Every petrol pump in Indore told to set up PUC centre in 15 days

'We are constantly trying to improve the air quality of the city. We have found that most of the pollution in the city is caused by vehicle emissions. In view of this, we will ensure that PUC centres are set up at all petrol pumps in the city,' he told reporters after a meeting of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Indore collector Ashish Singh said petrol pump operators in the Madhya Pradesh city, a commercial hub, are being given 15 days to set up PUC (pollution under control) centres in their premises.
Indore, Jun 20 (PTI) In a move to improve air quality in Indore, the administration has decided to make it mandatory for every petrol pump to have a pollution testing and certification centre to detect vehicle emission levels in the country's cleanest city, an official said on Friday.
The collector warned of action if the directive was not implemented within the stipulated time.
'If a PUC centre is not found to be operational at any petrol pump after 15 days, then a decision can be taken to close that gas station,' he asserted.
The administration will also examine whether or not proper procedure is being followed in issuing 'fitness' certificates to vehicles, the IAS officer maintained.
The senior bureaucrat affirmed in order to improve air quality, the administration is trying to ensure factories that traditionally use coal as fuel start using green alternatives.
According to a study conducted by 'Clean Air Catalyst', a global coalition working to improve air quality, vehicular pollution and road dust have a 70 per cent contribution to the deteriorating air quality in the state's commercial capital.
Indore has topped the National Swachh Survekshan for seven consecutive times. The city is now in the race for the 'Super Swachh League' in the cleanliness survey of the year 2024.
This league has been introduced for the first time for a separate competition between cities performing excellently in cleanliness.
In the 'Super Swachh League', Indore has been placed along with Navi Mumbai and Surat in the category of cities with a population of more than 10 lakh. PTI HWP MAS RSY

Sun TV Network Defends Promoter Kalanithi, Says All Legal Obligations Met

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Sun TV Network in a regulatory filing says the agreements between the two brothers had been "duly vetted" by "intermediaries" concerned before the company's public issue. A day after reports emerged of former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran accusing his brother of 'fraudulent practices" and 'misgovernance", the elder sibling Kalanithi-run Sun TV on Friday said the division between the promoter family done 22 years back was in compliance with all legal obligations. Defending its promoter Kalanithi, Sun TV Network in a regulatory filing said the agreements between the two brothers had been 'duly vetted" by 'intermediaries" concerned before the company's public issue. According to reports, Dayanidhi has sent a legal notice to his brother and several others, accusing them of 'fraudulent practices" and 'misgovernance" in taking control of Sun TV after their father Murasoli Maran's death in 2003. Dayanidhi, who is also a Lok Sabha member from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has sought to restore the company's shareholding structure to its pre-September 2003 status. The board of Sun TV Network is led by Kalanithi as Executive Director and Chairperson. His daughter Kavya Kalanithi Maran is also on the south-based broadcaster board. Kalanithi, as a promoter, owns 75 per cent shareholding in Sun TV Network. On Friday, Sun TV Network, in its regulatory filing said, 'The alleged matter dates back to 22 years when the company was a closely held private limited company." Defending the promoter, it further stated, 'Statements allegedly made in the articles are incorrect, misleading, speculating, defamatory and not supported by facts or law". 'We wish to inform that all acts have been done in accordance with legal obligations and the same had been duly vetted by concerned intermediaries before the public issue of the company," it said. Moreover, Sun TV Network also said the media reports claiming a rift between the promoter Maran brothers 'does not have any bearing on the business of the company or its day-to-day functioning". Sun TV Network also clarified that it is a 'family matter of the promoter" and is 'purely personal in nature". Besides Kalanithi, financial institutions, including mutual funds and insurance companies, own 10.46 per cent of the shareholding of Sun TV and 6.87 per cent by the foreign portfolio investors. Markets snap 3-day losing run; Sensex jumps 1,000 pts as financial, telecom shares gain

The 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 319.15 points or 1.29 per cent to 25,112.40. A largely supportive trend overseas and renewed foreign capital inflows supported domestic equities following signs of easing tension in the Middle East, traders said. After a flat start, the BSE Sensex later found its mojo back and surged 1,046.30 points or 1.29 per cent to settle at 82,408.17. During the day, it jumped 1,132.62 points or 1.39 per cent to 82,494.49. Mumbai, Jun 20 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded sharply by over 1 per cent on Friday after sliding for the past three sessions, propelled by bargain hunting in financial, telecom and tech stocks amid a correction in global crude prices. As many as 2,463 stocks advanced while 1,484 declined and 147 remained unchanged on the BSE. This week, the BSE benchmark gauge jumped 1,289.57 points or 1.58 per cent, and the Nifty surged 393.8 points or .59 per cent. 'Equity indices surged as Middle East tension moderated with risk of immediate military actions reduced as US dialogue with Iran is expected to take place. The development led the crude price to correct, favouring domestic markets and boosting foreign investors' sentiments. 'In the broader market, rapid fall in VIX index and buying was witnessed in rate sensitives and consumer-oriented sectors like Finance, Auto and Reality and in anticipation of better Q1FY26 results led by rate cuts benefits, drop in inflationary pressure and rebound in consumer spending,' Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said. From the Sensex firms, Bharti Airtel, Nestle, Mahindra & Mahindra, Power Grid, Reliance Industries, NTPC, Eternal and HDFC Bank were among the biggest gainers. In contrast, Maruti was the only laggard. The BSE midcap gauge jumped 1.20 per cent, and smallcap index climbed 0.55 per cent. All BSE sectoral indices ended higher. Telecommunication surged 2.73 per cent, realty (2.22 per cent), teck (1.42 per cent), capital goods (1.17 per cent), bankex (1.15 per cent), consumer discretionary (1.12 per cent) and metal (1.10 per cent). 'Sentiment improved after the news report indicated a possible de-escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict, with the US signalling a delay in potential action, which led to a softening in crude oil prices. Additionally, consistent buying by FIIs in the cash segment further supported the market,' Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. In Asian markets, South Korea's Kospi and Hong Kong's Hang Seng settled in positive territory, while Japan's Nikkei 225 index and Shanghai's SSE Composite index ended lower. Markets in Europe were trading higher in mid-session trade. US markets were closed on Thursday for the Juneteenth holiday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude dropped 1.93 per cent to USD 77.33 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 934.62 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also bought equities worth Rs 605.97 crore. On Thursday, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 82.79 points, or 0.10 per cent, to settle at 81,361.87. The Nifty dipped 18.80 points or 0.08 per cent to 24,793.25. 'In the absence of any major domestic events, global markets will continue to guide sentiment. We maintain our positive yet cautious stance and advise focusing on stock selection, particularly in line with sectoral trends,' Mishra said.
