Arsenal urged to sign 'unfairly treated' £40m Man City star

Arsenal have been urged to make a move for Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish this summer. City are open to selling Grealish after he fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola last season. Grealish, who has been omitted from City's Club World Cup squad this summer, started just seven games in the Premier League last season and was left on the bench for the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final. City have had no takers for Grealish after setting a £40 million asking price but Colin Hendry, who won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, believes Arsenal should be in the running for the 29-year-old. 'It looks like Jack's City days are numbered,' Hendry told Coin Poker. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. 'He's been left out of the Club World Cup squad and he didn't play nearly enough football last season. It's going to be a big summer for him and he's got some big decisions to make, possibly the biggest decision of his career in terms of making sure that whichever club he decides to join next season, it's the right one for him. 'Jack is a player that I've followed for a long time. When I was working as the Blackburn academy coach, we played Villa and he was the best player on the pitch by miles. I've kind of been following him since, and he's gone and had an unbelievable career. 'I think he's unfairly treated sometimes. People have ideas about him that I don't think are true. 'You can't win what he has done and have the career he's had – getting the £100m move to City – winning the treble, without having something about you. He's been a scapegoat sometimes. More Trending 'He's an excellent footballer and now he has a decision to make. It's a great position for him to be in because he leave's City with a shed-load of medals and the opportunity to go and show everyone who he is as a player. He absolutely must pick the right club that will allow him to express himself. 'I want to see him go and prove people wrong, even though he doesn't really have anything to prove to anyone. 'Whether that is in the Premier League, with say a return to Aston Villa, or somewhere on the continent. 'Whoever gets him will be getting an unbelievable player. I actually think he could be a good addition for a team like Arsenal because they're in need of a bit more creativity.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Palace braced for Marc Guehi bid from Liverpool after identifying replacement

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is being eyed by a series of top Premier League clubs but Liverpool are now in the driving seat to land the 24-year-old England international Crystal Palace are expecting Liverpool to make a formal offer for club captain Marc Guehi as talks continue with Sporting CP over a potential deal for his replacement, Ousmane Diomande. Guehi is swiftly approaching the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and the Eagles are ready to cash in on their beloved skipper following last month's historic FA Cup triumph to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026. Liverpool are not the only side interested in the 24-year-old but Arne Slot's Premier League champions are now emerging as clear favourites to land Guehi as Palace also step up their pursuit of Ivory Coast international Diomande. ‌ The highly-coveted 21-year-old is believed to have a £68million release clause written into his Sporting deal and while Palace are not prepared to put that kind of money on table, they are willing to smash their club-record to land the talented centre-back. ‌ They have already made progress on personal terms, Diomande is open to the move and Palace have good relations with the player's agency ROOF, who also represent left wing-back Tyrick Mitchell. Oliver Glasner has personally approved a swoop for Diomande as there is confidence he has big potential and crucially, there is belief he can play in multiple roles within the Austrian's three-man defensive line. Newcastle, who have long courted Guehi, are also among Diomande's admirers and Ruben Amorim's former starlet has also been linked with Manchester United in the past 12 months. Now Palace are working on an agreement and while club-to-club discussions have now taken place, there is still a notable gap in valuation between the parties at this moment in time. Selling Guehi would undoubtedly bolster the Eagles' spending power, though Liverpool have already intimated they would be prepared to wait 12 months to get their man on a free, if required. ‌ The Three Lions defender also has interest from Arsenal and former club Chelsea but Liverpool are expected to step up their pursuit of the player as Jarrell Quansah is close to joining German club Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal. The agreement is now in the final stages and is expected to be worth £30m upfront plus £5m in bonuses. Slot has been keen to bolster his defensive options and Liverpool had also looked at Dean Huijsen before the Spaniard opted to join Real Madrid in a £50m move. Ibrahima Konate is also set to enter the final 12 months of his contract next month and while further discussions over fresh terms are expected to take place, there is a high likelihood he could run down his Anfield deal amid interest from Los Blancos. The Reds are on course to announce the £116.5m British-record signing of Florian Wirtz, who is in the North West for his medical tests, and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also poised to follow suit.

Here are the latest transfer rumours surrounding Scottish football on Friday morning, including Rangers, Celtic, Liverpool and more. Ross County capture ex-Sunderland man Ross County have confirmed the signing of former Sunderland defender Ben Crompton on a two-year-contract as boss Don Cowie continues to revamp his Staggies squad following their relegation to the Scottish Championship. The 21-year-defender was released by the Stadium of Light outfit at the end of last season having been unable to break into their first team squad, but featured regularly for Tamworth in the National League after joining them on loan in the second-half of last season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad He was particularly impressive in their FA Cup third round tie against Tottenham Hotspur, where he came up against Timo Werner and Spurs captain Son Heung-min, with the fifth tier side taking them all the way to extra-time. 'We are really happy Ben has chosen to join us,' said Staggies boss Cowie. 'He had a really productive loan spell with Tamworth last season, and he offers a strong ability on the ball as well as an imposing physical presence.' Ex-Sunderland defender Ben Crompton has moved to Scotland. Liverpool 'make Robertson decision' Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is 'ready to allow' Scotland captain Andy Robertson to leave Anfield this summer as they edge closer to the megabucks signing of Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. The 31-year-old has interest from Atletico Madrid, with his place in the Reds starting XI now under serious threat amid the pending arrival of Hungarian international Kerkez. Should the Cherries defender arrive in the coming days, it will leave Liverpool with three left-backs on their books vying for one spot, with fellow full-back Kostas Tsimikas also said to be courting interest from Leeds United. However, according to a new report, Slot is 'prepared to cash in' on Robertson, with the ex-Dundee United man said to favour a move to La Liga rather than remain in the English Premier League. The 25-year-old is expected to leave Celtic Park this summer having fallen down the pecking order at the club. He spent the second-half of last season on loan in the Greek Super League with Olympiacos, but will not return to Erythrolefki after they opted against taking up the option to make his deal permanent. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Despite being out of favour at club level, he was handed a start for his international side as they faced Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup match on Wednesday, but was hauled off at half-time with his side 3-0 down. "It's one of my lowest moments in my career,' said Palma in the aftermath of the defeat. We have to accept we are going through a very difficult time at the moment. But we all know that was nowhere near acceptable. Now we have to use this as a learning experience for the rest of the tournament. The whole team is devastated by this setback. Luis Palma has an uncertain future at Celtic. | AFP via Getty Images Dundee mull over deal for ex-Hibs man Dundee head coach Steven Pressley is mulling over a former Hibs and St Mirren midfielder Kyle Magennis after taking the 26-year-old on trial. The former Scotland Under-21 international is a free agent after being released by Kilmarnock last month following an injury-plagued couple of years at Rugby Park, but has been offered a chance to prove himself after being offered a trail with the Den's Park side, who returned to pre-season training this week. New boss Pressley, who replaced Tony Docherty earlier this month, will also run the rule over ex-Burnley academy player Tommy McDermott, who was released from Turf Moor last month. Both players have previously worked alongside technical manager David Longwell. Meanwhile, the club have confirmed the departures of Joe Shaughnessy, Antonio Portales, Mo Sylla and Scott Fraser following the expiration of their contracts. Kyle Magennis is on trial at Dundee following his release from Kilmarnock. | SNS Group Rangers 'set for transfer offer' Rangers are set to receive a 'formal' offer for star striker Hamza Igamane this month, as interest in the Moroccan international heats up. The 22-year-old has interest from English Premier League sides Everton and West Ham United, though it has been reported that the Ibrox hierarchy would request a 'huge price' should any side want to make an offer for his services. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad However, according to a new report, West Ham are now in a position to launch an official bid for the forward. 'West Ham are about make a formal move for Igamane,' ex-scout Mick Brown told Football Insider. They've had scouts up there watching him and he's one of the names on their radar. But I'm told they're not convinced he's ready to make the step up to the Premier League. He's looked impressive for Rangers at times, but he's playing in a side which finished 17 points short of Celtic, so it's a difficult one to judge.' Rangers striker Hamza Igamane is in demand this summer. | SNS Group Celtic 'edge closer' to finalising move Celtic look set to complete their second signing of the summer, after Fulham youngster Callum Osmand was spotted at their Lennoxtown training ground on Thursday, as per a report from the Herald. Brendan Rodgers has already completed the Bosman free transfer signing of former hero Kieran Tierney, and has had a bid of £1.7million accepted for Swedish international Benjamin Nygren by FC Nordsjælland, as he looks to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and in the Champions League next season.

13 Teams Joining M-League 2025-2026, Sri Pahang Stay Out

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- Sri Pahang FC have confirmed that they will not participate in the Malaysia League (M-League) this season despite being granted a National License by the First Instance Body (FIB). The Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced in a statement that the 'Elephants' squad, which received the 2025/26 national license, has decided not to compete in the M-League by submitting a confirmation letter dated June 16. The decision will see 13 teams participating in the new season which will begin on August 8. bootstrap slideshow "All clubs have been granted the 2025-2026 National License by the independent First Instance Body (FIB) with the club from Brunei, DPMM FC, being granted approval from the International Football Association Board (FIFA) and the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) to compete in the 2025-2026 Malaysia League. "However, Sri Pahang FC, which also received the 2025-2026 National License, have decided not to compete in the Malaysia League this season by submitting a confirmation letter dated 16 June 2025," said MFL in a statement issued on its Facebook page today. According to MFL, the clubs competing in the championship this time are Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT), Selangor FC, Penang FC, Kuching City FC, Sabah FC, Terengganu FC, Negeri Sembilan FC, Kelantan Darul Naim FC, Kuala Lumpur City FC, PDRM FC and DPMM FC and two clubs from AFL A1, namely Melaka FC and Imigresen FC. Commenting further, MFL announced that this season's Malaysian League calendar will begin with a clash between JDT, the Super League champion and Selangor, the Super League runners-up in the Charity Shield match on August 8, 2025, which is also the league's opening match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Johor. Meanwhile, the FA Cup tournament will begin in mid-August, the Malaysia Cup and MFL Challenge Cup in January 2026. MFL also announced that this season's Malaysian League calendar will run for 10 months, after last season's adjustment which lasted 14 months to align the schedule with international leagues.

Sri Pahang's M-League withdrawal a 'reset,' says club legend

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Jamal Nasir believes Sri Pahang 's withdrawal from the 2025-26 M-League should not be viewed as a failure but as a reset. The football legend, who starred for the Elephants in the 1970s, said the club must have had valid reasons to pull out of next season's competition and hopes it will allow them to regroup for a stronger return. While he admits the decision is deeply saddening, Jamal urged fans to remain calm and understanding. "It's heartbreaking, of course. This club once stood among the best in the Super League and even made it to the Malaysia Cup final. Now they're stepping away, and it's not easy to accept," he said. "I'm sad too, but what can we do? I'm sure there are unavoidable reasons behind this. Even though they obtained their national licence, perhaps there are internal issues that need to be resolved first." The Malaysian Football League (MFL) confirmed on Friday that Sri Pahang had submitted their withdrawal letter on June 16. The team's absence is a major blow to Malaysian football, considering their rich legacy in domestic competitions. The Elephants have won multiple titles throughout the years, including the Super League, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup. Their most recent silverware was the FA Cup in 2018, when they beat Selangor 2-0 in the final. Jamal highlighted the team's past financial struggles, including unpaid salaries, and urged fans not to point fingers. "Don't blame anyone. The management must've thought this through carefully. "Maybe taking one step back is necessary, so they can come back stronger later. I'm staying positive. This decision could be the beginning of something better for the club." Sri Pahang finished eighth in the 2024-25 Super League and were runners-up in the Malaysia Cup, making their sudden withdrawal all the more shocking. With their exit, only 13 clubs remain for the 2025-26 season — Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), Selangor, Penang, Kuching City, Sabah, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan Darul Naim, KL City, Police, DPMM, Melaka and Immigration.
