Cricket is my passion: Piyush

Kanpur: Cricket is my passion, and I enjoyed it in the ground and now in the bowl behind the mike," said Piyush Chawla , an international cricketer and a UP lad. In a brief meeting with TOI, Chawla, who had retired from cricket on June 6 last, clearly said cricket is his passion but coaching was not in his mind as he had no interest in it. Piyush made his debut in international test cricket on March 9, 2006. Though he had played just three tests, he was the member of two World Cup winning teams. In the IPL, he is one of the most successful bowlers with 192 wickets. Asked why, despite coaching being popular among former cricketers, he prefers not to coach, Chawla explained that coaching requires a lot of time, or you may say it is a full-time job and it also requires complete dedication and analysis of each player. When he cannot give full time then it would be injustice and he was not interested in just making money. However, if any player has a problem in his game and style then he would be available for him for correction. He would spend two three days with him to correct him. When questioned about his sudden retirement, Chawla said, "Nothing. I had played enough cricket and thought to say goodbye to active cricket for the last five months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo On the night of June 5, my mind and heart said "announce retirement and on June 6 morning I sent a mail to BCCI GCA about my decision and that was all." Regarding his future plans, Chawla said, "At present I am enjoying the delivery of Aankho Dekha hall from the ground (cricket commentary) with full devotion and passion and listeners are liking that, and their comments encourage me. Besides, I will continue playing cricket in the veteran league. I will play only in BCCI cleared leagues because they are official and run for a long period." Reflecting on his international career, where he played his first test in 2006 and last in 2012, Chawla noted that during this period he was the member of four World Cup teams, and two out of them were World Cup champions. They were special achievements.

Matthew Tkachuk played through a torn adductor and hernia to win the Stanley Cup—now faces surgery decision

Photo byWhen the Florida Panthers clinched their second straight Stanley Cup on June 21 with a commanding 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, few realized just how much pain one of their stars had endured to help bring the championship home. Matthew Tkachuk revealed after Game 6 that he had played through a torn adductor and a hernia for the entire 2025 postseason. The injury, which dates back to February, didn't stop him from tallying 23 points across 23 games. Now, as the celebrations cool off, Tkachuk faces an uncertain summer—one that may include surgery. The Panthers star revealed the full extent of his injury after Florida clinched back-to-back championships—his offseason now hinges on a 50-50 call about surgery Matthew Tkachuk first sustained the injury during the Four Nations Face-Off on February 17, when he was representing Team USA in a 3-1 win over Canada. It was the third period of that international showdown when things went wrong. Speaking to reporters after Saturday night's Stanley Cup clincher in Sunrise, Florida, the 27-year-old said, 'I feel good. Definitely way better after a win. Should be all good.' But the road back wasn't as straightforward. Following the injury, Tkachuk missed the final 25 games of the regular season. At the time, the Panthers only publicly described it as a groin issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's A List Of Cheapest Steel Suppliers (See The List) Steel Suppliers | search ads Search Now Undo On March 3, general manager Bill Zito told reporters, 'Matthew's going to be out for an extended period of time. We hope to get him back for the playoffs.' He returned just in time for the postseason, though his minutes were limited early on. In the first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tkachuk was kept under 14 minutes of ice time in three of five games as he worked his way back into form. Despite the physical toll, Tkachuk delivered when it counted most—ending the playoffs with eight goals and 15 assists. His final goal came in the opening period of the championship-clinching Game 6 against the Oilers. Still, his offseason remains clouded with uncertainty. Speaking at the Panthers' post-game media availability on Saturday, Tkachuk shared, ' It's 50-50 right now if I'll need surgery ,' adding that he has more tests scheduled before a final decision is made. The recovery time for adductor surgery typically ranges from six to eight weeks. This year, a few surprising players have entered the conversation. Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, two-way rookie Travis Hunter, and experienced quarterback Baker Mayfield are now being called 'dark horses' for the award. Fans are shocked. How did these three end up in the MVP race? What did they do to earn this spotlight? Their journeys are different, but all three have shown something special that's now hard to ignore. Ja'Marr Chase Travis Hunter and Baker Mayfield listed as MVP dark horses for 2025 On June 17, 2025, and various other sites focused on Ja'Marr Chase, Travis Hunter, and Baker Mayfield as dark horse candidates for the 2025 MVP race. Ja'Marr Chase is a talented wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals who had a solid 2024 season with some monster catches and massive yards even as the team struggled. His current MVP odds are +10000, a pretty uncommon spot for a wide receiver. Travis Hunter, the rookie phenom selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in April 2025 shocked many by being on that list of potential MVP candidates. Travis Hunter, only 21, plays on both sides of the ball — wide receiver and cornerback — something no one has done in the league at this level in recent years. His college career at Colorado ended with several honors, including the 2024 AP Player of the Year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Sportswriter Judy Battista called him 'a rare kind of player who could change MVP voting forever.
