to construct subways in places such as Sanjeevi Nagar to decongest road traffic. He also urged officials to set up toilets for autorickshaw drivers near the railway station.On Saturday, the MP visited a few places in Trichy where traffic is congested due to level crossings.
He studied the feasibility of construction of limited user subways (LUS) as road over bridges (RoB) are less practical there.Later, he met Trichy divisional railway manager M S Anbalagan and submitted a petition for the same and a toilet for autorickshaw drivers near the station. The official agreed to consider the petition, said the MP. Earlier, autorickshaw drivers submitted a petition to Durai Vaiko demanding a toilet near the station.

Elderly YSRCP Worker Run Over by Jagan Reddy's Car During Rally

New Delhi: An elderly man was run over by the convoy of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during a rally near Eturukur village on the outskirts of Guntur city last week. The incident came to light on Sunday after several videos surfaced on social media, showing that it was Reddy's car that crushed 65-year-old Cheeli Singaiah, a YSR Congress Party worker, to death. According to the Times of India, the rally carried on with people unaware that Singaiah had been crushed under Reddy's vehicle. Jagan was enroute from Rentapalla village in the Sattenapalli constituency to console the family of a party worker who had died by suicide last year. A massive crowd was following the convoy when the incident took place. According to reports, Singaiah had approached the vehicle to shower flowers on Reddy. As the police struggled to manage the crowd, Singaiah was reportedly pushed down in the chaos. While those near the elderly activist raised alarm on realising what had happened, Reddy's security personnel and driver did not stop the vehicle. Singaiah was later rushed to the hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. According to the Times of India, YSRCP leaders have given a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as ex gratia from the party to Singaiah's family.

"Will Never Be Restored": Amit Shah On Indus Waters Treaty With Pakistan

New Delhi: India will never restore the Indus Waters Treaty with Islamabad, and the water flowing to Pakistan will be diverted for internal use, Home Minister Amit Shah said in an interview with the Times of India on Saturday. India put into "abeyance" its participation in the 1960 treaty, which governs the usage of the Indus river system, after 26 civilians in Kashmir were killed in an act of terror. The treaty had guaranteed water access for 80% of Pakistan's farms through three rivers originating in India. Pakistan has denied involvement in the incident, but the accord remains dormant despite a ceasefire agreed upon by the two nuclear-armed neighbours last month following their worst fighting in decades. "No, it will never be restored," Mr Shah said. "We will take water that was flowing to Pakistan to Rajasthan by constructing a canal. Pakistan will be starved of water that it has been getting unjustifiably," Mr Shah said. The latest comments from Mr Shah have dimmed Islamabad's hopes for negotiations on the treaty in the near term. Last month, Reuters reported that India plans to dramatically increase the water it draws from a major river that feeds Pakistani farms downstream, as part of retaliatory action. Pakistan's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comments. But it has said in the past that the treaty has no provision for one side to unilaterally pull back and that any blocking of river water flowing to Pakistan will be considered "an act of war". Islamabad is also exploring a legal challenge to India's decision to hold the treaty in abeyance under international law.
