Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was among six players nominated for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Men's Player of the Year award on Friday.
The 33-year-old played a key role in Liverpool's Premier League title triumph last season with 29 goals and 18 assists.
The Egyptian star was voted Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association – securing almost 90 percent of the votes, marking the biggest winning margin this century – and is the firm favourite to land the PFA prize.
Salah is joined on the shortlist by Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal's Declan Rice, Cole Palmer of Chelsea, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2023-24, was a surprise choice for the list given his struggles for Chelsea last season.
Rice starred in midfield for Arsenal, hitting a career-high nine goals while adding 10 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions.
Sweden striker Isak scored 23 goals for Newcastle as they qualified for the Champions League and ended a 56-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup.
Fernandes was one of United's few bright spots in the club's worst top-flight campaign since 1973-74, with eight league goals and 10 assists.
This year's awards ceremony will be held in Manchester on August 19. (AFP)

The report said the team's owners, the Buss family, would sell their controlling interest to billionaire Mark Walter, who already owns a minority stake in the franchise. While Jeanie Buss would continue as Lakers governor, the deal ends the Buss family's 46-year reign over the NBA giants. Walter is the chief executive of holding company TWG Global which has built an impressive portfolio of professional sports teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Sparks. He is also part of the ownership group of English Premier League side Chelsea. TWG also owns the Billie Jean King Cup tennis tournament and the Cadillac Formula One team. While further specifics of the deal were not disclosed, Lakers legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson – a business partner of Walter – was among the first to react to news of the agreement. "Laker fans should be ecstatic," Johnson wrote on X. "A few things I can tell you about Mark – he is driven by winning, excellence, and doing everything the right way," he added. "And he will put in the resources needed to win! I can understand why Jeanie sold the team to Mark Walter because they are just alike." Johnson cited Walter's ownership of the Dodgers baseball team as a reason for optimism. The Dodgers have won the World Series twice since Walter's ownership group took over the club, and in recent years have adopted an aggressive recruitment strategy that has seen them sign some of the sport's best talent, including Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani. Walter has been a minority owner of the Lakers since 2021 when he bought a share in a deal which also gave him first refusal to purchase the club should the Buss family ever decide to sell. The sale of the club smashes the previous highest figure paid for a US sports team, the US$6.1 billion paid for the Boston Celtics earlier this year. The friendly against Serie A's AC Milan at Kai Tak Stadium on July 26 will be the English club's fourth visit to Hong Kong, following their last appearance in 2017 for the Premier League Asia Trophy. Hyypiä, who is the club's ambassador, told RTHK on Wednesday that he is truly touched by Hong Kong's passion for football, adding that he wants to express his heartfelt thanks to Liverpool fans for their support. "For the club, it's very important that we have these tours around the world... many fans come from far away, or they live far away from Liverpool," he told RTHK. "In Asia, you have to wake up at night to see games. And many people are waking up. So to bring the club a little bit closer to these fans is very important. And that's why it's very important that we come to Asia to play and to be closer to our fans." The Finn also dismissed suggestions that the only reason the Reds were recently crowned Premier League champions was luck. "I heard something that this season Liverpool was lucky, that other teams are not performing as they should perform, but I don't think that," the former centre-back said. "I think Liverpool were just the most consistent team during the season and we deserved to win the league.
