Woman dies, son injured in motorcycle crash near Batu 5 junction

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman died and her son was injured after their motorcycle crashed into a car near the Batu 5 traffic light junction along Jalan Ipoh yesterday.
The 55-year-old woman, who was riding pillion, died at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). Her 20-year-old son sustained minor injuries to his legs and arms.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the incident, which involved three vehicles, was reported at 1.45pm.
"Preliminary investigations showed the motorcycle was heading from Jalan Ipoh towards the Kepong Roundabout when a 35-year-old man suddenly opened the door of his parked Toyota Vios.
"The rider could not avoid it in time and crashed into the door. He fell onto the road, while his mother was thrown under a moving lorry in the right lane," he said in a statement today.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A woman was killed and her son injured after their motorcycle collided with a car door that was suddenly opened near the traffic light junction at Batu 5, Jalan Ipoh, yesterday. In a statement, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said the impact of the collision caused the 20-year-old motorcyclist to fall onto the road, while his mother, who was riding pillion, was thrown under a lorry in the right lane. The 55-year-old woman died while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Her son sustained minor injuries to his legs and hands. Zamzuri said initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred at around 12.20pm when the motorcyclist and his mother were travelling from Jalan Ipoh towards the Kepong roundabout. As they reached the location, the 35-year-old driver of a Toyota Vios, who had parked on the left side of the road, suddenly opened his car door. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the open door and crashed into it. His mother was subsequently thrown under the passing lorry in the adjacent lane. The lorry driver was uninjured. Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
