Popeyes sparks fast food war with McDonald's as snack wrap release date announced

Daily Mail04-06-2025

Popeyes is unleashing its competitive side after adding Chicken Wraps to its menus this week - as McDonald's finally announced the return date of the beloved Snack Wrap.
Popeyes' Chicken Wraps come with lettuce, shredded cheese, and pickles with a choice of Classic, Spicy, or Honey Mustard sauce.
'We wanted to create a Chicken Wrap that was undeniably Popeyes,' said the chain's VP of Culinary Innovation Amy Alarcon.
The wraps, available for a limited time, include nearly every ingredient one sees on McDonald's beloved Snack Wraps.
The McDonald's item had been a longtime fan favorite item that customers have been waiting for since its 2016 discontinuation.
The item, which came with the choice of ranch or honey mustard, was made of grilled or crispy chicken, lettuce, and shredded cheese.
The new McDonald's wrap, which will come with a spicy or ranch spread, is set to return at participating locations on July 10, the chain announced Tuesday.
While thousands of customers have been reacting to McDonald's Snack Wraps, Popeyes has been busy hinting its intentions to beat the restaurant chain in a fast food war.
McDonald's ranch or spicy-flavored Snack Wraps will be available to purchase at participating locations on July 10
Popeyes began its quest on May 30 by mimicking a cryptic X post McDonald's made in April.
McDonald's wrote 'Snack wraps 0x14.2025,' making customers believe they would return on the 14th of a month this year.
The chicken chain responded on May 30 with 'chicken wraps 0x.02.2025,' which signaled the item would appear in two days on June 2.
Popeyes also responded to this morning's Snack Wrap announcement from McDonald's by writing '... y'all good?.'
The brand poked fun at the length of the McDonald's social media announcement, writing: 'i ain't reading all that - i'm happy for u tho - or sorry that happened.'
As of now, McDonald's has yet to clap back, but its fans were more than thrilled to finally learn the Snack Wrap's release date.
Popeyes fans were also excited to try one of its Chicken Wraps and were intrigued by the chains' relationship.
'Popeyes and McDonalds beefing was not on my bingo card,' an X user wrote.

Social media users either rooted for McDonald's or Popeyes, while others were entertained by the disses
The battle between McDonald's and Popeyes is nothing new in the fast food world.
The restaurant chains challenged one another back in 2019 during the early years of the chicken sandwich wars.
Popeyes had already been in a battle with Chick-fil-A over the brands' chicken sandwiches. McDonald's took it to another level by launching a Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich.
Fast-forward five years into the future, and both restaurant chains are going head-to-head in $5 Meal Deals.
McDonald's is still looking to outdo Popeyes in the chicken category and is currently working on three C-suite roles to analyze menu items in three categories: beef, chicken, and beverages and desert.
While the two are competing, McDonald's and Popeyes have one thing in common: low first quarter sales this year.
Popeyes' same-store sales dropped 4 percent, while McDonald's US sales fell by 3.6 percent.
The restaurant chains have not let slipping sales drag them down and, like other fast food brands, are continuing to fight for top dollar.

Kanye West's wife Bianca Censori shocks again as she pulls dangerous move behind wheel of Porsche

Kanye West 's wife Bianca Censori has pulled yet another eye-catching stunt certain to leave the public in a state of astonishment. Ever since they secretly tied the knot in 2022, Bianca has consistently shocked fans with the flesh-flashing ensembles her husband styles for her. Now, however, her conduct behind the wheel of her gleaming Porsche convertible may be the cause of further comment from observers. Bianca, 30, was spotted staring open-mouthed at her phone while she was driving the jet-black vehicle through Beverly Hills this week. She appeared to be flouting the California Wireless Communications Device Law, which prohibits using a handheld cellphone while operating a motor vehicle. Bianca's sighting comes after Kanye experienced his own bout of car trouble, as a photographer snapped images of the rapper's custom Maybach being towed away from the Château Marmont on Tuesday. New images obtained by Daily Mail show the luxury car owned by the 48-year-old Runaway rapper being put on the back of a tow truck and hauled away from the hotel. The venue – where Saturday Night Live legend John Belushi tragically overdosed in 1982 - remains a favorite haunt of Hollywood celebrities, but parking remains limited. The Bully artist was spotted with partner Bianca Censori earlier Tuesday in Los Angeles, after traveling to New York City earlier this month to attend the trial of Sean ' Diddy ' Combs, who he has professed support for publicly on multiple occasions. Daily Mail has reached out to West's rep Milo Yiannopoulos and the tow company listed on the side of the truck for further comment on the item involving the vehicle. West has remained in the crosshairs of controversy for much of the year amid a torrent of tweets propagating antisemitism, though he renounced those beliefs in a tweet last month. 'I am done with antisemitism,' he said in a May 22 tweet that garnered 167,000 likes from the influential artist's network of more than 33.2 million followers. The stance came in stark contrast to Ye's controversial one four months earlier: He posted multiple images swastikas, and plastering them on a number of clothing items he intended to sell. On February 11, the shop on West's Yeezy Website - which he advertised with an expensive ad in the Super Bowl - was taken offline by Shopify after he was selling a white shirt with a black swastika in the center. West spoke more about the controversy in a series of tweets February 20 - promising to wear the swastika shirt onstage at the 2026 Super Bowl. 'Next year I'm performing at the superbowl wearing my wittle T shirt,' he said. 'People with money bought my wittle t shirt.' He added that Shopify 'gave [him his] account back' after taking down his store after controversy erupted over the shirts, but that he was 'not going to use it.' The Anti-Defamation League said in a post on X/Twitter February 10: 'As if we needed further proof of Kanye's antisemitism, he chose to put a single item for sale on his website – a t-shirt emblazoned with a swastika. 'If that wasn't enough, the t-shirt is labeled on Kanye's website as "HH-01,"which is code for "Heil Hitler." 'Kanye was tweeting vile antisemitism nonstop since last week. There's no excuse for this kind of behavior.' The organization added, 'Even worse, Kanye advertised his website during the Super Bowl, amplifying it beyond his already massive social media audience.' Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor, the founder and executive director of CyberWell, an online anti-Semitism watchdog group, told February 11 that the organization made efforts to go over West's head and have the page removed. 'CyberWell reached out Shopify's compliance and safety teams to alert them to flagrant abuse of Shopfiy's services by in violation of the terms of use,' Cohen Montemayor said. Podcaster Van Lathan, who famously clashed with West in a heated discussion in the TMZ newsroom in May of 2018, was critical of the rapper's latest series of tweets in a post on the platform February 20, calling him 'the slow kid in the Black community's class.' 'I'm glad you're rich,' Lathan wrote. 'It seems to be the only thing you care about. Money is dope you can do a lot of stuff with it. Sincerely. We need it, as a community. 'One thing that's more valuable than money is people. I'm sure you'd agree no dollar amount can measure North's laugh, I'm sure you'd go broke to bring your mother back. I would for my dad, who I lost in '21.' Lathan told West he was 'trapped in an infant's bubble, where [he] can be reckless and careless and people excuse it because of affection. 'We realize this, and try to ignore you, until the baby picks up something sharp like Nazism, domestic abuse, etc. then we gotta child proof things until you stop crying.' Lathan, who cohosts the podcast Higher Learning with Rachel Lindsay, continued, 'You're right about one thing, I am a slave to capitalism. We all are. Gotta work. 'But No one is more of a slave than the man who puts money over dignity. No one. So I'll be a slave, and you be what you are, which is the slow kid in the Black community's class. Keep eating boogers Kanye.'

Hollywood star transforms into tragic young Anthony Bourdain in first look at chilling biopic

A Hollywood star transformed into Anthony Bourdain while filming scenes for the upcoming biopic Tony earlier this week in Massachusetts. The Holdovers star Dominic Sessa, 22, could be seen stepping into the shoes of a younger version of the late celebrity chef while on the set of the A24 project in Provincetown on Thursday. Bourdain was known for starring in shows including the Travel Channel's No Reservations and CNN 's Parts Unknown before his tragic death by suicide in 2018 at the age of 61. Sessa wore a pair of black flared trousers and a red button up which was layered with a black leather jacket, which fit the '70s time period. The budding actor also sported brown curly hair as he shot scenes on a ferry. Dominic was seen holding a conversation with another person while leaning against a railing as the ferry slowly moved along the water. Dominic Sessa, 22, could be seen stepping into the shoes of a younger version of the late celebrity chef Bourdain (pictured in his youth) while on set of the A24 project in Provincetown on Thursday While the official synopsis has remained under wraps, the biopic is slated to follow Bourdain's summer in 1976 in Provincetown, where he had his first introduction to the restaurant industry. Back in April, it was revealed that Antonio Banderas has also joined the cast, although his role is not yet known. The movie will be directed by Matt Johnson, with a screenplay by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe. Sessa began his film career by portraying teenager Angus Tully in The Holdovers (2023) alongside Paul Giamatti and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. The movie was a critical success, and Dominic's performance was singled out for recognition. He was honored with Best Young Performer at the Critics' Choice Awards last year, as well as Best Breakthrough Performance at the Independent Spirit Awards. The actor also recently took on a role in Tow (2025) alongside Rose Byrne, Ariana DeBose, Demi Lovato and Octavia Spencer. Dominic will appear in the Christmas comedy film Oh. What. Fun (2025) and Now You See Me: Now You Don't (2025). Sessa wore a pair of black flared trousers and a red button up which was layered with a black leather jacket, fitting the '70s time period. In an interview with Boston Magazine in 2017, the TV personality reflected on his time in the seaside town. 'It's a very emotional place for me. I came of age there in the early '70s in a very magical, golden, naïve time that I don't think we'll see the likes of again.' He continued, 'And I will say being in Provincetown when I was 17… it was predominantly gay, as it still is. It was a time in history of boundless optimism when we really thought anything was possible. 'I think of the people I lived with and worked with and who befriended me then… whatever value system I learned then informed what came later.' Bourdain further reflected, 'That's where it all started for me. Those were the kitchens that formed my expectations. I thought it was going to be like that forever.' And while talking to The Guardian that same year, the author talked about his first job as a dishwasher in the Massachusetts town. 'I only became happy — in fact, intensely satisfied — as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Provincetown in Cape Cod, my first job.' The late star added that he had been 'a shy, goofy, awkward teenager. But in this blue collar, factory-like environment, there was no blurred line, no grey area, no philosophical question to fret over. 'Dishes had to go in the washer and come out taintless and doing this swiftly and competently meant I was acknowledged as a human being by colleagues I wanted to be like. The day they promoted me to dunking fries I was overjoyed.' Anthony had also been candid about his past drug use during his youth, and he later quit heroin in the '80s. 'I was an unhappy soul, with a huge heroin and then crack problem,' the chef had told The Guardian. 'I hurt, disappointed and offended many, many, many people and I regret a lot. It's a shame I have to live with,' he admitted. He later dropped out of university and graduated for the Culinary Institute of America in 1978. The star notably worked as a chef in restaurants in New York City throughout the '80s and '90s. He had also been the executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles beginning in 1998. Anthony penned a number of books during his career, including as Kitchen Confidential: Adventures In The Culinary Underbelly (2000), which became a New York Times bestseller. The chef had also written articles for publications such as The New Yorker — which published a popular excerpt of Kitchen Confidential before its publication — The Los Angeles Times, Esquire and The Independent. He gained wider recognition due to his television appearances after hosting shows including Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (2005–2012) on the Travel Channel. The digital series Explore Parts Unknown (2017) garnered the star an Emmy win for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction Or Reality Series. Bourdain tragically died by suicide in France at the age of 61 while filming Parts Unknown.

Sam Smith puts on a quirky display in purple shorts and loafers as they enjoy a solo summer stroll through the streets of New York

Sam Smith put on a quirky display in purple shorts and loafers as they enjoyed a solo summer stroll through the streets of New York on Friday. The singer, 32, showcased their unique sense of style as they stepped out in sport shorts and a black vest top. They paired their relaxed look with black leather slip on flats and black socks as they seemed to enjoy some music during their walk. To accessorise the performer kept a low profile in a pair of black tinted sunglasses which they paired with a cap worn backwards and their expertly groomed moustache. Earlier this year Sam and singer Kesha supported their fashion designer boyfriend, Christian Cowan as he debuted his fall/winter 2025 collection at NYFW. They have been dating since 2022 after meeting when Christian collaborated with Sam on the costumes for their music video, I'm Not Here to Make Friends. Christian, whose clientele includes A-list stars Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and Heidi Klum, confirmed his romance with Sam with a kiss in January 2023 as the two walked together arm-in-arm in New York. It marks Sam's first public relationship since their split from 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn, 30, and after they came out as non-binary in 2019. In 2019, Sam revealed that they identify as non-binary and asked to be addressed by the pronouns they/them instead of he/him. Sam wrote on Instagram at the time: 'After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I've decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.' Speaking about their gender, Sam added: 'I'm not male or female, I think I flow somewhere in between. It's all on the spectrum.' The singer, known for hits Dancing With a Stranger, Too Good At Goodbyes and 2015 Bond track Writing's on the Wall, also said they are open to dating whomever they fall in love with. 'I generally have never really thought about people, any human beings, in rigid terms,' they shared. 'I've grown up in a family where the gender power balance and all these things were completely shifted. 'My mum worked, my dad was a househusband. 'My sisters are incredibly strong women.' As well as their romance with Brandon Flynn, Sam also dated Jonathan Zeizel and thanked the model for 'breaking their heart' because it led to four Grammy wins. Sam penned the track Stay With Me following their split and later vowed never to 'fall in love again with someone who doesn't love me back'.
