-pieces but haven't had a proper striker for many seasons. 'Nowadays, teams have small, quick strikers or a false forward because there is an obsession for possession of the ball. 'Beto represents the typical old style, because of his physique, power and work-rate – plus he is very fast. 'When [David] Moyes went to Everton he showed what a handful he is for defenders to stop. 'He'd be like Amorim's ace up his sleeve in a game of poker.' More Trending Everton paid around €30m (£25.8m) to sign Beto from Italian club Udinese in the summer of 2023. The 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international scored eight Premier League goals across 30 top-flight games in the 2024-25 campaign. Beto is currently under contract at Everton until the summer of 2027. 'One of Beto's attributes is the fighting spirit first injected at Tires,' Lopes added. 'He has had the attitude of never giving up since he was a boy. I'd love to see him in a more attacking team because if he has the service, he will definitely score around 20.'
