The five best transfers in Michigan State football history
The transfer portal has become synonymous with college sports these days, with schools starting to look at the portal like free agency, almost. It's become imperative to be able to find high-level talent in the portal.
Michigan State football hasn't had a ton of high-profile transfers, but the ones who have hit, have hit well. We put together our list of the top five transfers in school history below, and interestingly, three of them, and both honorable mentions, transferred to MSU before the quote-unquote transfer portal era truly began.
Honorable Mentions
Keith Nichol
Keith Nichol might not have put up the biggest numbers in the world, but the former Oklahoma quarterback recruit was responsible for some of the biggest plays in MSU history and earns a mention on this list.
DeAndra' Cobb
DeAndra' Cobb made the All-American team for his spectacular kick return skills, of which he returned four kickoffs for touchdowns in his career, one shy of the Big Ten record. He still holds the MSU record for three kickoff returns for touchdowns in one season.
5. Jonathan Kim
You probably didn't think you'd see a special teams player on this, huh? Well, Jonathan Kim won't be the last, but he is the first we'll talk about. Jonathan Kim was a major success story for Michigan State. Coming in and setting a school record and making the All-Big Ten team was very impressive for a kicker who was largely resigned to kickoffs at North Carolina, and he earned himself this spot.
4. Domata Peko
Domata Peko was playing NFL football as recently as 2020. That's pretty insane considering he was a John L. Smith recruit, transferring in from the College of the Canyons. Peko was a beloved Spartan and sneakily one of the better MSU alumni in the NFL in recent history.
3. Bryce Baringer
Now, we get to the second special teams player on our list, and it's a doozy. Bryce Baringer isn't just a good punter, he is the best punter in school history, which is saying something, because MSU has had some great ones over the years. I almost forgot that he started his career at Illinois, but thankfully, he made his way up to East Lansing, and the rest is history.
2. Jayden Reed
Before Jayden Reed became one of the most exciting players in the NFL, he started his career, believe it or not, at Western Michigan. His transfer to MSU was one of the last great acts from legendary MSU coach Mark Dantonio. Reed made two All-Big Ten teams before heading to the next level.
1. Kenneth Walker III
Was there ever a doubt who was number one on this list? Kenneth Walker III isn't just the best transfer in MSU history, he is one of the best transfers in modern NCAA football history. Disgruntled Michigan State fans will still tell you that the man they called K9 should have been the Heisman Trophy winner that year, and if he wasn't banged up by the time the Spartans played Ohio State, who knows what could have happened that year. It's one of the great what-ifs in MSU history.

Analyst Not Sold On Bills As Super Bowl Threat

Analyst Not Sold On Bills As Super Bowl Threat originally appeared on Athlon Sports. We are at the stage of the offseason where some are picking their Super Bowl favorites, and many have the Buffalo Bills as one team that could easily claim the Lombardi Trophy. Advertisement Josh Allen is the defending MVP, the offseason acquisitions on both sides of the ball, plus a weak division, Buffalo looks likely to be the AFC East bully yet again. However, the Bills making the playoffs is low-hanging fruit and is the bare minimum expected. Buffalo is a genuine Super Bowl contender. But the big question is can the Bills actually win it? For NFL analyst and former linebacker Bart Scott, the AFC is too loaded. 'First of all, they need to make sure that James Cook is happy, but so many other obstacles in his way,' Scott said on ESPN's GetUp. 'Joe Burrow can get his team to the postseason, but also Lamar Jackson, so I'm going to say no, the field is too strong, if I had to pick, I'll pick the field.' Mandatory Credit: Mark Konezny-Imagn ImagesMark Konezny-Imagn Images The AFC does have more than its fair share of contenders. Advertisement The Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and Baltimore Ravens are the top three, and then we have the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers as improvers. There are quite a few teams the Bills are facing, but if we're being honest, only one team really stands out, and it's Kansas City. Buffalo, when the playoffs roll around, just can't beat Patrick Mahomes, and in its last four postseason games, it is 0-4. That needs to change, but also the Ravens and Bengals loom large, so there won't be any shortage of tough challengers the Bills will need to overcome if they are to claim their first-ever Super Bowl in 2025. The Chiefs Have Cut 2 Players From Their Roster

The Chiefs Have Cut 2 Players From Their Roster originally appeared on The Spun. The Kansas City Chiefs have cut two players from their roster this weekend. Kansas City is hoping to rebound from a tough Super Bowl 59 loss in 2025. The Chiefs fell to the Eagles, 40-22, in Super Bowl 59. Kansas City was looking to become the first team in modern NFL history to three-peat, but Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley had other plans. Kansas City officially cut tight end Kevin Foelsch and offensive guard Tremayne Anchrum Jr. on Friday, according to the NFL's transactions report. The Chiefs made these moves after signing players at similar positions. Kansas City had signed tight end Geor'Quarius Spivey and offensive lineman Joey Lombard, earlier in the offseason. The moves have since become official. Advertisement Kansas City is adding some tight end depth, as Travis Kelce enters what could be his final season. "I think the biggest thing is that I f------ love playing the game of football," Kelce said of his decision to return in 2025. "I love playing. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don't think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past. I want to give it a good run. I got a bad taste in my mouth in how I ended last year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was to the people around me. "I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility, in the community, and it's home for me now. I don't want to leave that life yet. I put in a lot of hard work and I put in a lot of focus into being the best that I can for K.C. Last year it didn't end well for us. I just feel like there's a responsibility in me to play out the contract that I initially signed, to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything that I've got, and that's what I'm going to do, man." The Chiefs will open the 2025 regular season on Sept. 5 against the Chargers. Warriors React to Draymond Green's Behavior in New Video

Warriors React to Draymond Green's Behavior in New Video originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As fans across the Bay Area settled in for the start of the NBA offseason, the Golden State Warriors dropped a video clip on Saturday that highlighted just how far Draymond Green has come since entering the league. Advertisement In the short video, Green reads aloud a pre-draft scouting report from his college days at Michigan State. Evaluators labeled him a "tweener, undersized for a physical four, yet lacks the athleticism of a wing," and concluded he offered "minimal upside" and was "vulnerable defending quicker guards on the perimeter." By the end of the video, Green couldn't contain himself, simply laughing off the doubters. As a senior at Michigan State, Green earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors, was named a consensus first-team All-American and led the Spartans to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012. That season, he also won Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year and NABC National Player of the Year. Advertisement Yet despite all of his collegiate accolades, Green slipped to the second round of the 2012 NBA draft, going 35th overall to Golden State. What followed was a transformation that few franchises enjoy. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (23).© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Green quickly cemented himself as the defensive leader of Steve Kerr's Warriors, whose identity shifted in 2014-15 toward a small-ball, high-pace attack. Green's versatility, capable of guarding all five positions, and his playmaking as a "point forward" became hallmarks of Golden State's so-called "Death Lineup." Between 2015 and 2022, Green helped the Warriors capture four NBA championships and set a league record with 73 regular season wins in 2016. Advertisement Individually, Green is a four-time All-Star, 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, nine-time All-Defensive Team member (five First Team) and led the league in steals in 2017.
