KUALA LUMPUR: A woman died and her son was injured after their motorcycle crashed into a car near the Batu 5 traffic light junction along Jalan Ipoh yesterday. The 55-year-old woman, who was riding pillion, died at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). Her 20-year-old son sustained minor injuries to his legs and arms. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the incident, which involved three vehicles, was reported at 1.45pm. "Preliminary investigations showed the motorcycle was heading from Jalan Ipoh towards the Kepong Roundabout when a 35-year-old man suddenly opened the door of his parked Toyota Vios. "The rider could not avoid it in time and crashed into the door. He fell onto the road, while his mother was thrown under a moving lorry in the right lane," he said in a statement today.

KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner whose car struck a pedestrian, causing the victim to fall into a river and drown along Jalan Ipoh towards Bulatan Kepong last Friday, was charged in court today. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the man was brought to the Traffic Court in Jalan Duta to face a charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. "The instruction was issued after the investigation paper was referred to the deputy public prosecutor at 8am today," he said in a statement. "The deputy public prosecutor directed that the individual be charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. "He was taken to the Jalan Duta Traffic Court this morning," he added. Earlier, it was reported that a pedestrian drowned after being knocked into the river by a car that had lost control. The incident, which occurred at 11.45am, involved a Nissan Sylphy driven by the 39-year-old foreign man heading from the People's Housing Project (PPR) Batu Muda. Mohd Zamzuri was reported as saying that preliminary investigations showed a Toyota Camry, driven by a 43-year-old Vietnamese woman from Batu Kentomen, was also involved in the crash.
